Chillin Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 If you're loosing traction off the starts maybe look at some wider tread on the rear Quote
brendan Posted April 6, 2012 Author Report Posted April 6, 2012 well the cam is a stage 2 from camtech and the head was sent off to superflow heads wich they matchported everything and match the specs off the cam to suit the head, decked for comp, double valve springs,it was also changed from hydro to solid lifter set up, it was all balanced Quote
brendan Posted April 6, 2012 Author Report Posted April 6, 2012 na no problem with traction ive got 195/75 14s and its not slipping yet ,when i had the motor and box in my 15 it was running the same time thats what i don't understand ?? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 lightened flywheel? What gearbox? Diff? Ratios? Quote
coln72 Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 It wont spin 195's....... My 5k would turn 225/60/13's (usually only a single spinner :( ) Quote
altezzaclub Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 Well, if 1/4mile is the main thing in your life, start specialising in it. Work out which diff ratio you need to get off the line cleanly and still minimise the gear changes. Make sure the final gear you're in is pulling max power just at the end. If the car is going off the road then you can lighten it a lot, right down to where we cut the door hinges into hollow shapes with an Abra file, just leaving the rim to hold on the single-skin gutted door with a plastic window. More power comes from narrowing the rev range, so bigger cam and bigger carbs, and less driveability. When Nissan sponsored us we could have their factory engineer build a motor, and that really flew, so there might be a lot left in the motor that someone can find for you. 17sounds terribly slow, but I'm sure I'd need a clock not a stopwatch if I tried my car! Yeah, get creative. Going light can be cheap, only costing time. As an guide, there was a KE2* in Melbourne that was down to 650kg. don't they say that every 10kg you remove from a car shuld be worth 0.1 sec down the quarter? Or is it 100kg???? I remember a story on an old mag where they took a stock standard 120Y and got its quarter mile times down to 14 or 15 sec without touching the motor. They just started removing weight. All that was left was the floorpan, drivetrain and a seat though..... Quote
towe001 Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Free horsepower you say ? Have a read. Its from the VWVortex forums decades ago. How to get your econobox into the 14's-A must read Damn shame about the forum ditching the pictures. Basically they got a nissan pulsar in its ricer form And removed some weight And removed some more weight 16.3sec @ 84.0mph down to 14.3sec @ 93.2mph Hey, its an option :laff: Quote
coln72 Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 Thats exactly what they did to the 120Y about 16 years ago  It was in Car Australia for those of a more senior age. Quote
towe001 Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 <goes off to dig through a huge pile of car mags> Quote
philbey Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 You'll drop a second off with the same motor in a ke10. There was an article posted up here about a bloke who drag raced his ke10. Like mentioned, you should start looking hard at your power curve and diff ratios and make sure it's matched correctly. If you havent had it dynod then you're wasting your time as well. Definitely dyno it. Quote
