Yes torque wrench! Went to check them out at repco today when I bought the head gasket, which was on sale  I'm not going to use a normal wrench haha. Goringe's sounds good for the headwork, but I just don't know if I want to spend that much on the 3k, that's the problem. BlueKsev, just added them! I didn't know engines had to be from registered cars to be legit, cheers. I have mates who know what they're doing and would pretty much help me change it over for a carton, I wouldn't be doing it myself, if that's what you're getting at, parrot. I'm not going to go have a hack at the engine that I so badly want to preserve by myself haha

Yeah I've been meaning to. What are those tools you use to tighten the head? Like a socket wreck but more hardcore? I'll have to hire one I reckon

Styler - Yeah was thinking of just doing that first, but I want to get a good idea of the future too, not just short term. B.Z.B - I'm in Kingston, Hobart. There's a few people doing up ksevs around so I should be able to find a 4k pretty easy, just a matter of how many ks! Went to a wrecker out the burbs and saw a ke55 and they wanted 400 for the engine, I was like okay, leaving now... Haha Altezzaclub - Good thinking man, I was actually thinking of something along those lines a while back, like making a glass top table out of it for the time being and then selling it original or just changing back in the future hahaha, but thanks, I didn't know about putting the oil or CRC in, thanks heaps. Just comes down to money again, if I sold the 3k the money could go along way.. But 4ks are cheap as chips, what am I thinking! I could also get a 5spd box too, as I'll be off my Ps soonish and have to use the highway a lot. Cheers guys Any more ideas?

Another Ke70 Engine Conversion (Ls1 Turbo) (Pics Inside)
Nostalgia replied to vltrb-0's topic in Engine Conversions
Sounds mental mate! Hoping you get it done quickly, I'm keen to see vids of massive skids! -
The other day after a massive spike a month or so back in temperature (then not driving him), I did a full flush of all coolant and used radiator cleaner and cleaned up the gunky thermostat and put it all back together, and for a week or so it was fine. But now as of a few days ago, the thermostat in my 26 has started fluctuating intermittently, once up to as far as it goes when I was in a multi-story carpark going like 15kmh.. and there's tiny bubbles in the radiator on startup.. And he blew a bit of smoke yesterday. Went to a radiator place in town today and and after a look he said I've done a head gasket, but only a little, and because of a possible partially blocked radiator + old age. After leaving there I drove for another 45 minutes or so and the thermostat didn't fluctuate a bit.. just stayed normal.. (see what I mean) He said it could cost me 600-800 including skim and probably radiator service, or a bit less if he did it for me in person. I went to another place in Kingston Beach today and he said it could cost 700-1000, but he then said he's not sure as he's used to 6cyl and 3k's are easy to work on. He then said if I was to take it apart and put it back together myself and take my head to JustJap in Glenorchy, which is where they send their heads to, it could cost me 300-400. But then I would have to still get the radiator checked out. Now I could do this, I am mechanically minded but not too experienced, but I'd been contemplating putting a 4k or 5k (or other toyota carb engine with minimal fitment work) in him for some time now.. Surely for the money I could end up paying to get the 3k ok I could get a 4k and work it or a 5k.. Plus a bloke who owns multiple wreckers around the state saw my car and frothed hard, saying the engine itself would be worth 500-600 by itself.. And there's someone in tassie who wants one.. I have no idea what to do and need opinions! Here's my pros and cons so far: PROS - Faster, bigger engine which can actually keep up with traffic. - Working engine means I would also get exhaust and be worth it. - More cost effective - I may decide to get a bigger engine in the first place anyway - 3k is soo slow. - I could have a m.int(ish) fUlLy sIk rolla - I really do want a project I can personalise and make my own.. - I could hate myself for spending so much for no improvement, though the idea of working the 3k to awesomeness is pretty cool. CONS - I want a worked engine but I don't want to ruin the originality of a rare 3k which has only done under 42000 miles since new. - I don't want to split up such an original, rare car (even though I had to change some things for rwc) - Potential downward spiral in overall value and potential value appreciation, seeing as the only other imperfections are on the body, and not many of them.. And especially seeing as I was told by a guy who knows what he's talking about that it could be worth anywhere up to 8-9g to the right person. - I could hate myself forever if I ruin it's originality. I know I may seem weird but I care ALOT about originality if it's in good condition.. For reference check out my 26 in my signature. Also keep in mind I'm Uni student trying to sell another car to pay back my mum, and making $140 a week unless I work my ass off. Please help, any suggestions would be great, I'm sure other people have been in this situation!

I drove my nan's starlet, same model as pictured, and the engine was really revvy and zippy, I was quite surprised! They'd be a bit small for you though, and the four doors look a little homo stock, that said I saw one lowered slightly on maybe 16s and looked pretty decent.

N14 SSS? SR20, You'd be able to get a great example for less than six g's, with money left over for insurance, rego, petty or whatever. My old 1.6 n14 felt pretty quick for me and was fun through windy roads, if it was an SSS I would've kept it for sure. And good ones seem to hold their value quite well now. Maybe even N15 SSS?

My 73 ke26, fully standard 3k 4spd with unleaded and lead replacement did 272 MILES on a tank, which is 30 litres? Keeping in mind I like to actually keep up with traffic, and I think I like to listen to my 3k a bit too much if you know what I mean :) Edit: Just worked that out to be about 7L/100kms :laff: On Christmas day, drove from Kingston to Mobray then Grindlewald (about 15ks past Launceston) On less than a quarter of a tank, going 80-90 by myself  came back the next day with two passengers and used about a third of a tank.

1.25 litre bottle of Solo + 33 degree day in direct sunlight, wadup sticky situation. I never thought it would happen to a plastic bottle but it did, it had been opened before but only had a sip so it was pretty much full. It was in the boot so I had clothes and boxes all soggy and sticky. Also happened with a coke can! Anyway, you should be glad no one was in the car when that thing went off, would've been brutal if that can hit someone in the face/head 8/

Also check out the ke-30 2 door sedan, they seem rare as rocking horse poo, but I think they're pretty hot! And apart from maybe a few rarer panels on the outside or inside, they're also pretty much fully interchangeable with say, a 4 door 30 or 55 for most parts! Were you thinking of coupe, sedan, wagon?

Do it Trev! -
Haha, mum keeps her eye open for cars for me too, she has a good eye for cars! And cheers dude, she's a bit dirty at the moment, needs a wash and cut and polish! But yeah, if you see me around just come over, I'd take you for a spin if we're not busy

Haha yeah, at the girlfriend's house, where it spends most of it's time actually! Goes wherever I go haha I get a bit worried leaving it there, my Pulsar got broken into twice parked in the same place last year, but so far so good with George :)
-
Getting there! Hurry up and finish it so I can see it driving around kingo
-
Bit of inspiration from Lloyd Smith I'm guessing? Going to be awesome :) Curious to know how you plan on putting fuel in it, seeing as you shaved the fuel cap. Will you have to go in via the boot?

REGISTEREDEDEDEDDD! I'm so happy! A special thanks to Ozzy Tyres for getting me a good deal on my bushes and brake hoses, even though it took them 3.5 weeks and they had to take it back and actually adjust the brakes... Also Instant Windscreens for sneakily getting me a windscreen for $350 fitted from O'Brien, saving me a few hundred! And a special thanks to Scott (PMP020) for the indicators which sealed the deal ten minutes before the inspection :) It was funny, walking home after dropping the 26 at the Service Centre, the receipt for the 26 fell out of my pocket, so I had no proof that I owned it when I went to change the rego into my name and pay for it, other than the original ad from the paper, the previous owners name and the papers to say I'd had the inspection done! But the nice lady at Service Tas helped me out and she was on the road in no time :) I will post up some HOT modelling photos of Georgie soon ;)

In Saturday's paper, "Tada (Tetsuya Tada, cheif engineer) says weekend warriors will find enough space in the tail for a spare set of wheels for drifting and a toolbox." Certainly sounds like it!
-
Cheers! I love yours man, I've watched your videos a number of times, it sounds SO good! Actually just last night a was searching for your thread to find your suspension setup :) And I don't think I'll be selling this for a LONG time. When I get another daily in the future and this is m.int I'll be putting it on SI plates :)
-
Nice, love the wheels :) 1. 4a? Did you do a conversion, or do you mean 4k? 2. 7afe, from 2000ish corolla? 1.8? Has that been done before? Sounds ambitious!
-
Targa is a dream of mine. Sounds like you already have the advice you need, but do you think a larger diameter exhaust system would be worth the money? Or just an overkill because of the small size of the engine? Maybe just sports muffler?
-
Awesome! What is the engine in?
-
Haha oh gees. New tyres today thanks to Ozzy Tyres Moonah :) Federal 155 r12s, $75 each. They're going to be doing the rest of my brake and suspension work also! Got a little white 'Ozzy Tyres' sticker for the back window :) adjacent the 'Co-operative Motors' sticker.
-
3spd? Odd, I didn't think they came 3! Mines 4spd, 275,000 ks haha. I guess yours wasn't making the original 88 killawasps, far from it by the sounds! Anyway, hoping to go to Bob Jane's, Ozzy Tyres, Pedders and Instant Windscreens tomorrow to make some appointments :) very keen to get things moving.

I think there was something wrong with your Camry Josh, mine has a boring auto and it goes surprisingly hard! Specially with a manual and the weight of a 26. Plus the FE is twincam my friend. A Beams or even just a GE would be sweet, but I never would, I want to keep the 3k! If I wanted a 26 with a 4age or 12a or Beams or anything, I'd buy an already molested 26 and ruin that haha.
-
Haha yeah, and considering I only paid $250 for the van before the 4k drowned, I'm pretty happy! Both the liteace and the 26 have those same gutters so should work a treat, might just find some old innertube from my mountain bike as something to put between the gutter and the clamp bit :2thumbs:
