HI 2 ALL. Ok peoples I'm a mopar fan a chrysler person and yes i do have the ke38 corolla panel van and 87 toyota 4 runner and the 57 vauxhall ute under some sort of re construction at times. So just recently a mate of mine found a 38 chev sedan in Adelaide, asking price was 12k he got it for 6.6k. running and registered. Its on its way to me very soon for a strip back to bare metal some rust work and a re paint ( in 2 tone burgundy and champange metallic). Ok so i start lookin as we start talking cars etc,and bugger wouldnt you know it,I see this 38 dodge sedan in black also in Adelaide, running registered etc, asking price $15,950. Out of my reach i thought too myself.4x4 is on personal loan yada yada yada. so i send the guy an e mail asking what would be his lowest aceptable offer on the dodge.he rings me and says i have had it here on the lot for 3 months.Make me an offer, ok i says subject to getting finance between 12-13k. He was happy with that,so off to the bank and i get money pay out the 4x4 etc. ring the guy back talk and get the dodge for 11.5k. so now 7 years debt and a real nice original 38 dodge sedan to go with my mates 38 chev sedan and happy ever after.lol enjoy the pics cheers teza40 the 38 dodge the 38 chev

HI 2 all, Ok so i have been a bit quiet lately with the working on cars, have done some more metal replacement panel making for the left side of the ute around a month ago. Last week end i headed out there and brought the dash back to work on at home (getting bored) and yes lack of money does that to most people, the dash has been stripped back to bare metal and primed so far.have a small bit of rust to fix but later,as you can see by the first pic the dash has a nice looking dress plate between the speedo and the dress trim on the passenger side. The large rectangle hole is the original glove box spot (glove box lid rusted out as it was on the ute cabin floor for many years) with ash tray on the left and heater controls on the right of it, these are going to be deleted as are the ciggie lighter and the igniton barrel. Ok for the interesting bit,as this is a now 51 year old car it didnt come with much in the way of gauges for information of whats happening while the car is in motion. So its up date time,I'm using 2 inch speco white faced sport series gauges in the tacho, fuel, oil pressure, water temp and amps and will use the sport series 85mm km/h speedo also with white face.as of so far i have 3 of the 2 inch gauges out of the 5 i plan to use so far cost of $75.00 the fuel guage and sender unit cost is $80.00 and the tacho cost is $90.00 and the speedo...well i will find out later could be scary the cost. I have decided that for a bit of class i will use timber for a facia to set the small gauges into between the original speedo and dress trim (see pics). The rest of the dash will be painted in burgundy/maroon colour as per the cars main outer colour. AHhhh thats better not bored now. Cheers Teza

HI 2 all, Just had a little play on paint program on computer, doing some design ideas for the custom front for the vauxhall velox ute. the original grille set up 1957 the s series valiant twin lights mounted up n down with original grille in a new opening as per the last pic but with a fc-e holden grill the ultimate would be a 53-4 desoto tooth grille butthey are rare too come across and expensive. Mmmmm engine final choice is a long way off yet,but modernish in old car yes worth thinking about. Cheers Teza
-
Yes i reckon i have most times on caboolture river road if i remember right.if not I'm sure i will come across you sooner or later.not a big place morayfield.
-
HI,ok cool thats neat and thanks for clearing up the mystery.I have the silver ke38 panel van that get s around in morayfield, will give a wave next time i see her.and hopefully one day one of my daughters will take the ke38 off my hands and drive it...in the next 5 or so years maybe.. plan too keep the car in the family as it has done so now for around 24 yrs. cheers Terry

HI,most likely a gasless mig welder from kennards hire or something like that.unfortunately i don't have the ready neddies of cash to buy one for keeps at present.they do a reasonable job from my experience and are easy to learn in a quick time (sure ya blow holes, but hey you learn to fill them quickly). Thanks for the encouragement Raven and good luck with you rolla, its worth it. cheers Teza

HI 2 all Just a quick update with a few pics of recent work, right side replacement metal made and temporarily fitted tot the body awaiting the hire of a mig welder and more of my time to work on the ute.Yes the quarter panel lower sill does meed morework to make it meet the very lower sill panel line(will do more forming of shape whilst welding) Left side the worst of the rust so far removed and awaiting again my time to make replacement meatal panels (sill panel, etc),some rust removed from across the top of the ute bed also. Was down there bit more recent and did a mock up of the front sheet metal (for more inspiration on this project, lol) to take progress pic`s for maybe next stage of work the custom front. Enjoy Cheers Teza

HI 2 All,yes it is very sad news. I myself worked at the tonsley park plant from 1985 to 1994,i saw the end of the sigma and the colt, the arrival of the magna. In the early 90`s little would most people know or realise mitsubishi made the tooling dies for the wide body camry (mainly the outer body panel dies). My father worked in the same plant when it was the mighty chrysler australia, and i must conceed the two companies came to the same crushing end mainly because of the wrong choice for the australian public market. Tho thats no reflection that the vehicle was or is a piece of shite.the cm valiant was also long in the tooth cosmetic upgrade, but fuel prices had a lot to do with its demise also.it was mentioned have you driven the 380 or any mitsubishi product, well yes i havein 1992 i was given the then current magna to take home from the factory and test drive with the family (sales pitch,so they were already stuggling a bit i guess then). Now i am not and never will be a huge fan of front wheel drive cars (but each to their own),this magna was the four cylinder model, well appointed for its time and a real farrkin pleasure to drive. i have driven a front wheel drive car at its most rawest form,a mini moke ( a trailer body with an engine up front as far as I'm concerned) and toyota seca 92 hatch (girlfriends car). I believe if mitsubishi had continued to make rear wheel drive mid too large sized vehicles the ywould have had a better chance of survival. I myself blame the government (for letting cheap arse imports into this country) and yes global economy and the ordinary joe`s inubility to afford (because of low income etc etc) vehicles of today. a funny memory i have from days gone by,when i met my now ex wife, her father said to me"do you work",my reply was yes i work for mitsubishi motors at tonsley park.To which he replied "well you got it half right" he said you work for the japs but at least you have a job, I wish those 930 or so people that will lose their job and long term livley hood all the best, because it is not that easy for some to just go out and get something better.Adealide is and has always relied on its car industry, many spin off supply companies will also have a down turn now.like teneco at lonsdale etc. Yes i live in Queensland and yes i was was born and raised in Adelaide, tis a sad year and a loss of a decent motor company. Cheers Teza

Hi 2 all, well friday 25-1-2008 i was intending on heading out too ipswich and work on the vauxhall ute for a couple of days. That plan was put aside as my girlfriend was not well on thursday and seeing as she is suffering the odd dizzy spell at the moment,to stay in the good boy books.I think best to be around to look after her. Even tho she manged to go off and work friday,i managed to install the grey carpet and console from the A101 diahatsu appluase wreck (i have mentioned wanting to use the front seats also, thats for another day and a few modifications to make them bolt in on the corolla floor). Ok so the carpet is a poor fit and needs cleaning, but it looks better than the original tan vinyl floor mat.and the console even tho intsalled not flat on the hump, but how i wanted it to sit. Is a vast improvement over no console and the ra40 celica one i had there, this is an ongoing project and not looking for perfection as it is a daily driver on a very regular basis.(very cheap on fuel is why) enjoy the pics Cheers Teza

ROFL thanks Dougy, well ummm yes it is a little different (go on dare to be different) sorry little voice in my head telling me..lol. I hope that this year it will all come together and people will be able to see the overall effect i have in mind for the van, next on the list is the door trims a grey carpet from the appluase wreck the console and i hope the front bucket seats from the same vehicle. The purple takes a bit to get used too after the tan colour being there so so long. Cheers Teza

Ok, so as mentioned previously.the interior was too get some purple, yep purple well today i did the dash top which was ugly and cracked in a few places. It now has been padded with some wadding and purple velvet. and the tan plastic has been primed and sparyed with indigo (purple metallic) powers plus paint. So welcome to a real 70`s van style interior...lol More work still too do,but getting there. enjoy cheers Teza

I digress a little, but what about all the other aussie muscle cars that have met a similar fate.my favourite would have to be an E49 RT 6 pack charger, ooohhhh too think how many originals of those are no longer with us. not to mention monaros toranas valiant pacers etc. most of which 25 years ago were worth next too nothing and as was mentioned (supply and demand unfortunately blew the affordability out of the water). long live the old aussie muscle car heritage..

Man thats a shame, not that I'm into fords but these old cars a re slowly getting less and less.Looked to be a real neat resto job even if not original GT.so many clones around now its to the point it don't matter. Like 7 shades said..no biggie he has another shell, just rebuild. The parts are available ( more after market stuff for them now than there was original parts back when new,lol ) yes i hope all were ok on some ones special day, what a pisser.
-
Hey thanks guys, yes each to their own on how they do things and what they do on their cars. Cheers for the comments Teza

Hey Jon, removed shag pile cos its so outdated and old n dirty looking.fair comment on the tool box and yes i did look at doing it the way you suggest. But hey its a van and with the seat folded down i have shit loads of carrying space,I thought the space in the middle would be to narrow so i put it too one side and the tool box as shown in the pic can be opened without fouling on anything so as not to be removed from the cargo space if not needed. thanks for the comments, maybe ideas for your wagon hey

ok monday 14-1-2008, Effort on the van,as mentioned new false floor. No more tool box and trolley jack slide all over the rear having a party with my sometimes wild driving.lol. so a new supprt frame was made under the MDF board,42x19mm runners to supprot the raised floor.board cut in two sections and made as close fit as possible around wheel arches etc. (NO HOLES) where drilled into the middle part of the cargo floor.(THE FUEL TANK LIVES UNDER THERE) only in the two runners at front and tail gate end of the cargo area are fixed to the steel floor. The runners are screwed to the mdf sheet only..this may be a handy hint for others.would hate some one to stuff a good fuel tank. So far this interior re-bop has cost around $75.00 cost break daown 2mtr x 1.4mtr grey vinyl @ spotlight $39.90 2x 1830mmx915mmx3mm mdf board $15.00 3x 42mmx19mmx1.8mtr timber lenghts $6.57 1x 500ml tin glue $9.70 1x 50 qty screws $3.95 Still have approx 2mtr x1.5mtr marine carpet to get at around maybe $40.00 This little project has turned out as i would hope and has given me something to do on 3 days off.aint that whats cars is all about.and to do it yourself is even better. enjoy the pics and stay tuned, when more money is available the front gets done Cheers Teza
