  1. single hex sockets? is that what the long sockets are called? However, now we're moving away from my original ideal (everything in one place - in one kit - in it's own spot). Rob: Thank you for your diplomatic explanation  I have trouble with unscrewing hose clamps (LOL) so, what's the difference between using the one in your link, and using the bendy socket one an extention thats the kit? ..... (not so bendy?) Lesley :)
  2. ROB: I kind of stayed away from that one in your link because I don't really know why I'd need deep sockets... what would I need deep sockets for? I wasn't sure if I needed metric or imperial so thought it best to get a combination one. Lesley
  3. Heya, I DO have a friend in Victoria who is a mechanic, he may be able to get it for me...I'll have to send him an email and ask. I was reading in a Tool Catalogue about the "TFYT Vouchers" (Tools For Your Trade) its a rebate from the government. If you're a first year apprentice, you get an $800 voucher to spend at a registered tool dealer so a toolkit that would normally cost, say. $1000 you get for $200! Isn't that a great idea! FLATOUT that's a nice kit  Thanks for your help everyone, it's appreciated :) Lesley
  4. MRMOPAMAN LOL if I bought a toolkit like your one, for me, I'd have to tell my husband it was for him  LOL!!!! Considering I don't do a whole heap of mechanical work (because I don't know what I'm doing half the time - although the pipes and hoses etc., I'm ok with) something the size of your picture is WAY big over kill for me!! There is NO WAY I can afford/want to spend money on snap on tools, they're nice, but I can't justify spending that much on tools. Everyone: I have a set of Stanley screwdrivers already (complete!). And I've decided I like the look of the KINCROME stuff. So should I be looking for preferably 1/2 inch drive?? What's the purpose of having two different drive sizes (ie 1/4 and 1/2)? I've found one I like :) http://www.kincrome.com.au/web/catalogue/s...rtnumber=13547P Lesley :)
  5. Hey, After my missing tools episode last week I decided to splurge and get myself a new tool-kit. The problem is, the place I went to the guys there treated me like an idtiot - and made me uncomfortable by making fun of me when they thought I couldn't hear/see them (fair enough I call it the bendy head socket, I may not know what it's really called, but I do know HOW to use it) but I'm going to be spending a couple of hundred bucks (not there anymore!!!). So I got to thinking what brand of socket sets/tool kits do you guys use? I know Kingchrome make Supertool brand and that my Dad would tell me to Go with Sidchrome. But I do loose bits (because people borrow them and don't put them back) so I'm putting the No. 10 socket on those chain things like the bank does with pens (lol). I have a scewdriver set, and some old spanners (but incomplete) so I though maybe a socket and a spanner set I saw this one and I'm really liking it: http://www.collinsid.com.au/Tools%2B-%2BHa...B%2BDrive.phtml But I thought the standard drive was 1/2" so then I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-SUPATOOL-TOOL-K...1QQcmdZViewItem Am I on the right track? What do you guys use or recommend? Lesley
  6. I GOT IT!!!!!! and I watched it, so now you can borrow it :y: I look fat on tv :( Renee was in there so you might want to invite her around to watch it :P PM me so I can give it to you!!! Lesley
  7. Hey Clown, That was me :y: BB I get around a bit :P Lesley
  8. *excuse the ramblings...* So my excitement has turned to disappointment, I spent 2 hours on the car, broke TWO fingernails AND lost a screwdriver... I had some time and a burst of energy and thought to myself, I can fit the hoses, shouldn't take too long, 1/2 hour max....looked for MY toolbox for 15 minutes (it wasn't where I left it) took it up to the car and there were bits missing - someone had been in MY toolbox!!! run down to the shed to find tools (man it's scary in there, there is SO much crap!) run back up to the car, had the parts laid out and looked in the engine bay to decide best course of action, knew what I was going to do..... Open up the tool box, didn't have a bendy socket thingo, or a stubby screwdriver *crap* back down to the shed to find the screwdrivers. Unfortunately, the screwdrivers I did find wouldn't fit into the space I had...so I meccano'ed the socket with the long attachment and shoved in the itty bitty socket screwdriver thing and attempted to loosen the hose clamps, when the screwdriver attachment bit fell into the engine bay (I never managed to find it)part of the reason it fell out was, well, I wasn't strong enough in the wrist to turn the screwdriver, but I got around that by using a 10mm socket over the hose clamp and used the ratchet...much easier... still didn't have enough room though down in the bottom of the engine bay so I decided to take it off further on up the piping...sucess! The second bit of hosing (which was held on with one hose clamp) didn't actually join any piping together, it was totally surpuflous! the only reason I could think of why it was there was perhaps it cushioned the piping when the car was moving by wedging it between the rocker cover and the windscreen water reservoir? So I put on the 90 degree angle hosing onto the straight bit of piping it went on with a bit of manouvering, got the hose clamp on, looked pretty spiffy! I thought that if I got that bit on it would be fairly straight foward to attach it to the turbo and I could position the hose clamp so it would be easier to undo should the need arise got it all put back together, easy huh? I attempted to attach the 90 degree bit but it seemed loose - run inside to get the verniers, then back out to the car - measured it up and found that the outside diameter of the piping out of the turbo was only 46mm and the inside diameter of the new hose was 51 *crap* :S So I took it all back off again and tried to figure out what to do with the parts I had. While I was sitting in my front garden holding the bit of piping, I noticed that the paint was, well a bit crappy, I scraped a bit off with my finger nail and it came off REALLY easily, after I broke two fingernails I decided to improvise a bit, I used a screwdriver and a chux and managed to get most of the paint off, then I tried turps and then metholated spirits to get the rest off, without success....think I might get it ceramic coated.... I decided that there really wasn't resolution to the hosing that I could do with the parts I had on hand, so I had to put it all back together again *sigh*. Meanwhile hubby was having a cow because I was running late...finished putting it all back together ran inside to clean up, noticed that there were greasy fingerprints on the door, cupboard, and the wall (I have no idea how they got there), back out to the car to start it up and...the battery was flat! (again!). This time I'd only had the radio on for about 15 minutes! So I called the RAA to get a new battery. Hubby called me to find out where I was, and I managed to clutch start the car in less that 1.5 meters, all by myself! :hmm: Raced to Hubby, then back home to wait for the RAA. Got a new battery and she's running beatifully. I reckon I need to find out if theres a 90 degree pipe that's small enough to fit on my turbo that then gradually gets bigger through the bend, have to check it out tomorrow... The most FRUSTRATING thing is that this shouldn't have been a saga, it should have been all straight forward, but I'm kinda pissed at myself because, well as we all know hindsight is a wonderful thing, I shouldn't have assumed the pipe was, as the parts shop advised, a standard 51mm, I should have checked it myself and secondly, I felt stupid because something as easy as replacing a hose turned out to be well, not entirely difficult, but more of a pain in the arse. But even after been frustrated to hell, burning myself (because I was too eager for the engine to cool down completely), breaking nails (right at the quick!), finding bits of my tool box missing and having to rumage in the shed (where all of the spiders live - and hold their daily meetings), I still had fun  Lesley
  9. I didn't get any work done today, well not much ..... I've been watching Top Gear, in Episode 4 (I think) of series 7 they did a test on the Ford Focus Turbo (you remember the one I got trounced by on the freeway?) that was hugely interesting and then I watched the Top Gear winter olympics which was a BLAST! :S off to watch more top gear :hmm: Lesley
  10. irokin ... I agree that the site you posted was AWESOME :S however, let me refine my comments - my site is a little better than utube for episodes (and easily to manage) and easier to get a full screen video of Top Gear (although not the entire series) that you don't have to spend 3 days downloading. See how I can backpedal? Lesley :hmm:
  11. http://www.tv-links.co.uk/ enjoy :S you can't download them but you can watch them :hmm: Lesley
  12. that's my FAVOURITE ONE!!!
  13. hey! I've never purposely spun the wheels! they've ALL been accidental :S and I've never done a doughnut! Lesley :hmm:
  14. I bought mine :S looking forward to watching it :hmm:
  15. Hurro! Well, I'm a little excited... I bought the car (which I'm leaning towards calling TAWNY) a present. I got some SFS performance silicone hoses only two pieces as they're bloody expensive! along with some super dooper hose clamps which will polish up really nicely. The best part is, they're RED :jamie: Now all I have to do is put them on :y: will post pics when they're done. Lesley :fuzz:
  16. YAY! you got your car back!!!!!!! How's it running? I hate it when it's in for servicing, painting etc., (last year was 192 days in total) but when you get it back it makes you appreciate it all the more :jamie: Lesley :y:
  17. that was on the Top Gear DVD that I watched a while ago. My daughter came in while I was watching it and said OMG! you're going to be like that aren't you? LOL :jamie: Lesley :y:
  18. Hey All, Does anyone know if there is a statute of limitations on road rage charges?? The reason is, about 4-5 years ago, one of the very first times I'd driven my husbands car, I was involved in a serious road rage incident (as the victim). After if happened, I drove straight to the police station and lodged a report, and although I had a really good description of the driver and the make, model, year of the car, I didn't get the registration number of the car. The driver of the other car terrified me, brought me to tears and instilled a phobia I still have to this day. Tonight, I was driving home, and I was behind what I believe was the SAME car (with the same driver), I'm 98% positive it was the same car and driver (make, model, year, and driver details were so close - although he had a little less hair) I had a panic attack and felt like I was going to be sick. I followed him tonight and got his number plate and when I saw my husband tonight, he took one look at me and knew there was something majorly wrong with me. So in all seriousness, does anyone know if there is a stature of limitations on road rage charges? Lesley
