  1. Ok, seeing the group 2 responses, I had a quick look at the map, taking Bundaberg into account. Melbourne > Sydney/Newcastle = 879 km/1,027 km (I've no idea if there's anything in Newcastle, but navigating Sydney is not fun at the best of times, much less first thing in the morning) Sydney/Newcastle > Bundaberg = 1,289 km/1,146 km Bundaberg > Cairns = 1,354 km All relatively even legs, all doable in a days drive, all down to personal preference. I'll have a GPS to avoid tollways, may make the route slightly longer, but if we're running a convoy and having a giggle we'll hardly notice. Bundaberg won't know what hit it. :P WTF? Tourists? Here?
  2. I'm definitely group 2, never been keen on taking long to get anywhere. I'm in!
  3. .........Crap, just re-read what I wrote, meant Melbourne to Cairns in 3 days, not Brisbane.
  4. I can supply several old keyboards for just such shenanigans. No, I'm not kidding. Now, I've had a thought, specifically for those on a tighter time schedule, or more into the classic road-trip/road-rally thing. Please don't mistake this for a hi-jack, it's just a thought. Everyone meets in Melbourne on whatever the appointed day for leaving is, I'm thinking breakfast here, so pretty early, we can all do final fluid checks, talk some shit, and make last minute plans, then split into two groups. Group one could be the tourers, going through, taking their time, short(er) drives, likely more scenic, more restful, many stops in all the little townships along the way as per the initial plan in the OP. This applies to those with plenty of time on their hands. Group two in this case would be the shooters, making the more traditional mad cross country dash, 3 long legs, one leg per day, only stop for topping up fuel and munchies every couple of hours, and make a straight shot for Brisbane, in car UHF radios would be close to a necessity as the legs would be ~10 hours each, and everyone likes to talk crap over a radio, because it's fun, and frankly, you can only convey so much information through hand signals. :P Barring a major breakdown, should hit Brisbane in 3 days on a fairly conservative run, which would leave more available time for visiting friends/family/RC members, drinking, eating cake, whatever suits. Obviously this would suit those with less time better, or even those who just want to road-trip for a giggle(or a coconut). I'm putting forward this suggestion purely to see what the overall feel is about it, it's pretty half baked, and needs a little improving, but you get the basic idea. Thoughts? /textwall
  5. Fixed for you. Also, I've got the fire covered :jamie: On a slightly serious note, the camping idea appeals, but I have to question the reasoning behind going the inland route? And given the distance, I'm assuming a 3 day run to be easy on the poor old cars? Or are we trying for a new record and allowing the extra two and a half weeks to ship in spare parts for whichever car(s) are broken on the side of the highway? :P
  6. $500 road beater, $1000 fuel, add in whatever food and spending money you see fit, and a flight home, drive there, get your coconut, give the car (or what's left of it) to someone, fly home. Budget cross country road rallies are the best fun. :laff:
  7. If i can swing another cheap road beater, and enough coin for fuel, munchies and a CB radio, I'm in. I want my damn coconut.
  8. Pretty sure they're about 7 inches across, so about 175-180mm give or take

  12. ^^ Mountain Dew Voltage  Ruddy expensive there, we sell it at work for $2 a can, $1.50 when on sale. Although it does look like a servo, which kinda explains it :P
  13. A Skatecycle is nothing more than a pair of Hot Wheels Orbit wheels strapped together with a rubber hose, given than the riding style is exactly the same for both, but with the "hose" in place, I'd bet the Skatecycle is actually harder to pilot than the Orbit Wheels. This is however nothing more than a guess based on using Orbit Wheels. Regardless, you'll have a ball. *Edit* Happy specifically branded chocolate egg day.
