Hi 2 all, well last week end i went out on the friday to the ute in ipswich and did a little bit more work on the old girl. i say a little bit cos friday was the only day out of four that i worked on her.saturday and sunday were spent in the middle of nowhere around 120 kilometres from warwick on a mates property.man its nice to get away from the rat race, you could hear a pin drop. bloody cold at night though sleeping in the 4x4..but a good time away just the same..anyhow`s back to the ute,i now have the front sheet meatal stripped off and the front and rear screens out. the rubber was so hard i used my 4 inch grinder to cut just under the glass and then picked the rubber overlaping the glass off (don't want broken screens) will be hard to replace. that daggy old roof linning hanging down was hidding a nice suprise, there sits still in place the original interior light base and non cracked lens.fantastic for a 50 year old car i reckon. next trip out i hope to get the body off the chassis, well whats left of it at the moment. i also won on e bay a set of S series valiant headlight surrounds that along with RA40 celica twin round headlight s and mounts will be frenched into the fron gaurds of the ute. enjoy the pics cheers teza40

HI 2 all. For sure as hell its a great idea.there seems to be a few of us in this world of rollaclub that have the hidden talent of drawing the ideas in our head or as mentioned being able to photoshop in real pictures our ideas. I for one am guilty of said talent on more than one occasion on here..he he he he.. it may not interest every one,but some real cool schemes and styles for future rolla and non rolla projects could be worked out on here without the huge cost of materials.. my 10 cents worth cheers Teza

WOW guys,I'm impressed. hey 7 shades yep i like that old plymouth custom (troy trepainer custom, wasnt it).and yes a smooth look with mercedes head lights.. Mikey now you`re talking my style.twin upright head lights work well also i think. i am currently watching on e bay.valiant s series front head lights complete (surrounds, lamps and backing plates) should do nicely. cheers Terry
-
HEY Mikey, like wow man ,very nice job on the drawing..good too see it has some peoples creative juices flowing.love the lakes pipes under the sill panel. Yes i owe you..although I'm sure going for a more custom look, not too radical but would like to take some of the original vauxhall design out of the look of the car.. cheers and once again, nice job! Teza
-
Hey 7 shades, Thankyou for the encouragement on frenching evrything.yes i agree it looks the boss on an old car...Seems the way too go. cheers Teza

HI,I'm not at present time.i have heard of this site and yes thanks ,they could be of help in the future. the old girl is pretty far gone and parts will be hard to find,so i think i will go custom with this rebuild. eg sunken headlights (twin set up from ra40 celica, cos i have them) maybe straight up and down or canted (not sure yet).sunken front indicators, radiused bonnet edges. i have a set of new brake lenses from an austin a90 (lol) along with a similar style indicator lens for the back will make them sunken into the body also. long way to go,but for now.... thanks teza

enjoy the update people...

Hi 2 all. ok took the panel van on the run out to ipswich too work on the vauxhall ute,I'm impressed by the difference the extra gear makes.it doesnt wheeze to 120 km/h now. although don't seem to have as much wind out power in first gear as the 4 speed(gear ratios in the box i guess),5th gear is noisy as i was told. should check and top up oil in the box i guess, one of those things i didnt worry about the other day.now i need to quiet down the exhaust (sounds like a stock car)oh well another day..lol as for the hole around the shifter,i now have a piece of sheet metal nicely cut and the shifter hole a neat fit with it sealed up from exhaust gases etc. with a good rubber boot and the celica console finally secured properly. cheers Teza

HI 2 all,ok so the ideas are spinning around in my head now. today they traveled down my arm onto paper (the cheap way to see what ideas will look like). as previously mentioned the front was goin to be custom,so here is the first few ideas.. black one has each headlight with its own frenched opening, the red one is of the open type full frenching.ala 60`s style as seen on many fj holdens back then.i have decided that straight up and down is hte way to go.with h a 54 desoto grill the preffered option. what do you think HI 2 All again, well i have rambled on about this vauxhall ute in other parts of my topics. and just to shock every one and show that it really does look like a $61.00 car, i have put a few pics up. yes its one hell of job in front of me,but hey its a 50 year old car this year. it was originally rescued from a creek by one of the son`s of the people i got it from out on a farm in the darling downs of queensland, he started on it and then it sat in the paddock for the last 10 years.just going out there and getting it on the trailer was a big job. 3 out of 4 wheels locked up had to snatch strap drag it onto the trailer (did`nt want my head taken off if the wire cable from the winch let go),and then the said strap around a huge tree and reefed the trailer after several attempts out from under the ute ( its a heavy old pommie vehicle). oh by the way the wheels freed up after that kind of abuse..lol,had a smoking and slipping clutch on my toyota foruner 4x4 tho.. and now hard work and fun begins for like...the next 10 years of rebuild.. mmm i feel a 265 hemi 6cylinder engine, auto or manual and may be a centura disc brake diff.with the car drenched in bmw burgunday metallic paint..sorry dreaming at the moment. enjoy teza40 HI 2All again, well yes the crazy and brave one has just returned from a couple of days (not full days) working on the ute. so here`s the low down, started to strip the rust more than paint off the bonnet.found the rust gremlin had been feeding on the underside of the bonnet frame and got a bit disheartend with it,so did a little bit and thought leave it for now. so turned my attention to the guards with more success (although there is more work to do on them) they now look fairly decent.late tuesday afternoon i was taking the left door off and had a bit of a struggle, end result the door is off but i now have a purple and black little toe on my right foot (ummm broken would describe it better, man it hurt big time). would post a pic but it may scare people...lol check out the other pics cheers

hi 2 all, spotted this morning around 9.30 am. a yellow ke70 panel van with the flat black drift bonnet paint job on morayfield road going past spotlight,i was on foot going to the bank. good to see vans around and the first time i have seen this one. and who is the little lady running around morayfield, in the blue rolla sedan with the big wheels and chrome rolla sticker on the back window.very nice looking rolla, the lady too young for me..lol cheers teza
-
HI Ya Jae,thank you.well yes paint scheme would be good next and still to come, just too busy driving the panel van as a daily driver. also with the recent purchase of a 1957 vauxhall ute for $61.00 ( and yes it looks like $61.00 car ),time only goes so far on 2 weeks holidays. don't hold your breath but i will get around to a neat paint scheme on the van. cheers teza
-
HI YA. Firstly thank you, well so far i have only test driven it around the block.personally ithink the shifter position is much better now and i have no troubles with fouling the handbrake at all. i have had the car up too 80 km/h so far and found no wobbles, shakes or strange noisies.the gearbox may be a bit noisy but hey, beggers can't be chosers. i sure hope your conversion goes as good as this did,all the best. cheers

HI 2 All, Well on holidays, and after going to get the 1957 vauxhall ute from out near warwick in queensland. and the fun of getting back to a friends place at booval in ipswich ( big job this one will be), i thought i better get around to the 5 speed conversion in the panel van. SO Sick of the 4 speed and the engine sounding like it will blow up at 100 km/h over long distances up and down the bruce highway, gateway and ipswich motorway,( yes i drive this car hard and very often, cheaper on fuel than the four wheel drive ). well today ( friday 15th june,it was D day to do it ).so out came the 5 speed first from the ke38 wagon i purchased earlier this year, then put the panel van up on ramps and stands. out came the 4 speed gearbox that has lived and got this car around for 28 yrs nearly (yep factory box.lol), cut the new hole for the 5 speed box changed over the thrust bearing from the 4 speed to the 5 speed (the other one was dry and noisy) and put the gearbox to driving heaven in.the only thing i found trouble with was the gearbox mount ( the guy who did the conversion in the ke38 wagon, didnt use one.BUGGER THAT) i had one and had to redrill holes in the gear box cross member to line everything up eg tailshaft. other than that it all went very well and the whole job from start to end was only 4 and a half hours from the time i pulled the 5 speed out of the wagon and had it the panel van and test driven, other people may do it quicker but hey I'm 42 now and don't like the ground as much as i did 20 years ago. So now on those long trips i can cruise with ease and not fear the 4k going bang...lol, some pics enjoy Teza
