Hey. I just looked up on stud patterns and understand them now... but what do you mean by correct? Correct as in I won't have to get another rim to put on a bigger tyre? Haha I'm guessing and still probably using the wrong words. I couldn't find any info on 8js, 7js, etc. If I went into a tyre shop, what should I ask for if I wanted a tyre a bit wider than the standard ke70? I don't want anything major just a bit wider, and plan later to get mags (if that has affects any of this). Cheers. :P

Yeah I meant skinnier than the pic; so I'd like something wider, chunkier, whatever you call it than what I have now. I don't know the right words for it so what I'm asking for probably doesn't make sense... but basically I want wider wheels like the one in the photo.
-
Ok... maybe I should re-phrase? What wheels would you recommend for a KE70 if I wanted to go a bit bigger?
-
Hey guys. Yeah, so I ditched the idea of a 4AGE conversion since it turns out I have no money. Instead I'm going to do small things to my KE70 whenever I get the cash. I'm thinking about getting bigger wheels.. I don't know if I'm even using the right terminology! Haha. Something like this. I'm looking for something a tiny bit thinner in width.. skinnier? ... Would I need to change anything on the car if I did get bigger wheels? I think they look cool, but I haven't seen any on a ke70 that hasn't been lowered... or atleast I think I haven't. If anyone knows of pictures of a ke70 with chunky wheels that hasn't been lowered, could you link me to it? Also, how much would a set of wheels around this size cost? Cheers. :P

I know this car has changed hands and been sold, but my god if there was one car I'd buy before I died, this would be it. :P
-
Haha yeah I reckon. Cheers and I will don't worry. :P

One day I decided that I wanted a new Corolla in nice condition. So I picked up the Quokka and saw one for $1800. I knew as soon as I saw it that it was in good condition and came back the next weekend to test drive it. I told the guy that I wouldn't pay $1800 and he dropped straight to $1500 and threw in a CD player... Anyway, it's in great condition... the outside and inside are practically spotless except for a scratch to the left side and a tiny tear on one of the door's interior. There are areas that have rust but only a couple. More pictures: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Mods: Interior: Original interior Dashmat Seat covers Boot release/(fuel release not set up) Exterior: T18 front & rear bumpers Engine: 5k conversion Head shaved & ported to 38mm Genie extractors Lukey muffler New 2" exhaust New hose clamps New spark plugs New water pump New radiator New thermostat and housing Oil catch can Transmission: New standard clutch & Spigot bearing Wheels: 15x6 Superlites on 205/50/R15 Planned Updates: Suspension (Lovells lows & KYB shocks all round) Depending on height after lowering, some spacers & guard roll Tinting 5 speed gearbox Audio Alarm Central locking Brakes

Well I'll take your advice and try and keep it until I put the 5k in. After that if everything's running fine it has to go cause I can use that ~1k to improve wheels/paint/tint windows, etc.

If you had made this at like 3 or something I might have been able to come. Unfortunately I'm up in the hills and I start work at 5.30. :)

Oh that's good, I didn't know that. Cheers.

Awesome. :) It's decided then. Haha. Thanks everyone for their input! Without you guys I'd probably be paying $4500 for the wreckers to buy/do a 4AGE conversion. Greatly appreciated.

Budget The ke70 I'm buying is 1500. I have $1300 so I still have to borrow money just to afford the car unfortunately. Skills Can check/refill oil and water, brake fluid, washer fluid, etc. Prettttty basic. Hoping to learn more. Tools Not many... my dads ones basically. No engine crane as I've said before - which is probably the biggest obstacle in terms of tools. Time frame Well, I'm a pizza driver. ATM I'm using the red corolla in my sig. as my delivery car. Once I buy the yellow ke70 I could technically keep it in the garage until Dad started getting pissed. Having two cars means paying two regos... so I wouldn't want to have it off the road for too long. Besides, the quicker I sell my red one the quicker I can afford the 4AGE. That's why I was thinking of the 5k conversion... because it's gonna be quicker.

How can a 4AGE into a ke70 be easier than a 3k to 5k conversion? - Fuel setup - Wiring - Exhaust - Engine mounts - Crossmembers Aren't those only some of the things involved in a 4AGE conversion? I'm not saying I know, I'm just trying to remember some of the things that people have told me I'll need to do... this link for reference. Besides, how much could a 5k engine cost? At the moment (after I buy the new ke70) I'll be broke pretty much so I won't be able to afford a 4AGE for a while.. that's why I thought I may as well get a cheap 5k and possibly 5speed gearbox from wreckers and learn how to do that.
-
Well I think I might just get a 5k engine and modify it. I'll see what happens... but for now it's cheaper and no doubt easier so I can learn at least how to remove an engine.

Yes I definitely have. Keeping in mind though, it's around $1200 to get a corolla transported from the eastern states to perth. That to me is a bit off-putting since I'm paying over 1 grand just to move it. I think I jumped into this thing too quickly TBH. I saw everyone doing the 4AGE conversions and thought it would be cool to have it done, but I always do things on impulse and it's a bad habit haha.
-
Ok, I'll do it. Once I buy the new KE70 I'll start a fresh project thread. Thanks for your encouragement guys. (Y) Edit: I've decided not to do it. :D Hahahaha. I'm gonna pay the $4500 and have the whole conversion done for me (includes ALL parts that will be needed)... unless I find an already done up ke70 in which case I'll most likely consider buying that instead.
-
Just to make sure... I want a Bigport RWD 4A-GE engine (because my car is RWD), don't I? I've been reading the 4A-GE conversion FAQ and I'm starting to get a bit confused with all the different 4A-GE versions. Cheers.
-
I'm all for doing it myself... but like I said, there's a few things stopping me (as well as one I didn't mention): - Lack of engine crane - Scared of stuffing the car up - How do I put a new gearbox in without using one of those lift things? I do have another KE70 that I use for work and can use it until I finish the project... which is a plus like someone somewhere said. I'll ring some importers then I guess? Or should I just go to Ichiban and get it transported to WA? This is why I'm hesitating haha... so much shit that I don't have the answer to. :hmm:
-
I'll take your advice and take it slow with the whole 4AGE thing, but I can't bring myself to not buy this KE70, though. It's just in such great condition... Do you have the link for the modded ke70 or ae71?
-
That's just it though, I don't have any mates helping me. It'd be all me. I have more or less no knowledge of engine parts except for the basic stuff. I'm thinking about just getting all the parts and then taking it to a mechanic so he can't jip me like redspirit suggested.
-
Hm... but the KE70 that I'm looking at buying is in basically perfect condition... Do you know of any KE70's with a 4AGE for sale?
