  1. I don't have a clue what those are hey haha. Searched that on wikipedia and couldn't find anything so also unsure of what it is haha. They seem to all be going in... One thing that I've noticed recently is that the exhaust smells like oil!? Also, the radiator over-flow tank is empty... shouldn't it have some fluid in it?
  2. Cheers guys will try to check all these things when I get home.
  3. Crap! Haha. I don't doubt there are good mechanics out there but the stereotypes are typically true... even you guys (being hobby-mechanics or professional/paid) admit it. I just can't be f@$ked with trying to find a nice person who will fix my car properly for a price that is fair for both of us. I guess I'm gonna have to do a bit of searching regardless of how much I complain haha. :jamie: Cheers.
  4. Either that or I go straight to a mechanic... I've had the worst three days mainly due to uni... so not really in the mood to learn at the moment. :jamie: I'll consider that though, thanks.
  5. I dunno... If I drop it to say 55-60km/h in 4th (which is tolerable for a 4speed) it starts going all gay. It's not idling smoothly either. Define workshop manual? Can my corolla manual do the same job? I just want to get this sorted out as quickly as possible so if I come off a bit bratty then that's why. I crap myself when something goes wrong with my car...
  6. Where do you work? Mahogany Creek is very close to Mundaring/Glen Forrest. It's 15 minutes from Midland. Most importantly I need to get this car serviced soon... but I'd also like someone who I can go back to without feeling like I'm getting ripped off... surely there are heaps of mechanics in Perth who can vouch for their garage?
  7. Cheers guys. I will drain it depending on how it drives during this run I'm gonna take it for. Edit: It's idling horribly... not very smoothly at all. It's sluggish as well/doesn't respond well to acceleration. I can still hear sloshing so I guess I have to drain it.
  8. I've probably got the KE70 manual in the car but I didn't think it'd be too puzzling to figure out how to drain some oil, but I'll go get it now. I can safely say I've learnt my lesson... haha.
  9. That's reassuring... thanks guys. I put nearly all of 4 litres in but it was pretty empty... Is there anyway I can let some oil out just so I can sleep at night? :jamie: Does it involve the sump plug? Will I need any special tools? Haha.
  10. I'm taking it to a mechanic ASAP so I will eventually get it checked out... but it seemed to be doing this regardless of whether the engine was warm or not.
  11. How do I check the bulbs? Do I need to take the cover off? If so, how? Haha. How do I check the fuses? :jamie:
  12. Yeah I only put the dipstick in it's hole haha. Shouldn't be able to see any oil? Oh crap. I didn't fill it anywhere near the top like I said, but I can see it... perhaps I've filled it too far. I've checked then and the oil goes probably double the max... Didn't know that about the sump thing thanks for that! Cheers that's a good idea. New engine??? Ahhh! Are you serious? How much will a 4k engine set me back? I really don't have the money to buy a new engine.. I'm still in debt from the Superlites...
  13. I'm a bit worried about my KE70. I was driving it today on more or less no oil (I didn't know until I got home)... each time I'd brake or go slow in a high gear it would begin to stall. I filled it up with oil as soon as I got home but it still wants to stall... can anyone think of a reason for any of this? Also the brake lights have stopped working... I've recently put on Superlites that are bigger than the stock wheel so could this have something to do with the brakes? Should I get larger brakes to handle the size increase? Edit: fixed the brake lights they were both blown for some reason. Cheers.
  14. Sorry. I live in Mahogany Creek.
  15. The dip stick says it's full now... but if I look into the engine it's nowhere near the top... but I guess that's why they have dip sticks... to stop dip sticks like me from getting confused... :jamie:

    Mechanics

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has a mechanic that they like going to in Perth. I usually go to one that is an hour+ away from me (just because he's a clever with cars and a good guy) so I'd like to go somewhere closer... Preferably a small place that's not part of a franchise; someone who works for themselves is preferable... Cheers. :jamie:
  17. Ahhh ok that's what I was forgetting... to run it after putting it in... :hmm: sorry, "oh what a nissan feeling!". :jamie: I filled it up but nowhere near to the top and turned the car on and it still made that sloshing noise while idling... is that bad? It's gone away now though. How often should I drain it?
  18. I know it is does but as soon as I take it out the oil covers the whole thing, as in it moves down the dipstick. Since it's new oil it's harder to see where it's up to. So I was wondering if there's any way to gauge it without the dipstick?
  19. This is a stupid question but I don't care. How far can I fill up my engine oil? I've got a KE70 but I was driving around today and I had it in 4th (4speed) and it was wanting to stall... later on I turned a corner in 2nd and it nearly stalled... got home and it stalled... I checked the oil and it was completely empty. I felt pretty stupid. :jamie: So (without looking at the dipstick since it's not accurate enough) how can I tell when to stop filling it up? I know not to go right to the top... but surely there is some generic way of telling? Cheers.
  20. Cheers. :)
  21. Is that what "bent" means? Is that what they'd most likely fit onto my car with the extractors? Or is it $600 for a reason? Haha.
  22. :) Wow... what a bunch of arses.. did you end up getting them put on? 808? Is that a Mazda? $395 sounds pretty good haha. What year is that car?
  23. Ok will do. I didn't ask really I just asked for a quote for extractors to be put onto to a KE70 and he wrote it down on a card haha. Cheers. :)
  24. I'd go if this was in Perth, but really, really interested in seeing lots of pics of it. :)
  25. At the same one? In Midland? Why is there a difference in price? I know your car is a lot older than mine but wouldn't that mean it's around the same price if not more since it's a classic? $680 vs $520... :)
