If decided to bike carb my 4k because at the end of the day its just a ke70 if I wanted power I would of got a different car with a quick motor not relying on a motor swap. So just asking people who have done it before what do I need? What carbs should I get? Seen r1 used alot I can get a custom manifold made for super cheap. Will my accelerator cable work or will it have to be custom or something? Cheers in advance

There's topic about this within the last two weeks somewhere.

Are you going to run a heat shield between exhaust and carbs? Don't forget your manifold will need ports for the dizzy vac, the charcoal canister, the brake booster and the PCV valve.

Have you taken a walk around a wrecker looking for air boxes?

I haven't done it, but maybe next year if I get some free time.

When I was debating this, CBR600 carbs seemed to be the cheapest. I'd imagine you'd need to do some fab work for linkages. My intention at the time was to get carbs including trumpets so you could either box them, or go with socks initially to save work on getting all that done. Also, you need to give some thought to the fuel pump, bike carbs are designed to run at very low pressure and generally the pump on bikes is different to car pumps. They are usually an interrupter pump that is able to turn off once the appropriate pressure is achieved, where car pumps are constant. I believe you can mess around with return lines to get it to work, but it sounded finicky and just another thing to go wrong. Also consider the rest of the engine. If you're still running stock ports and exhaust then the car is probably going to be noisier post conversion, but not actually quicker.

if you have read of tommy's build it is not as hard as everyone seem to believe. yes custom manifold and depending on what carbs you get custom cable/linkages also ! we used Kawasaki 900 flat slide and they work great ! fairly worked 4k/5k combination and still returning around 36mpg "not bad " anyway good luck with your build.

I couldn't find Tommy's build thread. So at the moment I'm waiting for my dad to have a day off so we can go visit his friend who is a carb specialist. See what I need besides carbs for it. I have a fabricator mate making me a manifold for material cost (woo) and another friend who is a motorbike specialist who can jet and set up the carbies properly. One major worry is the throttle linkage/accelerator cable? Can stock be used or do I have to do something else. As for supporting mods I'm thinking just a very mild work I've got headers and a 2" system lined up and I'll probably get it cammed. I'm not looking to make a monster engine just something that drives smooth makes a bit more power then stock and sounds nice. Any other suggestions to help me out would be nice

If you've got a carb specialist handy that hsould make it easier! I guess you'd need to work out the linkage type on the carbs, I believe some bikes are push pull with two cables, where cars are generally single cable and spring return. Linkages are fairly easy though, they should be a pretty small part of this project.

Take the head off and strip it. Have the valves ground (or do them yourself) and skim the head 10-20thou. Port the head out to the diameter of the one-piece manifold gasket and have your inlet manifold made to that diameter. Just let the ports smoothly return to stock diameter as they curve around the valve guide, unless you really want to get into stage two mods.

Get a cam cut to 275-280deg duration.

You won't need 2" exhaust pipe, inch & 3/4 will do. Put a big resonator in it and some sports rear muffler but not a hot dog. I used 2" pipe to the 2" resonator, then inch & 3/4 to the rear.

Fit an electric fan.

The linkage will be easy, but you will need a choke setup I expect. (no pump jets...)

Check out The Girls KE70 in my sig if you haven't already. Those were all simple mods we did that made it nicely quicker without making it a dog to drive in traffic.

Hey guys just a quick question on this - Been researching a bit on bike carbs and interested to know if anyone has experimented with 1 single bike carb?

The reason why I want to go down the bike carb route is because they are CV style and can handle angles pretty well (for steep hillclimbs and wierd angles for 4wd)

The kit I'm looking at accomodates 40mm or 44mm Harley Davidson carbs and looks to be something you bolt on an existing manifold.

Is there more of a gain to be had with four carbs over the one?

I realise the link I gave is for a suzuki sierra and their carbs are on the other side of the engine but i am pretty sure they share the same bolt pattern for carbs.
