  1. now that ^ sounds like a challenge! :D
  2. it was a body damaged supra that got me on this train of thought, it was $2k and running. I was originally going to go with a turbo 5k.. and have most of the bits for it.. but i thought hard about it, and I don't think it will keep me happy for long.. I have a worked vr4 galant, and have considered using the turbo 4g63, and selling the rest as parts.. I dunno, maybe i'll just do a turbo 4ag like everyone else.. or maybe i'll just sell all my shit and buy one already done.. I was only asking about the engine, and i want to start with the engine. I do not see the point in building the car, suspension, brakes, etc, get it all sorted, then throw everything out of whack because i put another 100 kgs into it.
  3. not what i was expecting.. so ur telling me, that i can't buy a writen off silvia with almost everything i need to do the conversion for $2k? I can use an angle grinder, welder, mulitmetre and soldering iron! I don't want it on the road.. EVER. k series engine? pfft. I wasnt asking for a price for some mechanic (or more likely his apprentice which he charges full price for) to do the conversion. The engine doesnt have to be like new.. sigh. never mind.
  4. Hi all, building a ke20 for street sprints/track days. wondering what peoples opinions are regarding which would be the best engine to convert to. I want it to handle as well, so weight and distribution will be important, any brand.. holden, nissan, jeep lol.. i don't care as long as it fits in ok. preferably keep the engine to a budget of say $2k. either rebuilt, or jap import etc. 5 speed box preferred. some ideas already: 4agte, sr20det, ijz, commodore v6, 253.
  5. I wish i cld find a ready made ke20 like frasians lol ok so as long as i cut some indicator holes, i should be able to use them.. thanks.. i almost have a complete car! woohoo
  6. problem is that the guards on the flat front are good, but the bonnet and grill arent, and vice versa on the pointy.. i guess i'll just try it and see what happens.
  7. Hey all, So I have a flat front ke20 in good condition apart from the bonnet and grill, Plus i have a ke20 in bad condition with a good pointy? front end.. can i put the bonnet, and grill from the pointy one onto the flat fronted one? are the guards the same? are the plastic corner finishers (outside of the headlights to the guards) interchangeable?
  8. anyone? please
  9. hahaha! yep i would second that. i get crap economy out of everything i drive.. has something to do with my right foot trying to find redline constantly
  10. yep.. have to cut some of the spline off. they are longer. i think from memory 10 mm of each.. not sure tho.
  11. ok so i am learning how to do rust repairs. got a $200 ke20 that someone else started repairing and stopped. I have started welding in new material, but have hit a problem. I don't know what it used to look like as i wasnt the one who cut out the rusted sections. The part i am after is the sill at the front of the door and where it meets the 'frame?' heading up to the windscreen. I am using the original bootlid for steel as it had some prang damage and bad rust along the bottom edge. Then i'll find another bootlid for it.. and at the end.. it will still be ALL TOYOTA ;) I'll attempt to post some pics of what i mean. this is some of what i have done so far^ but i am unsure what shape the rest is upposed to be. passenger side is pretty bad..
  12. Update.. Finally started, pics coming. Found another 20, I now have: 2 x other peoples "unfinished project ke20, partly dismantled and some repairs started, almost complete.." building one car out of the two.. Finally started, pics coming.. Yesterday took to all the bubbles with an angle grinder wire brush.. Decided it was fixable-able.. (with my half hours worth of google knowledge) :hmm: Never cut rust out before, decided the boot was history and used it for patch panels, first attempt was good, not that hard, and nothing that bog wont make pretty.. I wish i could weld Planning to paint it red and black. All the ex grey (now faded brown) grill, corner finishers, tailight surrounds etc I am painting satin black with red trims. The body monza red, with chrome bumpers if savageable.. otherwise.. black. Pin stripes and (what are those door protector rubber chrome pinstripy things?) will be coming off and body mostly debadged. Would love to see some te27 flares and fender mirrors on there at some stage.
  13. thanks thats what i was thinking.. so air clean, spray and cover..
  14. I have a bunch of k motors i want to strip to see what i have and in what stages of shagged it is.. build a simple warm 3k from the bits as a learning experience and store the leftovers for future use. Just wondering on the cleaning and storing methods? also i have a very good 3k block that' had a light sprinkling of sand in it. It hasn't been turned over since it got the sand.. is it salvageable?
  15. change the box. K40 4 speeds are cheap. 5 speeds link below. http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Gearboxes
  16. Usually with wheel nuts.. shiny ones ;) sorry could help myself
  17. have heard the thailand kits are dodgy quality and wont last long.. but for the price it's probably what i will be using.. not building a show car here.
  18. The car i am thinking of doing this to, will Never be road registered again, regardless. The setup i have is off a ford laser, is already setup as a suck thru su. I don't want to mess around with blow thru. I'm not wanting to intercool it, might consider the water/meth setup down the track. the way i understand it (correct me if i am wrong) is that the su is perfectly suited for suck thru as they regulate the amount of fuel in directly in line with the amount of air being drawn thru it. making tuning much easier.
  19. Ok I found my own answer.. keep it horizontal.. on it's side. Appears they are a simple carb, with a mixture screw.. maybe like tuning an old diesel? (minus the injection) On a non road going car, can i cut the front wheel well to fit the turbo and carb horizontally, and parallel to the engine (preferably with the carb facing forwards) would make mounting much easier ;) i would need to brace the strut right?
  20. in the planning stage of mounting an su carby and turbo to 5k. An su carby is required to face in one particular direction right? i believe it was sidedraft in its original application.. also how long a pipe can i have between carby and turbo?
  21. oh quick question.. does it matter how far an su carby is from the turbo intake?
  22. quick update.. no i'm not dead ;) just busy. stupid floods! I got a good running 5k with the alternator, starter, fan, etc, still bolted to the 5 speed gearbox from mate for 70 bucks  unforunately no room in shed yet.. still no house.. so its stored elsewhere. Also found one of my old rally cars, the one my brother rolled, it has a datsun engine in it :bash: unfinished conversion :rolls: I get that for the princely sum of 1x 6pack :) old mate from school had it. probably throwing an engine and box into it to make a dirt thrasher or re-shell it
  23. if you are running straight gas, not dual fuel, then you shouldn't require the efi at all..
  24. would perspex work? I have that ;)
