  1. Can i please make the request that u don't hack the rear up b4 i get a chance to have a looksee at it?
  2. and this is the crap one altho it looks good in the pic. Pretty much every panel is rusty as hell and it is full of bog. it does have the front end i want tho (which is in good nick), a good chassis, disk brakes and a heap of good parts
  3. pics, whilst it looks rough, this is the good 1
  4. It'll prolly cost more than Ive spent on the rolla up to this point, the rolla will eventually have cost more tho
  5. pfft, $2000 grand, thats not even half of what i spent all up getting that suspension under there. And timeframe depends on money, if i get fulltime work then i can get more done, if i stay unemployed then i can't do much to it. It wont be as high dollar as the rolla as its gonna be a cruiser but i want as much as possible to be new, I'm sick of dealing with 2nd hand shit that fails. Either way, I'll b sure to let u know when I'm starting on it coz I'm gonna need a fair bit of help 2 lift the body off. 1st things first tho, i gotta get the wags running and go from there.
  6. Thats pretty much it yeah, its looks right, fits, has enuf grunt to rip a decent skid and is reliable and simple. If i was made of money i'd get hold of the 5.7L 1UZ out of the US tundra ute and supercharge it but unfortunately I'm not so chev it is.
  7. Got my quote from rocket today and in definately going the 350 chev, i can get a brand new chev and gearbox with 3yrs/100,00mile warranty for less than the lexus
  8. lol, I said period not stock :no2: They had 350 chevs and metallic blue paint back in the 60's (granted they didnt run 17"s but I'm leaning much more towards 15"s) I shall rephrase the previous statement, Imagine u had a crown ute 2 do up in the 60's/70's. If u had a little money and some brains you would probably run a chev/ford/mopar V8, lower it, give it a respray, add a nice set of wheels and maybe some accesories (mooneyes rocker covers, extractors etc) the modern bits I'm doing are probably the brakes, the suspension, the p/steering rack and A/C and after getting a few prices I'm going with the chev, after the prices i got today i just can't justify the 1UZ. I mean i can get a full turnkey 350 chev crate motor, auto, extractors and sump with warranty, for a little more than a 1UZ half cut. With the chev, i know it will fit, its way easier 2 wire (wich would u rather wire up kebin, a carby 350 chev or a lexus motor?) and other than that all i need 2 do is fabricate engine mounts, get a tailshaft, and sort out the exhaust pipes from the extractors back. With the 1UZ i have 2 fabricate mounts, extractors, wire it up, tailshaft, sump and thats if it even fits (neatly) in the crown. Jake, I'm getting the rona wags running shortly and getting all that crap out of kurts (well into the other paddock 2 be picked up anyways) and I'm keeping the utes at simons mums for the moment. When the wags is running i'll be getting the 2 utes and getting everthing together to make 1 good 1 and seeing exactly what ive got. Then the ute will be going 2 the olds to be worked on. This will be a slow projet coz i still have a rolla 2 work on and I'm not a millionaire but i'll try and keep everything i do heaps more detailed than the rolla build i did Also, shut up jake :bash:
  9. Yeah, that white pic is off the mooneyes site, Ive been looking around and as stated above, looks like I'm gonna have 2 sign up 2 toymods. also, i was thinking of more pros and cons for the 350 crate versus 1uz not just someone yelling "1UZ" over and over, lol I'm thinking, the 350 will be fresh and new, the 1uz will not, the 350 will be simple to wire, the 1UZ will cost a fair bit to wire in, the 350 fits easily, the 1UZ does not, and the 350 crate has more grunt but only just. on the other hand, the 1UZ is cheaper (but the wiring isnt) and is jap, i really would like a 1UZ so we'll have 2 see
  10. need any suspension work done? i can do that, it'll have 2 be a sleep over affair tho, i aint driving down from bathurst, working on a rolla all day and then driving home
  11. I found a pic of the model ute i have and what i want it 2 look like
  12. Well, i finally sold the MS65 crown that i had (the green one on the wisemans radrollaz cruise) and reduced my car count to 3. I could have that so I've bought 2 60's crown utes. One has got a decent body (well i find that out for sure when i pick it up) but not much else and the other is running, has full trim (which is in resonable condition) and everything else but also comes with a massive rust hole. I'm hoping i can make one decent ute out of 2. Plans at the moment include: Brakes that actually stop, i don't know how so many people lived thru the sixties knowing me, probably a fair few suspension mods. I'm already thinking drop spindles and a 3-4 link and coils in the rear a retrim, nothing massive, i want it looking period as possible so hidden A/C, stereo bench seat and column shift auto a respray, I'm thinking either a nice clean white or a really dark metallic blue wheels, either something fat and with dish in 15" or something old school in 17" that sits right in the gaurds engine, something with 8 cylinders, I'm toying with the idea of either a 1UZ or a 350 chev crate, jury's still out on that 1 auto, diff (LSD) power steering rack (steering boxes suck balls) I have a few questions for the old school techies out there, No. 1 can anybody think of a metric ar that has a column shift auto that i could adapt 2 fit the crown? like the whole column No. 2 can anybody thing of something that has a double wishbone front end and a rack? or, alternatively, a car that has a rack and stupidly long steering arms? and before anybody asks, no i don't have pics yet, i will by the end of the weekend thoughts?...
  13. Wicked cruise, shame about the weather (altho some people seemed to enjoy it :hmm: ). Sorry i didnt get a chance to take you for a run kebin but rain pretty much means that i may aswell walk
  14. lol, nah, just rust repair sections and a tool kit :y: I'm definately goin on this one, I'll even hit the rolla up with my patented WD40 polishing techniques (i love flat paint) :hmm:
  15. Lol, if i do come (which is looking likely atm) I'll be in the black beast. I just gotta get a wheel alignment, redo the rear lower coilover mounts and I'm set. Depending on how lazy I'm feeling i might put the front beaver and lip on aswell but I'll have to see with that one. If i do come I'll take you for a run (gotta put my money where my mouth is hey :-P) Also, as a side note, i got the boot open on that corona, clean as with an original spare and toolkit :-P
  16. Funny you should say that, i actually got the koni guys to check some stats for me when i was researching stuff and their adjustable mr2 rear shock (the koni yellows) are actually quite well valved to suit a 6kg spring. Just a bit of food for thought there
  17. I'm hoping so As of tonight all the new gear is in, i have no idea how it handles yet tho i havent set the hieghts or the shocks yet or driven it so we'll have 2 see. The trick rear lower mounts i made up ended up being a massive bucket of fail so ive done something else that I'm not entirely happy about. No pics at the moment as its dark, cold, wet and I'm showered
  18. I may be able to come to this, i will have the new suspension sorted by then but i have a horrible feeling i have prior commitments that weekend. I'll say maybe for now
  19. No beau doesn't :y: And no I'm not putting up piccys of the front yet because: A) it looks shitty without paint B) I don't have them atm C) I don't have any pics yet, and D) shut up :) I made up the last little bits today, the paint is drying on them as I type this. The rear lower suspension mounts are done, all thats left now is to assemble everything when my painter friend gives me my struts back, weld the lower rear mounts into the car and install everything. Lower rear mount pics, Assembled: Disassembled:
  20. Yeah, i used to do the pressure washer thing and whilst it cleans it pretty good, it didnt take off the shitty marks that it had accumulated. Hence WD40 :D With the bonnet latches, i used to have that type ages ago but they tend to look shitty really quickly, i was thinking something along the lines of these:
  21. It sounds silly, but u know those stupid list thingos you get off the net that tell you all the things that a product can do that its not designed for? Well theres one of those lists for WD40 and it said that it could rejuvinate matt paint, so i gave it a go as i thought mine looked a little tired and low an behold, it worked. You just squirt a little WD40 into a rag and rub it on like polish, give it a minute and then wipe it off and it comes up like new, gets rid of all the marks n crap. With the bonnet pins, I'm think of doing something a little different there, not coz of the look, more coz I'm tired of the little cables wearing through the paint on the leading edge of the bonnet. Thanks for all comments
  22. Ok, i've been busy assembling everything for trial fitting and the like and ive set all the hieghts and whatnot. Here are some pics of what ive been up to. these first 2 are the welded and unwelded versions of the rear tubes the first pic here shows how the adjustment thing i made up works when everything is assembled, if that allen key is turned it adjusts the bottom (bump) adjuster, and the last pic shows the machined rear strut top components These are exploded and assembled views of the rear coilovers and all the bits i made, almost seems a shame to paint them
  23. Thanks man, and before anybody asks, no i will not be making any of this stuff for anybody else. Unless i buy a lathe
  24. Progress: Today i got to play on the lathe and mill again, i made up some new rear strut tops machined the top hats to suit the konis, made some front wheel bearing spacers, cut all the strut tubes down ready for welding and mde up my rosejointed panard bar. Tomorrow i get to pick up the CNC'd rear coilover bottom mounts and then all my machine work is done for a while.
