exhaust without extractors wouldnt do much.. i would recomend putting some sort of a muffeler on, maybe a hi flow V8 one, should be fairly cheap, V8 stuff is these days compared to anything for a import!!

 

I'm planning on a 2 1/4 plus a hi flow muffeler for my 4ac when i get it in. wont make a hell of a lot of diffrence but might give it a desent note.. also steer away from cannons, they are gay.. unless you have a lancer then they dobble the power just as the $1500 head unit did.

but straight through would probaly sound like sex :P

drone lol my mate had a 2.0ltr sigma with just a hot dog sounded awesome till ya back off and then the aaarrrrggggggggg would kick in sounded shit but it was loud so he liked it.and it blew flames out the back when he backed off ;)

i have a 2" system with a 2" lurker muffler and i like the sound it makes. its got a note to it but not like a lancer wanky note

 

as for power SFA for a 4k

Mate had a Sigma which ended up with a set of extractors, 2" system without the resonator ans a 3rd hand muffler which came off my Corolla (and a Torana before that) and had had the baffles knocked out of it ;) Loud but legal - it got quieter as it revved :P - and made a beautiful crackle on the over run.

My old man used to do key bangers as a kid and blew the ass off neally every muffler it was tried on.

 

I got a 5k and reciently had a new exhaust put through it, 2" right through, 4-1 extractors with a simple muffler. no cannon or anything like that.

 

Doubled in noise with a nice note to it but i don't expect anything in the area or powers ups from it. and even a 2" system is probably overkill for a k series motor because they don't really flow that much gas.

?? any smaller and there is no point in putting a diffrent exhaust on then. i don't think a 2" is too big, not that you would want much bigger.. on a engine that sees a high revs you would apprecate the largerness. but just driving around normaly you really wouldnt notice anything at all. on small engines any mod is going to be less effective. i.e. a turbo with .5 bar boost on a 4K increases by 40hp .5 of boost on a rb30 would result in 80-100hp increase...

 

capicity is good for something

I've got a set of 4-1 extractors into a 2 1/4 inch system with a simple sports muffler from Midas, cost me stuff all and sounds decent.

 

Would sound even better if I could get another 1000ish usuable RPM out of the 4K.

 

Had comments that it sounds like a WRX/Rotary at times. I wouldn't say it does much, but I haven't heard it from the outside yet.

 

No power gain though.
