I agree 100% with fook 99.99999999% of auto electrical faults can be attributed to bad earths. Understand and get used to using a multimeter, it will save you hundreds Most of all don't be daunted by the thought of doing it yourself , it's not rocket science.

Know I may be a bit late but check out the mr2 site for a wiring diagram Your circuit opening relay usually mounts underneath your computer Once you have a relevant wiring diagram start from scratch and check all of your connections. and please solder all joins , not twist them together like somebody i once knew did who had a number of intermittent problems.(wonder why)

I'm sitting here thinking of all the bad names to call all of you who made it to the motorkhana on sunday while I was working on our block of land.(digging out stumps, fencing and thinking of things I would rather be doing) Don't worry it's only my jealosy bubbling to the surface. It sounds as though you all had a ball, #$@%^&*(*&^%$.(trying to curb my envy) Would love to see some results if anyone knows them, how did fook and mel fare, no need to ask about rob. starting to fade from irridescent green to lime. ah well it won't take long for the w.d. king to come back ( anyone got a spare big end bearing laying about)

maybe that was Rhs engine/box bracket
-
with the mod ( motor and box) being basically a bolt up job you should have no problems getting it approved ( apart maybe from a brake upgrade depending on your model ) i have done it a number of times in Qld. as for the carbs WWEEBBEERRSS the box will bolt up but just check the position of the gear lever as you may have to move the hole in the floor. also watch out for the 5k motor with the vibration dampening weight on the backing plate( between motor and box) a fancy looking round lump of metal about 35-40 dia fixed to the front side of the backing plate. !!! remove it before installing engine/box into car!!! (again depending on model of car it could interfere with the drag link) just cut it off with a grinder as its a lot easier doing it out of the car. don't fit the Lhs engine/box bracket check the water pump shaft length make sure you get the tailshaft for the box ( or at least the slip yoke to swap onto your tailshaft) probably more little things to look out for but I'm 1/2 F.O.P. just now anyway post here again if any problems.

Yes the 5k will bolt into your 55 never actually seen any specs on 5k's but you will have more horses and definitely more torque the old saying ( there's no replacement for displacement ) as for solid lifters they are available couple of tips scour the wreckers or trading post for a mid 80's liteace ( or a 99+ townace if you can find one, 7k? ) change to a double row timing chain and check for all the usual things when buying a 2nd hand engine Doug could give you some good tips

Thanks Doug, for pointing out that it was No. 1 Son that 'BROKE' the car. Should I be looking for dents in the sump? See Fook, 'I' don't break things. (well, I always seem to find someone else to blame) I can only concur with what Fook said about a fun day and add that it was a ball having 2 runs at each course.( and watching Fook 'DRIFT' around diamond slalom) My thanks go out to Wheeley for his input about my car and driving skills ( or lack there of) I think a lot of other people could learn a hell from just talking to the man. Get off your arses ( and away from your PC's ) and get out and 'NIKE' ( just do it ) I was terribly dissapointed to see the corolla's were outnumbered by mini's and mazda's. For all of you who don't know, pencil in the 8th of August on your calendars, QMS on the Gold Coast.

One thing to check is the wiring (power supply) to dist. Had similar thing happen to wifes AE82-4afe. On extremely cold mornings the car would start and run OK for 50 metres and then stop. Would not run again until the air temp warmed up and then everthing was fine. Had me stuffed until by luck I was checking temp switch connection while engine was running and accidentally moved the wiring harness and the engine died. Long story short, the actual copper wire in the extension I had wired into the dist was broken inside. combination of a cold contracted wire and engine movement resulted in loss of conductivity until air temp raised. Replaced the offending wire and no more problems. Hate to think what a mechanic or auto elec would have charged. Your case , Dunno, but I would whip out the multi meter and check the relevant wires. Hope this helps Peter

still reckon why stuff around with cable and not make hyd. got a welder know of anyone with a landrover little bit of magic and shazzam a rear end that locks up at the flick of a lever
-
why did you get rid of it? heh, heh, heh silly Question.

with regard to the installation of the shoes, a silly question. have you a workshop manual, they usually show you in there. What do you mean about self energising? have a think about how the mechanism works, two shoes pushed apart by an hydraulic cylinder ( in good condition I hope ). or , again pushed apart, by a bell crank via your handbrake cable. we will leave out the self adjusters for now ( a basic ratchet mechanism). start with the cable, is it secured properly along it's length, I mean in it's original bracket and clips etc. toyota put them there for a reason. remove a drum and see if it's all working ( just don't let anyone stick their hoof on the brake pedal while the drum is off) If the cable and everything else is in good condition I reckon it will be drums and shoes. It's not that complicated. Although, vehicle is named 'HAL'. What have you done to him Stanley.

are the shoes machined to suit the drums when I dismantled the suzi I found the shoes were only wearing in the middle. less contact area on one side resulted in the pulling which in your case is irrelevant. are your shoes wearing evenly over the pad material or just in one spot.
-
what condition are your drums and shoes in? had a suziki once with drums on the front did the right thing, had the drums machined and bought new linings no matter what I did the damn thing would always pull to one side eventually pulled everything apart and measured one drum oversize one drum double oversize standard linings right ok

From ' getting him' to do homework, clean up room, save money long since given up. as for selling gazelle and keeping ke20, which would create greater wealth and whose pocket would it go into. talk about value
-
Iwas trying to convince no 1 son of same with ke16 but felix will now benefit from it. and then he bought a nissan gazelle?????
-
Don't know if it's any good but got a price for you A539 185/60/13 $134 175/60/13 $133

I remember when I was first selling ryans ke16 a bloke came to look at it and while I was showing it to him he kept looking over at the wife's ke10.( breif description; rebuilt from ground up, 5k 5 speed etc.) He eventually asked how much I would sell her car for and I said I'd have to get $5000 for it.( didn't really want to sell it ) Not a problem, he went straight up to the atm and came back with a $500 deposit. so you never know. Funny story; He wanted a proper rwc done on it ( not through my usual contact ) so I took it up to the local BP. When I picked the car up the Mech said he had to fail it. WTF , yeah he said the windscreen washers and demister didn't work. Washers, turned knob , zzzzzzz, no water coming out, 'oh shit mate it was my wifes car I,m sorry I forgot to see if there was water in the bottle. ' Demister, 'Did you happen to look at the owners manual on the passenger seat, opened to the page describing how to operate the demister?' 'Err no,' activated demister, Mech ' Its not very strong' 'For an optional extra on a 30+yo what do you expect?' Result = Pass What do you do with a drunken sailor?

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but anyway. How do you put a price on an item? A number of factors come to mind and they are by no means exhaustive. 1. what you paid for it 2. reason for selling 3. market value I'm sure there are more but these will do for the moment. ' What you paid for it' , sit down and tally up every cent you spent on it and think about cutting your throat. ( bugger these safety razors ) ' Reason for selling ' is it a fire sale, profit making exercise or reasonable attempt to recoup costs. ' market value ' tough one, what will the market pay for your item? Take a look at the property market at the moment , gone mad! KE30 parts, can't give them away. ( I'm sure someone will disagree! ) The first two you can decide yourself. The last one is made for you. You want as much as you can get and the buyer wants to pay as little as possible. How long is a 'piece' of string ? I don't know the answer to this or the meaning of life. Your thoughts ? As this is a FORUM I hope this can stimulate some debate on the subject.
