Corey_wwv Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) Hi Was drivin home in my ke30, from trade school and the box got real noisy anyway got home and checked it turns out i have no oil :S So i went to fill it up but the dolt in the side to fill it is completly striped on the out side i tryed vice grips monkey wrench hammer and a screw driver and baching a smaller ring spanner on now of which helped me :( So i m goin to fill it by removing the selector which leads me to my question how much oil do i put in as the filler whole wont simply over flow?? its a T50 (am pretty sure as it is a five speed) thanks Corey. Evan G Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 if you got the room try smacking the plug with a hammer a couple of times. if this fails smash a socket/spanner on it and then just undo it (had the same problem with my gb fill plug) Quote

Corey_wwv Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 i have already tried it just came off and the rest of my spanners are at my lazy mates house he borrowed them but still hasnt used them so i havnt got them back yet haha Quote
RedKE30 Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Is the box behind a 3k or 4k motor? Being a KE30 it will most likely be a K50. If you have an owners manual have a quick look in there, it might just tell you how much oil it takes. Quote
parrot Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) The different type of T50 have differing capacities. You need to let us know what type you have. Edit: and you may want to think about where it has all gone Edited March 22, 2011 by parrot Quote
Corey_wwv Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 sorry I'm not sure i just got the box out of another rolla (ke55) and its behind a 4k how do i tell what it is Quote
BReNt Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) How do you know there's no oil in it if you can't get the plug undone? tried a punch? Wikipedia/FAQ says: K40 - 1.7L K50 - 2.45L T40 & T50 - 1.5L Penrite says 1.7 or 2.5 Litres Edited March 22, 2011 by BReNt Quote
towe001 Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Interesting. If you manage to get the filler plug out, what are you going to do with putting it back in ?? I'd leave it where it is till another one is found and do what Parrot said and figure out where the oil went... No good getting the bolt out, refilling the g'box and not being able to get the stuffed plug back in and when you have, finding out the oil has drained out cause of a stuffed seal at the back of the box. Quote
Corey_wwv Posted March 22, 2011 Author Report Posted March 22, 2011 yeah i recon it is the rear seal as it was oily and it looks like the oil has sprayed around underneat via the tail shaft and i no it is empty as i had it jacked up and removed the speedo gear and no oil came out might be time to put the good old 4 speed back in Quote
parrot Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Not familiar with K boxes, but the speedo gear is usually in the extension housing? If so, that would not be a reliable indicator for an empty gearbox Quote
Corey_wwv Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 new problem i filled it up but it went straigh through and is coming out from a rubber grommet thing at the front of the bottom of the box in the plate you unbolt at the bottom to change the filter or whatever Quote
jaygore Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Sorry to hijack this thread... But going to do an oil change on my gearbox.. However I have never attempted one of these. I have a k50, I'm guessing there is a special way to fill it up? as its underneath the car? if someone is able to put a step to step guide that would be much appreciated. Quote
ke70dave Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) grab a gregories manual for your car. mr gregory has already done a step by step for you :y: Edited March 25, 2011 by ke70dave Quote
jaygore Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 OK I have no idea what a gregories manual is, But i just researched it, and I can put the oil in through my shifter... is this correct? Quote
