lappy Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 (edited) I'm in the process of looking at buying extractors i would just like to know what brands people have used and ones they would reccomend? also what type 4-1 or 4-2-1? Edited July 25, 2006 by lappy Quote
Redwarf Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 I only go custom these days. Pay a little more, but worth every cent. Quote
st.nick Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 I bought a set of "Wildcat" extractors.. Apparently the same as Genies, just without the blue paint and little Genie badge. $330 fitted. Sound good, and hey, every little bit of extra BHP helps our little engines!! Quote
bruce Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Isn't there two extractor design types?: tuned Interference I think the tuned type are good for high rpm ranges, whilst the interference type is good for lower rpm ranges (like for daily driving). Quote
lappy Posted July 25, 2006 Author Report Posted July 25, 2006 (edited) Isn't there two extractor design types?:tuned Interference i don't know thats why i started this thread to learn some info i have never heard of interference extractors? Edited July 25, 2006 by lappy Quote
jamesrolla Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 i just bought some wild cat extractors last week, they look pretty good and they seemed to make a bit of a difference, they were $220 and i picked them up my self and fitted them, if anyone in hobart needs exhausts go to "bellerive suspension and exhaust", its the only place i go to now and they are the cheapest around, Quote
bruce Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 What sortof difference did they make, like in power through the rpm ranges? Did "bellerive suspension and exhaust" have other extractors for K engines? I saw the ad on TV. Quote
jamesrolla Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 i havent had a good drive of it yet but it seemed like it wasnt holding back as much anymore (might be because of the dellorto 40mm), its a little loud though because i havent put the new exhaust on it yet so its straight out the back of the exctractors they didnt have the extractors in stock, they were ordered in but i rang on monday and ordered them and i got a call from them on wednesday arvo saying they had arrived Quote
coln72 Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 If you want more power up high go for 4-1's 4-2-1's are good for midrange. That said I've only ran second hand 4-1's. Quote
Redwarf Posted July 25, 2006 Report Posted July 25, 2006 Went from 4-1 TRD copy extractors on the 2tg, with the collector about 12 inches from the head, to 4-2-1's with an overall length of 36 or so inches. Went from being a seriously top end engine, to having more mid range torque than a mothers club meeting. 4-2-1 for drivablility. Quote
lappy Posted July 25, 2006 Author Report Posted July 25, 2006 thats interesting thanks guys any more feedback would be handy guys Quote
st.nick Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 A word of warning tho... Fitting extractors to Ks creates a dirty great flatspot, and makes them pig-root under light acceleration (like on-and-off the throttle in slow traffic) Its apparently because the original manifold had the 'hot box' setup where it heats the inlet manifold... With extractors, this doesn't happen anymore. Any suggestions guys?? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Pretty sure my Hurricane extractors are 4-1, Never had a flat spot on acceleration and its perfectly drivable in day to day traffic.. Quote
bruce Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Has anyone tried out Lukey headers?: Lukey What are they like? Quote
bruce Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 Went to carline mufflers in Hobart to check out what headers they have. The guy looked at his catalogs, and he found three brands of headers: pace maker, genie, and hurricane. But then he looked a bit further in the catalog, and he reckons pace maker don't make them anymore. Lukey don't make them for old corollas as well. All of them were tuned extractor type. The guy reckons that there wouldn't be much difference between the 4-1's 4-2-1's extractors, other wise the manufactures would of made the 4-2-1's as well :P But I reckon the manufactures were thinking of the customers with the top end performance engines in mind.
