yeah i did exact same as you when i blew the gasket years ago, was so annoyed with the gasket i just ripped into it and in about an hour or less i was up to the headbolts, freakin socket didnt fit!

I'm no expert but it looks like a shitty gasket

 

Head looks good but might skim it anyway.

 

 

Local guy is only $80 for a skim. Will clean it up and drop it in tomorrow.

Decide to forego the APR studs. Got some genuine Toyota through Sam Qu and an oil filter too.

 

Sam is doing Toyota genuine filters for $12. I should have bought a half dozen.

 

Bought 10m of heat wrap for the headers too. Now need to sort a better cooling pipe design.

Messed around with the remote thermostat, think I have it sorted so its tucked under the engine mounts, away from the steering uni.

 

 

There was a lot of oil and gunk behind the cam cover so hopefully the new cam/crank seals will sort that.

 

 

Finally, wet sanded the block and the tops of the pistons.

 

 

I compared the two gaskets up close, the old gasket is definitely subpar. There is a lot more to the genuine one.

 

Oh and I tried to easy out the broken engine mount bolt and snapped the easy out in the hole. Looks like its just getting two bolts in that side for now.

 

EDIT: IF anyone can hook a brother up with a knock sensor PM me please!

Sorted, found one local for $20 which is better than the $140 they want for one new.

 

 

Just waiting on head bolts and shes good to go back together.

Is that exhaust heat wrap? If so make sure you wet it when your putting it on, seen so many people stuff it up.
