  1. Very very nice mate - love it!
  2. Hi, I own an ae71 with a locker. It's mainly used for track/drift/spirited driving, so I find the locker to be a good idea, at least untill I save enough to get a decent lsd/lower diff ratio for my t series I have. If your driving your car everyday it will piss you off very very quickly - 3 point turns suck hard in a locked diff vehicle. That said if you are going to compete in any sort of motorsport lock it up, if you're pushing hard on the track I feel an open diff is going to bite you - it is unpredictable and doesn't allow you to properly control a slide. Also after doing a hill climb with an open diff I would never do it again, if your looking to runa decent time you won't do it with an open diff. NOTE: this is what I have found in my travels, I am no expert, but this is what I have foudn works for me. I say weld it up, rolla diffs are cheap and there is nothign stoppping you from putting an open diff back in there
  3. Okie dokie I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say do suspension, brakes and lsd (t series rear end swap) Yes it isn't free but when you do get a tougher motor all the parts are there to cope with it Also if you want more power (I'm assuming you have a 4k here) a small cam, and upgrdaed carby/extractors/exhaust will sneak through, just because its modded doesn't mean it has to be shiny/loud. Strip the chrome off a sports filter and paint it black, paint ur extractors black, etc and noone will be the wiser, just think your car has a miss at idle, lol
  4. Try Paradise Racign in the US, they do a kit for the 4ac of a cam, carb and valve springs, I'm pretty sure you can still buy it all seperate, so they maybe the ones to ask about the valve springs?
  5. Only series 2 t18 (rubber bumper) has swaybar mounts
  6. I paid $220 for the t18 diff I've got. They are worthwhile because they are the same housing as an early ae86 and therefore you can purchase an aftermarket lsd for it. There is no mech lsd available for the borg warner in a ke70. The only other problem your going to have is that you will probably need to get a custom tailshaft made. In the ae71 you can use the front half of an ae86 tailshaft and the rear half of the t18 shaft top make it work but I'm not sure if you can do that as the ke70 will have a k40 or k50 gearbox as opposed to a t50 as found in the ae86/ae71. And you can't just use the rear half of the t18 shaft because it will not bolt to the front half you have. Currently my t18 diff and shaft is sitting gathering dust as I have a locked standard diff in my ae71. What are you using your car for and what engine do you think you will end up with? If your going turbo skip using the t18 diff, if your staying K motor I doubt you will break the t18 diff or your standard diff (unless its locked, but I havent had any trouble with mine yet)
  7. I am aware of the Bosch module. My question was whether or not you could use the map sensor and module from the xf together so that you had the ability to have ignition advance. I'm not familiar with the setup that the falcon uses and where it gets its signal from though
  8. Speaking of the module idea, I read on American site that you can steal a module off of some cars to run the dizzy, like the falcon set up you spoke of. I can't remember what car the American guys got it off, but it wasn't something we got here (a chevette or something I think it was?) but i'm pretty sure that you still ended up with no advance. was cheap as though according to them. Could the falcon stuff be made to work? If its just a module and a map sensor it might be able to be made to work? Would be a cheap way of making it happen instead of spending a fortune on msd/crane ignition set up or even an ignition only computer
  9. I'm doing something similar with my ae71, I'm going to use an MSD 6al, I was reading that it gives you a crude type of advance if you swap the polarity over? If that makes sense. There is a controller you can purchase for it as well that allows advance, the 6al alone is worth about $400 - $500 from memory (ebay ftw), dunno what the controller is called/worth. What size carbs are you going to run? I'm going to use Dellorto dhla40's on a redline manifold. whether or not its cheaper than efi hinges on whether you can tune it yourself and how much you pay for the carbs
  10. Our ra23 celicas came with the 18r standard, so the easiest upgrade is to use an 18rg (twin cam, twin carb) or an 18rgeu (twin cam injected) Ta22 and ra23's are damn sexy cars, I'm thinking of getting one to keep my Corolla company, lol
  11. Name:Nat Car: Peak White ae71 Motor & Driveline: 4ac/T50 hopefully 4age/t50/t-series in the next few months Suspension & Brakes: stock, but changing to ae86 front end soon, stock except for King springs, all getting replaced while I'm off work Wheels & Tyres: 13x6 Cheviot Turbos Interior: Autotechnica steerer and fancy gear knob, otherwise stock, but soon to have Saas seats installed Body: stock and rough Other: been a member here for ages but only just managedto remember my password, I'm Course_Out on ae86drivingclub.com.au and initialdrift.com.au. Bought the beast originally for $500, have been slwoing building up to compete in hill climbs, supersprints and a bit of drifting. Heres some footage of me battling the understeer: And heres a couple of pics, hope you guys like it!
  12. Aaaarrrrrrrgghhhh!!! Not a Centura!!! *scrambles for something to vomit in* Sorry if i offended anyone on here who owns a Centura....... Anyway, back to the "Initial D verus Reality" debate, true drifting is never going to be as fast as grip driving in almost all instances, but i think it really depends on what type of car/surface/driver combination you're looking at. I personally own a Puegeot 206 gti (don't worry I own a corolla too) and I have found that one of the fastest ways to corner in this car is to barrel into a corner and use weight shift to get the back end nice and light and effectively "drift" through the corner so at the exit the car is facing the correct direction. Of course 50 people are now going to flame me and say front drivers suck and that they can't drift...... but u get that....
  13. Ok, thats what i thought. Dammit, they look like so much fun! Never mind me, my taste in cars is a little obscure at times.......
  14. Hey guys! I was just wondering if the kp61 Starlet was ever available in Australia? I'm inclined to think that it wasnt, seeing as how i've never seen one for sale. But i've been wrong before. I keep seeing them on Japanese websites with the flares and the rear wings... and I think they look cool...... feel free to flame me for that comment......
  15. Just one more question while we're all here... If i use a 20 valve motor and the standard ecu does it matter if i use the auto or the manual transmission computer? I've heard some other Toyota auto computers go into limp mode if their is no auto signal. Just the auto half cut is $200 cheaper....
  16. I will get some pics up as soon as i load them onto my computer. Mods so far stand at a set of lowered king springs that came with the car and a set of sprinter 13 inch alloys. It's not very exciting....yet........
  17. I'm from Cessnock in the hunter valley. The only claim to fame is that it has some wonderful winding roads and is somewhat close to Newcastle, ha ha ha
  18. Thats definitely food for thought there grimwolge. I'll definitely look into te 20 valve conversion a bit deeper. Thanks again!
  19. Thanks guys! Ok, so the 4ac is a weaker block than the 4age. my eventual intention was to swap the 4age over to quad throttles if i went efi, and i thought i might possibly be able to get the same effect from carbs without shelling out massive amounts of money programmable efi, surge tanks, etc. Then i thought about the law..... and it was all a downward spiral from there on........
  20. Hey guys, gotta say i love the site! Very good info! Anyways, down to business. I have recently purchased an ae71 5spd with the intention of using it as a hill climb/supersprint/drift vehicle whilst keeping it regoed. I have heard talk of people using weber carbs on the 4age motor and was wondering on the legalities of this? My understanding was that if u installed a motor into a car that wasnt standard all the standard emissions garbage would have to be retained? So, assuming that this isnt possible/legal i was wondering what is the possibility of putting the 4age head onto the 4ac block? Obviously i would treat the motor to a rebuild first, but is it possible? And will the 4ac bottom end be able to cope with the kind of rpm that a 4age can? Also what sort of rpm are webers able to function at? Sorry for all the q's guys, just trying to get my head around it. Thanks in advance! :)
