Righto has been a while since I have done an update. I dropped the 4K engine and box just before Christmas so that Bob could add it to his growing collection of bits for his KE project. The thing sat in the shed till last week when I got back into it. Ended up pulling the whole dash and vent system out so that I could run the wiring loom through the back of the fire wall. When I did the pedal box swap I also enlarged the hole from the old clutch cable to run the wiring for the injectors, TPS, MAP and thermo fans.

 

I put the T28 on while I had the engine out as well at a turbo blanket and some new fitting for the inlet and outlet on the compressor. I still have a little more to do to tidy up the wiring loom before it is all mounts then I will just start working my way backwards through the car. I am going to leave the dash out until I know that all is running well.

 

I have a set of Shockworks stuff coming soon I hope which should pretty much see it all sorted. Being slack that I am the next update will probably be when it is finished.

Oh my good lord jesus christ...

:hammer: Probably should have mentioned that I had all this in an AE86 that I have put into storage for a while. It seemed like a waste letting it sit given the money that has gone into it all so I thought I should use it. ZE block, Ross racing pistons, linished ZE rods, ARP bolts, T28, Denso 590cc injectors and E85. With a T25g and 12 psi it made 168rwkw. It should go over 200 with the bigger turbo and some more boost.

Ok got some more time on the car over the long weekend. Radiator mounted properly with the thermo's fitted and wired in. Intercooler bolted back in and the piping done, just need to weld them up. Really all I need to do now is mount the fuel pumps/filter and relays and run the fuel line and it should be pretty much good to go. There will be a few more little jobs but nothing too serious.

 

The new suspension turned up today. Two sets, one for mine and a second set for a mate, there is just under $4k sitting in those boxes. Will be interested to see how it goes but first impression is that it is well put together and presents well. They are 10 way adjustable with base adjust for ride height. Running 6/4.5kg split on the springs which is pretty much what I have at the moment. A nice touch is the ability to adjust the total length of the rear shock to ensure that you have full travel available. I have heard good things regarding the crew from Shockworks so thought that I would give them a try.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ok been driving this around for a couple of weeks so put it back on the dyno this arvo to make sure the tune was still happy with a little more boost and the T28 instead of the T25G. The thing did 168kw on the old tune @ 12-13 psi. Today it did 189kw @15-16psi. We didn't bother playing with the ignition or any more boost as it kind of seems pointless given that I use the thing for track not drift. It had a big boost spike when it was coming onto boost at around 3500rpm which resulted in massive loss of traction even in 3rd. I had the back end step out a couple of times when giving it a boot full at around 80km/h which was not fun so I have toned that right down as well. Boost builds slower now to around 15psi by about 3750 and sits steadyish out to redline.

 

Once I get the in gear boost and traction/launch control sorted I will probably throw in some ID750 injectors and wind up the boost to see how it goes but at the moment it is not bad fun for a 1600.

Thanks for the kind words Ben. It certainly feels good to have it all finished. There is a few more things that I want to do to try and get the levels of refinement up to a higher standard but it is certainly pretty good as a start point.

 

It is funny that you mention the power, to start with it was grin factor every time you put the foot down but after the dyno and playing with the boost control it is just so smooth and linear now that it really doesn't feel that fast.
