There's a screw, with a nut around it, if you have steering play/ slop, wind the screw a bit and tighten the nut and try it again. Will be tighter

You can tighten the box up if it's not screwed. Or upgrade to a ke20 which is beefier and likely easier to find ingood nick.

Has anyone done the ke20 box swap and what's involved

I have a box ready to swap. Trawling the old corollas threads, it looks like its as simple as swapping the pitman arm and drilling the chassis holes out slightly to accept larger bolts.

Oh wicked I get mine this week hopefully . But year couldn't find much about it as I need to run the whole column for engerneers cert

Stweart Ford has done this conversion in his ke15. I found a quote from him on the web

 

"drill out the crush tubes to the larger bolt size in the chassis rail, weld up a mount for the top of the column, in similar way to how

the KE20 does (ie allowing the top of the tube to crush down), and then fit KE10 pitman arm"

 

Sounds easy enough...

Yep. Although drilling out the crush tubes doesn't sit well with me, I haven't looked to see how much meat gets drilled out.

Please,DO NOT drill out the crush tubes unless you are prepared to weld in new ones to suit your new bolt size(not difficult),they are there for a very good reason.

Would b doable. Might need to cut and shut the front mount bracket, and perhaps tweak the control arm rods depending on length. I'm not sur how you feel about cutting up 1200 bucks of gear though.
