HEY Rolla club members, if ever you are stuck for lenses, tail light indicator etc. there`s a bloke at carrara in the gold coast queensland by the name of Dale Mc shane he runs classic plastic and makes reproduction lenses from good original ones (makes a mould and pours like new with good colour in the plastic). around 7 yrs ago i use to sell chrysler repro lenses made by him.he does a lot of hot trod stuff and usually advertises in the cruising magazine etc. hope this helps people out cheers Teza

Hey Chet, firstly I'm gathering you are a young bloke just starting out,and the test dude is that old he should have given up this job years ago and thinks he knows it all. I'm originally from adelaide (the southern suburbs) and from memory at school zone it is 25 kmh.tho in queensland its 40 kmh. i can't for the life of me understand why he chose to use the argument of speeding up to avoid the tailgater (tailgating or following too close is illegal in the first place),so what he is saying is if every time someone is too close to your rear end speed up and i ask what happens if that tailgater speeds up behind you? do you then speed up more(where would it end....in a dangerous situation is where). in my mind he needs to be reported wether technically he is right or wrong because he sure is hell wrong in the eyes of the law if you speed up and do over the posted speed limit to get away from some one too close and get caught by the police. good luck for next time, and for sure don't ever use or recommend that dude again cheers Teza.....age 41yrs

hey jamie, thanks again for your input. 350 chev for hill climbs.ok how did the guy make it steerable around corners for such use and fun abuse cos that a shit load of weight in a little car (is it mid mounted or close to it). and you just had to know how to power punt a heavy old val around corners (many years of practice and driving vals) lol cheers Teza

HI, I may be wrong but goin by my recent experience on my girl friends feroza 4x4 which boiled over 3 times in one week and was always spewing or losing coolant at a bad rate. may be do a compression test and see if any cylinders are suffering leakdown or poor compression first. but i ended up biting the bullet and taking the head off the feroza and found the head gasket had badly deteriated down the left hand side across the top of the open water jacket in the block, and the head was also eaten away in places on the alloy face. hence new head gasket, good second hand head and other new gaskets. put it back together twice( umm bent 2 inlet valves in pot 4.....lol). the feroza now runs cooler than it has ever done in the last 6 months of ownership. which = one very happy lady and me with more knowledge he he he. oh yeah and engines don't run good with timing on top dead centre,it is mostly running rich because it isnt set in correct advance. cheers Teza

HI 2 All.thanks for your input super jamie, mmmmmmm everyone keeps saying how heavy these 18R engines are..... whilst its only commonsense how much heavier they would be over 4k engine. i can help but wondering how the guys have gone with engineering a corolla to turn with a holden v6 in it? oh well maybe just chuck all the corolla front end away and make up a smaller version of a valiant torsion bar suspension... cheers terry

HI 2 Retrospekt and schnitzel. Firstly thank you ever so much for taking the time to add reply to my questions. Good to see its not a total foolish idea (just getting into playing with these cars). Schnitzel could you please post on here the photos you have or e mail them to me at [email protected], giving this swap consideration as i do have the most expensive part of it all just sitting in the car out the back yard. I'm guessing that not able to use ra4o struts with larger coil spring diameter to help with the extra load of the 18R donk. Thanks again guys for you input. Cheers Terry

HI 2 all.ok i may be dragging a dead horse on this thread...its dated a few months ago. But it is of interest too me,as i have an RA40 liftback with 18R and 5 speeed that i can't seem to get rid of.(for money that is...not give away) So i got thinking has anyone done this conversion into a corolla of ke style? I have been lucky enough to get my nans ke 38 1979 van with the usual motorvation equipment 4k n 4 speed. So has this swap been done and proven or is it a laughable waste of time... open to suggestions and information wether it good or bad... p.s. playin with mother mopars seemed easy 20 yrs ago....lol Cheers Teza

HEY 2 All. Another update on the fixing of the dreaded rust in lower gaurds of the ke38 van. Ok so I'm no welder by trade but the mig i got a lend of is fairly easy to use,i made the patch panels the day before(ready to go). had no major dramas for my experience of welding and now just finish off with bodgie bog. But much better than what was there and will last along time (i hope).....lol.. OK enough from me ....enjoy the pic`s. any comments or questions....go for it.. Cheers Terry

HI 2 All. little update time on the ke 38 panel van.on holidays been n had fun up cooloola beach in my toyota 4 runner for a week. back home and time to get busy with the corolla and its rusty front lower gaurd problem.its amazing they are not as bad as the should be, unbolted the front bar and then the right hand fender a heap of built up dirt and ants fell from behind the lower part of gaurd. heaps of dirt living up under the top part of gaurd also. the left hand side has been off before at some time and was alot cleaner.still the rust affected area is worse on the left gaurd at the bottom, has been done bog boggie before long time ago by me and recently by some one else. so now is time to do it right ( check out the pics ) not welded in yet but patch panels hand cut n shaped close enough to fit by me, i used a ra40 celica windscreen wiper panel for donor metal.( any one intersted in ra40 parts most of the car is here in the back yard).just thought i would throw that out there...lol ok catch ya later

HI 2 ALL,located Brisabane Northside.just a quick hello, and hopefully a picture shown of my free aquired ke38 windowed panel van from my dear ol nan. her ownership of this car .............wait for it.........22 years of its 27 years of life approximately needs a tidy up,runs mechanically very well (she always looked after the car mechanicals)well a mechanic did seeing as she is nearly 84 yrs old. This car has air-con and a station wagon seat fitted (mod plated in adelaide in 1988 for it) so it can carry four people. anyhow`s you guys have a cool club thing going.with a good read of info on these lil corolla`s (sorry I'm a mopar follower mainly) thanks Terry P.S.feel free to leave comments....lol
