Some top work you have done on the body prep!!!

Cheers bazda, one could say the same thing (plus a lot more nice things) for your engine/suspension setups! :y:

Cursing the tax return didnt cover both rego & coilovers. :( Today I dream, one day I will order, in the meantime I'll finish the bodywork.

The Marin looks sweet Luke. Although she is a bit of a contradiction. Dual squish with flat bars I'm thinking cool, then I see the wheel and tire package and I'm more now thinking SPANDEX!!!!

Keep the nobby beast and come for a downhill with the cool kids.lol

Stu.

Cheers Stu, I think of it as the hybrid offspring of a cross-country bike & road racers love affair. The 550lb spring in the rear has made way for a 1200lb item, I'm about 75kgs dripping wet so it's pretty much a hardtail now. I found a guy who has a set of 1998 (keeping it period correct  ) Rockshox Indy XC's that he used once & stashed in a garage for 12 years, should work well with a firmer spring rebuild kit I also spotted for those exact shocks. Once he gets off his @r$e & posts them I can yank the shagged Indy S's currently there off! Going for road use only, tried a dirt trail on it, found a soft patch & nearly ended up face first into said trail. :)

Okay, I admit to owning ONE spandex item...a pair of padded shorts that are ALWAYS worn underneath normal clothes. They're needed for rides longer than 15 minutes or so. :D I'd downhill the knobbly tyred thing, but I don't want to die just yet. I crashed into the back of a car on flat ground...you know the horseshoe shaped brakes that require so much effort to barely be able to lock a wheel? They suck.

No worries mate, those decals are the originals. A small history lesson, at the lauch of the ae82, the sedan and seca were launched in May 85' by september the Hatch was the last. While the Hatch and Seca both had a lifting tail gate and folding rear seats, they puerly named it Hatch just to differentiate. From what I can gather though, the Hatch emphasis was on the early release cars as mine was built in Oct 85. Since 2004 I have only seen 3 or 4 with that livery.

I like automtive history! :) Apparently the AE82 was the first compact production car with fold flat seats, gotta get me a scanner so I can post some pics of a book I have on the concept/design process of the AE82. Doesn't cover the hatch though. :(

The annoying thing is that it stays a dream for such a long time. :(

Rego for Blue Thing, the daily hack. Sorry for the panic moment. :laff:

Edit: Methinks you'd win the bike race, damn I'm unfit!

While that was curing, around to the passenger side, sand the bog that was already there, dust, wash & primer. Above rear door.

I was wondering again if you were going to turn your baby into a track car, then it occured to me that maybe was the worest possible idea ever, and if you don't know why ask Eric Bana :laff:

Can I ask, with the spray putter, would that work ok on fibre-glass?

Didnt he crash his....oh yeah... :blinks: I did have hopes for this to be a full time track car, then it occured to me that I'm not in the well-financed position to do so. Also, wouldn't be happy if some bastard crashed into me, I can handle crashing it myself but if someone else did, believe me there'd be blood! :laff: So club racer/weekender it is, just the casual, fun stuff. Better to push car to it's limits & find some kitty litter rather than a pedestrian/tree. :D

The spray putty SHOULD work okay on fibreglass, it says not to use on bare metal, apply a suitable primer first so out of caution I'd prime the fibreglass first then apply the spray putty. Just to be on the safe side. :)

Edit: Spray putty also needs to be primed before you can topcoat it.

So true about racer/weekender - you can really enjoy it then, is there anyone who does tarmac rallies in mountain areas that are time trails?

When you mentioned pedestrian/tree, it reminded me of a smash I saw up the road from work, when a car lost control and hit a tree on the sidewalk / intersection in the middle of the CBD in peak hour, if she didn't hit the tree she would of killed atleast a couple of people! Very lucky girl.

Thanks for tips on spray putty, its for my r/c racing yacht. :)

Its better to have it as a trackable daily, you can enjoy the thing every day.. just as long as you keep it off the streets (most the time :ninja: ) Only one problem with this car though.... its gonna be too clean to race! lol :P

Just noticed the spray putty now, nice! i think I'm gonna use it on my wheel well :)

I haven't checked this out properly yet, as, well, the car's not quite there yet. I joined the Toyota Car Club a while back, I'd better bug them for info soon.

Geezus... :o Everyone was lucky that tree was there!

Build thread for RC yacht! :P

That's where I'm torn, I think it's okay to trackday her (after a few car shows, why not) but not to daily. She's officially 25 years old now so can qualify for Club Rego, just gotta put her back together first lol.

Geez...it's only been WEEKS since I touched this bit, the drivers front jack point/sill. Sanded once.

post-5437-0-27776000-1319982760_thumb.jpg

Rear drivers jack point metalmend sanded.

The rear was bogged then received the same treatment.

Also, I test fitted the sideskirts today...

... Most of this gets hidden! :lolcry: Ahh well, at least the base underneath will be okay. There's a large-ish crack in one I hadn't noticed earlier, will be busting open my box of glass offcuts once I can find the damn thing! Moving house for the fail!

On the upside, this part I hadn't been looking forward to, I'll see what my shoulders, back & hips have to say about all that time on the concrete, even with padding. :(
