JiP Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 (edited) I recieved this in an email. The new Benz - Very different....really different!...SCROLL DOWN... .....and now for the 'really different' part : No Steering wheel - Can you drive with a joystick? I bet the kids and grandkids probably can. The influence of video games in our lives has really arrived. Edited September 23, 2006 by JiP_01 Quote
JiP Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 It can be driven from either side. Quote
anastasios Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 needs different wheels badly, and i doubt that would come out anytime soon Quote
JiP Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 I agree, i also can't imagine it being easy to fit suff into its boot with the lid like that. Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 The dash looks kinda stupid with no steering wheel Quote
irokin Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Its gonna be dangerous. We've got a loader with a steering wheel and stick steer. Its really tricky to drive with the stick steer...can be very jerky if youre not used to it. Luckily the loaders top speeds 38kmph (it weighs upwards of 40 tonnes) but at highway speeds :P hope theyve got it sorted out. Stick steer has been around in earthmoving machinery since at least the 80s so its nothing new. Quote
JiP Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 I'd be scarey if the driver was use to driving a manual. Quote
ancullen Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 The degree of responsiveness would have to slow as the speed increases, like in variable rate power steering. Otherwise you'll tap it at high speed and plough into a wall. Quote
JiP Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 (edited) Would that effect your steering?? What if you had to dodge someone merging into your lane?? Edited September 24, 2006 by JiP_01 Quote
ancullen Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 (edited) Actually I'm thinking of the wrong thing. What they need is servos or something to make the joystick stiffer to move. Current cars have power steering that gets heavier at higher speeds so you can't suddenly turn the wheel full lock at 100km/h. Edited September 24, 2006 by ancullen Quote
Jono Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 It can be driven from either side. you would have to ask the passenger (if you had one) what speed you were doing. I guess the screens could be programmed to show the speedo gear on whatever side. Quote
