I would love to put a 4age 20v in my Ae92 but i was thinking for now i might just mod my 4afe. i was thinking of cams and clutch, what would be good bang for buck? trying to stay NA. but would love to go turbo if a cheap way is good.

i wouldnt bother modding the 4afe its one of the eco versions of the 4a motor. Instead save that money and put it toward either the conversion or making ur ae92 handle first. my 2 cents or i should say 5 cents with inflation :thumbsup:

Why not go 16V conversion and going from there. Its cheaper than a 20v but you got more options than using your 4afe.

i don't think it would be that hard to make 20v sort of power (whilst still being reliable), with a well thoughtout mild boost turbo conversion.

Well i was thinking of getting a custom turbo manafold made for a small turbo from a turbo ford courior or something. not aheap of boost but boost still. and maybe it would last till i have money for my 20v swap.

 

I want to use a silver 20v coz they look really good and have a good amount of power. i would prob leave the 20v standard, apart from exhaust and cold air intake, we'll have to wait and see. I might get a bit power hungry.

i was reading on some american forum that the 4afe's will run happily up to 10psi, with an intercooler and good tune. the pistons go bang at 15psi. if you want more it is either internal work or conversion time.

Hmm...that sounds good. i would love to run about 10 psi with cooler. it would be a nice bit of power gain. would i have to get anything done to the computer? can the standard ecu be modded?

Unless you know someone with a spare silvertop head running around, it might just be easier (and cheaper in the long run) just getting a silvertop front cut and putting the whole 4AGE 20v in, plus gearbox, and selling everything that you don't need.

yeah i was going to get a half cut from a jap importer. i have a fair bit of mechanical skils and know how. i think i'd do most if the work myself and see if i could do it all myself. and any questions i have i'm sure i could get answered on a forum. :thumbsup:

I know this is an old thread but I got an AE95 4wd rolla with a 4AFE and was wondering about simple engine mods.

I was just thinking of an air filter and sticking on a muffler I've already got. Would this do anything or would it just be cosmetic? Any suggestions other than engine swaps and turbos? I'm seriously broke right now.

simplest way to gain power out of a 4afe is to remove head, get 4age head, get .8mm trd hadgasket, bolt 4age head onto 4afe bottom end and away you go :) won't make as much power as a factory 4age due to lower compression, but won't go bad. obviously will need 4age injectors and ecu too.
