t18drifts Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) hay guys been doing great amounts of thinking of were to go with forced induction on my 3tc how to do it whats the simplest cheapest way ect Edited May 27, 2011 by t18drifts Quote
19914afc Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 you probably can't find much or any info because they have already been proven to make plenty of power with a turbo setup. Otherwise will need to make a bracket for the charger, custom intake piping, setup the carby for it and jet and tune it or buy efi stuff, probably cheaper to go turbo?? or just go 4agze. Quote
t18drifts Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 gahhhh one minute turbo is harder then super charger is easyer ect ect sigh Quote
snot35 Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Putting a turbo or supercharger on an engine not already fitted with one is probably going to be the same amount of work irregardless. You're best bet is to look at some of the build threads for people who have 'charged' their K motors. The building of brackets, plumbing, setup of carb/efi etc is all going to be pretty similar to what you would need to do with a 3T. Either way, it's a reasonable size job if you're reasonably mechanically inclined. If you're not then do a lot of research first and maybe think about finding someone that can help. Quote
ninja-philbo Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 theres a 3t supercharged kicking round here ive sceen it Quote
t18drifts Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 yeah i saw a thread Yeah I'm a first year diesel mech Not mechanicly retarded But yeah from what i have seen there isnt realy much info for 3t iam trying to work out what would be more easy to do And what will be the more robust/stronger setup super or turbo not power wise strength though Quote
ke70dave Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 what you are talking about is custom conversion, 3ts never came out with turbo or supercharger, so the reliability and success of the work will come down to the person who is doing the work, ie you. The blokes in Puerto Rico are getting like 8sec 1/4 mile times on turbo 3tc's.....they must do good workmanship. i think t18drifts you need to broaden your researching, forget about the 3tc for a good 2 weeks worth of research, and figure out what is generally required for turbo/supercharger conversions on an n/a engine.....then when you have a good understanding on how it works, refine your research to 3tc related stuff. a bit of a guide: turbo: -what are you going to do with intake manifold or intake manifold -are you going to run carby or convert to EFI -if carby suck through or blow throgh -if efi, can you get efi bits for the 3t? is there parts available. who is going to tune it. what ecu will you use? -fuel system? what are going to to? electric pump under the car? what about fuel surge? surge tank? intank lift pump? -are you going to run an intercooler? where are the pipes going to run? can you fit intercoler in? who is going to make the pipes? supercharger: -does the sc14 physcially fit in your engine bay? -will you have to sacrafice or move your aircon/alternator? -efi or carby? what carby? can you tune the carby? can you repair the carby if required? are there replacement jets available for the carby? -what are you going to run the pulley off? do you need a custom pulley/belt? do you have the correct ratio of the pulleys in order to get the boost you want? Is your engine in good enough condition to handle a bit of boost? does it smoke? is it going to require a rebuild? and the biggest one, is it going to be legal to drive on the street once it is done? what supporting mods are you going to be rquired for it to be legal? (brakes etc) i suspect you are on the p's still, thus no forced induction mods for you! Quote
t18drifts Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 nah bro I'm perth can do as i wish But yes thats what i needed to no and stuff to look at If there is anything else out there that is important let mo know then :D Quote
t18drifts Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) hay i did some reading just now this is only basic but it is realy helpful http://www.mazdarotary.net/turbo.htm << good read there probs need more help on how to retard/advance ignition and having to upgrade fuel system and what i am likeing the sounds of is suck though what is done with the issue of a bov well allowing the turbo to spool when not under engine revs if that makes sence do you just let it suck on the closed carb throttle could i make say something behind the carb before the turbo linked to the throttle cable thing on the carb that say opens a a bypass valve on a secondary small intake pipe or somthing on the tubing before the turbo after the carb which is opened when you take your foot of the gas would this be ok as it also when it sucks air from the brypas would there be air fuel mixture issues as the carb would be letting less fuel into the cylinders and the turbo pushing a more air rich mixture on decelaration could this be a major issue :hmm: would changing to a bigger down drought webber carb help this setup or would you have to rejet it i also added a diagram of my idea edited diagram . t18drifts Posted May 24, 2011 Author Report Posted May 24, 2011 there is talk about methonal injection cooling ??????? Quote
t18drifts Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 also would 3tgteu intake and turbo mani Bolt on standard 3t Quote
t18drifts Posted May 25, 2011 Author Report Posted May 25, 2011 hmmmmm ok then Got quated 8000 10000 from brd for a custom 3t turbo engine :S i also wonder if my little diagram would work Quote
