Grab some HZ Kingswood spings and chop the crap out of them. They are the right diameter to fit a KE20 strut. If you really want to go crazy, grab the V8 versions. Just be careful as when I did this to my KE20 it would lift the front wheels off the ground over bumps. The front struts really needed to be upgraded to suit.

my high compression, 3KB carbed 5K in a KE35 would average 30mpg (yes I talk real figures :P ) guess around 10L/100km for you uneducated folk, on the highway. Would see a quarter of a tank go really quick if I got excited........ Was too scared to check the consumption of my old club car. Cam, carbs and lotsa revs didnt give good economy. Think over a quarter of a tank in a days comp. Sounds ok until you realise that that would be around 8km... :o Off topic. My old HZ ute, 6cyl auto, used more fuel than my old mans HZ sedan, 4.2l V8 manual, on a trip to Bathurst, and the sedan was towing a camper........... :blinks:

Not 100% sure - my oldest is now 6 and it was well before that I last pulled a 5K apart. All I remember is that there is no adjustment, so I'd assume that the clearance or gap is looked after by the lifter as on any hydrolic cam engine.

:lolcry:
-
Would of called it the other way :P
-
Never had any issues with the 5k's I have had in the past. Anyway, there is no adjustment anywhere in the 5k valve train from memory, so I am unsure how you would adust anything without resorting to machining or making shims etc. And Trev, a 5k is an overhead valve engine, not an overhead cam :P

Cheap and nasty way to clean carby. Swap 2 and 3 plug leads around. Hold foot flat Crank engine Watch it backfire through carby a couple of times Swap plug leads back to where they should be. Oh and make sure you remove the aircleaner before you do this....................

Borgy axles into a Borgy, Salisbury axels into a Salisbury. Both work as long as you don't mix axels with housings.
-
With my reground 5k cam, the standard rockers did the job. From memory it was a Wade 169 grind.
-
Umm, why?????? My 5k would pull 7500+rpm on standard springs. I know it would rev that hard as thats when the shift light would come on.
-
Ring the cam grinder of choice and talk to "the man" if you can, not the receptionist. Sit down and decide what you want from your motor. BE HONEST AND REALISTIC!!!!! Think of how many times you use more than 6000rpm on the street. Can you get away with the thing brapping away at idle with the P plates visible. Etc, Etc........ Give the man this information on what you want and the mods you have done/going to do and let him decide on the grind. Did this with my 5K and was very happy. Didnt get the wildest cam on the market when I was competing, but while the others were bogging down and waiting to come onto the cam I was accelerating away :) Had a 4K where the owner wanted it to make power from 4000rpm and it was almost impossible to drive at times. Would loop you around in the middle of a corner when it come onto its cam.

Driven sensibly, the KE30 diff will handle a worked 5K. It took a 6000rpm clutch dump on dry bitumen to pop mine behind a twin carbed, high comp 5k. If you abuse it, nothing will last long. Mate managed to kill a 9" in his Falcon for example.

Well pole position transferred into a class win on track by around 20 laps and an class win overall with display, design, construction and presentation points added in  Now for some sleep after around 30 hours non stop I feel like :hammer:
-
On pole by a lazy 10.5 seconds  Actually don't know how, it spent most the start of qualifying on its side being repaired :bash: Seriously, how does a back wheel fall out :blinks:
-
Or you could get the later axels shortened about 5mm and slide them into the KE20 housing...... Just need the later brake assemblies.

The question has come up with some of the other teams. KFC supports all of the schools 8 trikes. Actually had Maccas come to us but as we already had KFC we had to say no :(
-
Not of this years frame. Its undergone a serious height reduction this year, over 100mm taken out of the roof. Do have some pics but they are a couple of years old and don't really show much. Personally I don't care where the money comes from. These things cost a heap when you are only funding it through sponsorship.
-
A week to go so a quick update is in order. This is the trike at the moment Going prettty smoothly except for the students stuffing things up :bash: and not telling me....... >|

A 3k-h should have a fuel cut off soleniod on the carby. Mine did anyway. If this is not getting 12 volts when the ignition is on, it will not run properly. Think the 3k-b head had bigger ports and a different cam profile. Maybe even higher compression????? That said, the manifold will bolt up to your head but will not bolt to your exhaust manifold. The bolt positions where the inlet and exhaust manifolds bolt together are usually different. To avoid this, most people run extractors. Roughly you will be looking at a 10hp gain from bolting on the 3k-b carbs. With a cam, compression increase and some port matching it will be more. I never had any issues fitting up the 3k-b inlet and carbs. They were set and forget in my case. Just make sure you find a set that has all the linkages and the aircleaner as without these you need to do a bit of work to get them working. Also be careful with what type of throttle cable the carbies are set up for. There are two types, and they may not suit your current set up, but this can be overcome without too much worry.
-
As above. did it to me once years ago.
-
geez $150 for a glorified motorkhana!!!!
-
Nice machining job :) but why drive both front wheels. Without a diff cornering will be umm...........interesting One of our older trikes just drove the LH wheel without any issues.
-
Think they tried not long ago but had a few issues so went back to RWD. Where I am now has done FWD for years but has gone back to RWD. Even tried rear wheel steer in the past.....
-
Yeah they had special narrow hubs to improve their aero. Now they are making full carbon wheels. Bastards.....
-
Cheers mate. Yeah, Bendigo have some nice stuff, but we beat them in the hybrids last year  but shit did it fly when it was going.
