  2. Hey Matty, yep radiator in,have had the car running tho i have the trans lines looped at end with hose.Need to buy some hose to fit both lines to lower tank.....all seems good with radiator cheers.
  3. Hey carbonboy.... Well more so fed into dash lights for green wire that yes does run to illuminate the gear selctor, that one wasnt the problem i was worried about. More so my lack of knowladge on the neutral safety switch wire up....on old valiants i have had many years ago...when neutral safety switch didnt work and couldnt be stuffed getting under car to change, just ground a wire(s) too the body from memory at presto start in any gear.. Tho my thoughts bit not right for my daughter and pass roadie...lol. Cheers Teza40
  4. Ha ha ha yeah i hear you on the smack across the ear, for not taking time to learn manual...well done for your tenacity with your daughter. Believe me so frustrating that she gave up....and made more work for me....oh well maybe one day she will wake up! A huge thanks on the compliment of work done...has been a long winded excercise but the end is in sight...bit of a ball breaker to get stuff right, tho is always the way with old cars... have to keep reminding myself NOT BUILDING A SHOW CAR lol. Fingers crossed it survives 18 year old behind the wheel... Teza40
  5. Ahhhhh ok, i see what i had done wrong...need to cut the wires and make break in circut...doh...give me rust repairs n panel n paint any day.. Thanks heaps for that extra info altezzaclub..will get on it sunday hopefully .. Regards Teza40
  6. Alrighty....as of now I'm on two weeks off from work (holiday....hardly)...have to get this thing done. So saturday 12-1-2013....happy birthday mum.....along with more work done,Ugly front apron made to look decent enough - left front fender now all dressed up in wild violet and left rear quarter given a few coats also.all straight off the gun (clear coat comes much much later). Sundays task are to get sill panels finalized and get right rear quarter and hopefully bonnet done in wild violet... Wednesday i should have my daughters at my place.....about time...some hands to help put the ke38 back together- body wise at least :). Enjoy the pics Teza40
  7. Thankyou altezzaclub, Perhaps going by last couple of replies, i need to splice one BW from neutral switch to BW ignition switch.....then do the same with power for reverse lights .....then the other BW & Light blue/red link together.....seems strange but hey I'm lost on electrics mostly... Regards Teza40
  8. Hey Medicine_Man.... Ok so today i got a chance to look into this neutral safety switch deal a bit more, going by the diagram you posted up for me the BW wires (which there are two off) from the switch only need to be spliced into the BW wire coming from the ignition switch? So i cut the two BW wires from switch pigtail and spliced open the sheath exposing the BW wire from igniton switch...still cranks in any gear.....so then the two L (light blue) - Red wires i spliced similar into the matching colour coded wire from ignition switch.....still cranks in any gear... So obviously I'm doing something wrong perhaps.... Included photos.....any thoughts or help much appreciated.. Regards Terry
  9. Work done over the last few days, only a few hours here n there during the week before going to regular suck job. Fixed the top outer corners of the tailgate, gave a little lick of the wild violet.Have bogged bogged n more bog n sanded sanded back the areas around the new repairs for side windows... Not as good as i want them yet tho getting there....as they say everything looks good from a distance.. Also started the wild violet intrusion into the rear inner metal work of passenger/cargo area of the van.. Enjoy Teza40
  10. Thankyou Medicine_Man....see how i go with it.... Regards Teza40
  11. Thankyou.....Amazing the amount of things that have needed attention on this old girl for sure..if it aint done right this time it wont last too long..
  12. So true...at nearly 48....don't think i will grow up too much lol
  13. Cheers Medicine_ Man, Yes the shifter came complete with the mentioned inhibitor switch and the wirring/long pig tail with green plug. My guess is wires for neutral switch and reverse lights...pretty sure has 4 wires ( can check this).. Is there a electrical schematic for ke series starter circut on this forum? Old bloke like me needs as much help as possible with auto electrics lol Regards Teza40
  14. Hello to all that are knowladgeable on the thing i hate the most about cars - Auto electrics!!! As title states,at my daughters request and her lack of paitence and understanding to learn/drive a manual.I have fitted a 3 speed tri- hard- matic to the ke38 panel van... Car still retains manual wirring loom and currnetly as of today starts without neutral safety switch set up,now normally that wouldnt bother me if it was to be my car and it also didnt have to go for a Qld roadworthy. So to all the cluey auto electric lovers out there....where can i or how do i splice into loom to make this conversion 1....safe for my daughter 2......legal to pass roadworthy... Cheers for any help Teza40 Terry
  15. Hi, Thankyou B.L.BUB,Trev and Clapped Out. Yes trev i try not to be a serial posting pest lol,had been a while since anything worth posting up- sure didnt like the loss of 5 months of working on this due to shoulder surgery=making up for lost time now tho. Todays effort-side window metal replacement-original metal had loads of pin hole rust in the flat sections near where the rubber seal fits.So fix it was on the cards for sure. Enjoy Teza40 evry year i ask myself- how old is too old to be still messing with cars :)
  16. More pics, very happy with the way the custom tailgate came out finally!! There was some work in it to make it so straight....being a dark colour i have tried to get the whole car as straight as possible...some places bit wobbly but meh...it is destined to live outside everyday in the hands of my daughter...and so far as I'm concerned..there is no such thing as perfection for a daily driver...
  17. Hi...has been a long while since last post on this, have had a huge stroke of luck recently. My daughter (who this is being done for) got a loan of $500 from her mother ( x wife of mine),this has allowed me too move forward on this project nicely . So far purchased a new black carpet from a memeber on here, 4 litres of wild violet metallic paint and thinners for the job, pair of new door rubber seals, radiator for the auto and rear bar brackets from clapped out another member on here, with a small amount left to purchase side window rubber and a auto brake pedal pad. Yes i have still been spending my dollars on it where needed....lol..... At time of posting this- right front fender-both doors-tailgate and roof are painted, still more rust section repair work to do around side windows (this weekend 5-6th) and some small repair work on the left fender before finalise paint on rear 1/4`s and sills, bonnet inside and outside along with the left fender. Leaving car until after roadworthy/rego for clear coat-due to a small bit of custom paint i wish to do on it... Will be a busy time end of this month to get this done...and on the road.. enjoy the pic`s
  18. Cheers Bowler n Ninja-philbo for the comments, self taught on the welding skills and far from perfect but a grinder fixes all....lol.... So today some more rust removal and metal replacement....left lower rr 1/4....... enjoy the pics
  19. Long time since last updates...So after not being able to work on this ke38 or any cars for the last 5 months after shoulder surgery, I'm back into finally over the last couple of weeks.... Daughter currently getting to the end of her time on learners, started out in a manual but said was too hard for her so went auto and has been punting an old 6 cyl auto vp commodore around...so as dad`s do they bend to the wishes of daughter and yes i purchased an auto conversion along with another diff from the undertaker (chris) out darra way. So out with engine n 5 speed (grumble grumble...why can't she learn manual ggrrrr lol),tidy up and lick of the ford wild violet paint in the engine bay....mmmmm pretty and purple is not gay!..did a rattle can gloss black on the bolt on stuff like brake booster, the plennum chamber cover plates wiper motor yadda yadda etc etc...engine back in with auto bolted up pedal box changed etc..still need to fit auto factory shifter up tho.. Currently finally back onto the tailgate, has a light lick so far on innerside with wild violet, still massaging the outside skin to make it nice for the dark colour or it will look shit if left ugly..Have painted the tailgate opening tho need to make still a new metal rail for the rubber seal to sit over across the bottom it was fairly rusty so took it off... With dollars still being an issue to throw at this project I'm back doing what/when i can along the way..plan is to have it ready for Emma`s 18th in feb 2013...fingers crossed. enjoy the pics Terry
  20. Yes sure is a bugger when the job/ruthebuild gets bigger, but rather do it right or proper as i go,the old girl deserves good preservation for the future...lol...if my daughters lived with me they would well the eldest who wants this car possibly in the future waould be getting her hands dirty..but they live with the ex wife south side of brissy and i don't see them often..oh well.. few more pics of the work done.. later Terry
  21. Hi just a quick update...still slowly going along with this old girl...lack of cash flow slows up progress. Daughter has also decided manual a bit too much for her to learn in,wants to go auto for learning,so after easter she might have another car already an auto as I'm not keen on swapping the 5 speed out.. Been concentrating on the rust in the left side and in the plennum chamber...no wonder i was getting drenched feet in the qld down pours...can one say...big rusty holes after 30 years of water n dirt living inside... Also redid the lower part of the tail gate as i wasnt happy after heat from mig repairs made the bog lift... So good ol ke38 not dead n forgotten just waiting paitently for progress Later Terry
  22. Just a few more pics of rear pan being made, the process of how it happens with caveman tools and a little knowladge and lots of determination to build it.C section channel to replace rear bumper for any unfortunate future impacts. So much fun building in steel :))) Enjoy Terry
  23. Hi all...Ok bit the bullet and went this week and bought a sheet of zinc steel 2.4 x 1.2 mtr x 0.75 thick, cost $73.00 plus another $20.00 to have panels cut to sizes i need... So today started making the rear pan,its coming along nicely .yes it is short and isnt hiding the spare wheel yet...have to add another 100mm-150mm to it and roll it under to look better. Also made a cardboard template for the side windows to be covered, will be a bolt in affair and will be fitted once my daughter is much more experience with driving this old girl.. Enjoy the pics.. Terry
  24. Hi ya...have been working away on different sections of body work on the van, tailgate, right front fender(lower gaurd section replacement) and the right door lower section rust repair. Next on the adgenda is the rolled pan at the rear,in queensland if you remove the bumpers and replace with rolled pans and or fibreglass front you need to replace the bumper with something substaintial for accident purpose...stay tuned for this in the future... For now tho here is a few sketches of what i hope the finnished van will be like,or close to it... Enjoy Terry
  25. Hi to all, Well put a fair bit of time into this tailgate last week and its coming along nicely,a few little fix up here and there with welding it in.At the bog and sand smooth stage now,I'm try to get it as flat as possible due to the fact of dark colour being laid on the body...A 90 degree square of large and long size comes in handy for search for highs and lows over the span of surface.... enjoy pics later Terry
