Anyone wondering what this is, it's a touring road event. Basically like a tarmac rally, except more emphasis on navigation (but there are also fun speed events)
This event is one of the two "big" touring road events run in the SEQ area, the other being the Queensland Challenge which is run at the end of July. Coastal Challenge (referred to now as CC for short) is a good lead up to this.
CC this year (as with most other years) runs around Nambour, Gympie, Imbil and Caloundra, and is run in conjunction with the ARC (Australian Rally Championship). In fact, you even get to run some of the ARC special stages, I believe this year there will be two - one at Imbil and one at Caloundra (Caloundra Capers Super Special at Kings Beach!!!). In addition to those 2, there are 4 other special stages, two in a carpark (motorkhana?), one I think on a skidpan at Gympie, and the other somewhere else.
Both crew members will need a CAMS 2NS licence, which is cheap, and just involves filling in a form (no tests or anything), so is piss easy to get. You'll need 2kg of fire extinguishers, safety triangles and a first aid kit, as well as CAMS approved helmets (motorcycle is fine) for both crew members.
This year it costs $132 per crew, and there is an information night on the 25th May at BSCC. Entries open today, and close on the 27th of May. There is a Show and Shine to display cars for the event (I'm thinking of doing this perhaps, who's in? Rollaclub Represent, yo!) on this saturday at Fulcrum Capalaba, Neumann Road.
Classes this year have changed (SUCK), they are now:
Class 1 - Pre 1974
Class 2 - 1975-1989
Class 3 - Post 1989
Class 4 - AWD/4WD
Hope to see yas all there!
