What he said.

Also, with a Jap diff, the centre unbolts from the front side of the diff. The borg warners unbolt from the back and as Irokin said, they have a backing plate.

Jap diffs are better because you can swap a complete centre over without having to unbolt the crown wheel from the diff centre itself to keep the gear ratio's the same.

Its just a matter of pulling out the old stuffed centre and bolting in the another one, providing you've removed the axles first of course. :(

no, ke55 (borg warner) axles do not fit into ke20/30 (jap) diff

yes, you can convert to later stud pattern in a ke20, but using ke30 axles and shortening them 5-6mm or so. IF you do this, you will need to use ke30 drums and backing plates on ke20 housing, as the axle flanges are different lengths between ke20 and ke30

you can also use the larger ke55 drums and backing plates, on a ke20 housing, with shortened ke30 axles in it

A little off topic, but is a ke25 diff identicle to a ke20?? And is the centre the same as the banjo centre found in a ke30?? thanks ;) I have searched this but its probably not on here as everyone probably already knows the answer(except me) :D

Okay, a bit confusing, but here we go.

KE25's all came out of the box with Jap (Banjo) diffs.

KE20's came with both Jap and Borg Warner diffs.

A center from a Jap 2X series will bolt into a Jap 3X housing.

Cheers
