Looking pretty good mate. My only worry is that the bogged seams in the engine bay will crack up when the car flexes, during normal driving.

Good to see you have started priming baremetal once you have stripped it. If you can work away bit by bit and treat the strippped metal with deoxydene and etch primer as you go, it is less likely to rust away on you while you are working on other areas. This also saves you rust converting over bog (which is not best practice).

Keep going mate, I have found that a planned and systematic approach really helps you keep track of where you are at on the project.

Stu, was good having a chat with you yesterday seeing the blue thing.

The build is going great, as Doogs and others have said do things in small

portions so you can ensure its been done properly the first time!

Once its done you'll attract the right attention, as this ad shows.

Edit: Now I know why you that spare wheel well so perfect!

The engine bay seams have crossed my mind a few times, despite any extra bracing I can do... :blinks: I have the same concerns, contemplating stripping it back & using proper seam sealer :bash: I just don't know to be honest :( Etch primer needed only for non-ferrous metals?

Planned & systematic was the idea  That went out the window :laff: when I went from living in a nice sized house with a big backyard with carport, 3m x 6m brick garage & a 9m x 7.5m shed with loft :D...

...to a shoebox house with a 3m x 6m garage & a big backyard with no shelter :( It's been fun just trying to find places to stash stuff & keep it safe. I admit it isn't the best way to go about things, but when the shell is not where I live & I have parts & pieces in 4 different postcodes, I do the best I can :y: I realise some people have it worse than I do, I feel for them!

:lolcry: @ Blue Thing. Man , I so should've at least washed it first! :P It is the daily, so it gets serviced...& anything that breaks gets replaced  The dents & other imperfections can stay, they add 'character' I think :no2:

I had hoped to be able to do more work at previously mentioned property (everything there & room to move plentiful but...*slap* well I didnt & have to deal with it :)

OMFG....:lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry:

I had never seen that clip until then, that's GOLD! With a stripped interior you could almost fit that many people in it...performance would be hampered somewhat, but then again with all those girls there's a good reason to add a turbo cuz!!!

:lmao:

Seriously though, great to meet you guys & put some faces to forum names. :paperbag: :scarymovie: :elvis: :pimp:

Lol that ad is priceless!

Yep etch is good for ferrous metals and steel is one if them (steel is iron + carbon). Etch primer really bites into the surface well and has good anti-corrosive properties. Even though acrylic etch won't completely seal the surface, it still helps keep rust at bay whilst you are working elsehwere. You will only really have a problem if the panel is actually getting rained on. It should slow down rust due to moisture in the wet winter air though.

I've been using a cold-gal primer first over the welds I've done & the bronze-soldered joins on the body/panels (for instance, roof to A-pillar join or the window frame to the main body of the doors) have had a hit of epoxy etch primer first then the 2-pack primer :) I'll admit the wheel well is just pressure pack atm as my compressor's being a $h1t....

:abuse:

But once it's sorted out the 2-pack's going on! Same stuff, just pressure pack rather than spray gun.

Since my friends garage isnt exactly 100% weather proof, she lives underneath a tarp as well to keep the rain & drips off, so thankfully she stays dry. ;) Sadly I can't do anything about the moisture in the air :bash: but I'm hoping the primer will keep the cancer at bay until topcoat? Which is going to be done in a proper spray booth by the by.

Went down to the shed for a reccy run, have been so focused on the friggin wheel well that now it's done, I was kinda lost as to where to go next  ;)

Made a decision, roof & hatch area are up for a grind, rust convert, grind again, wash & prime now that that I've solved the compressor problem :D

Tightened all the bolts/nuts/screws, changed the oil, cleaned the air filters, drained the water from the tank, buggered off the old line from tank setup (which was a few bits of air line, hose clamps & fittings - i.e dodgy) & knocked up my own. It now has a shutoff valve at the tank, copper hard line to an oil/water & air separator with another copper hard line to the regulator with built-in water/air separator. I also have another filter that plugs in after the regulator. Sounded much healthier when I fired her up & the lines had no leaks at maximum operating pressure (120psi)

The tank's rated to 150psi but seeing as she's an ol' girl I acquired as 'surplus' for free & does the job nicely as is, why thrash her? :no2:

New setup.

Decided to run a twin-line setup for $h1ts & giggles. don't really need it, but handy to have I guess :) The other filter plugs in here then the air line plugs into it.

In some shots it will look like there's still rust there...I'm going with it being a trick of the light, believe me, there is NO rust there anymore :no2: :D

Still avoiding the roof :P

Got to work on the front drivers jack-up point where the spanner before me had bent the seam & pushed the bottom of the sill upwards :( It's jacking a car up, it's not rocket science FFS!

No access from above to push it back down & wanting to avoid putting a screw into the dent to pull it out (leaving a hole to fill...I think I've filled enough holes in this car  ) I got creative  An 8mm drill bit, some welding rod & an old extension bar, insert drill bit, pull on extension bar (read: lift body off ground) & feel metal pull down. Bend wire & extract drill bit. :)

post-5437-0-08951600-1309507622_thumb.jpg

Repeat several times... I can't get the vertical section (with the notches) to move back down, but it's better than what it was I guess. I realise bogging it will make it look better but will end in FAIL the second I put a jack on it :blinks: Thinking MetalMend as it's a damn sight tougher than regular bog, then some carbon plate either glued or screwed (or both) over the top after topcoat to take the load... Suggestions? Yes it's technically underneath the car, but I don't have sideskirts to hide it :P

A quick strip & rust converter hit. The primer that was on it was simply overspray

Ya know how AE82's are notorious for rust at the rear of the wheelarches? This little black bit was all that I had...on this side :laff:

After another hit with the wire brushes & a wash, we have primer.
