If any one still reads these posts.. the next events are CC&D July - Williamstown - July 20th CC&D August - All Toyota Winterfest, Caribbean Gardens - August 17th CC&D September - Silhouette Karts, Somerton - September 21st Best bet is to hop on to facebook to stay up to date www.facebook.com/tccav
  2. parrot - yes both sets of wheels 13's.. the superlites are 13x6... works are 13x6 and 13x7... can't remember what the tyre size is but lets just call it "ghey". when i first looked at it I think it had 205's on it and i expressed surprise they didn't rub. after a drive around the block it apparently turned out that they did quite badly! Jim - you are on the right track there. Though I would really like something with harness slots. I quite like these which I have seen on yahoo japan.. they can have a head rest bolted to them which appeals... but again having the harness in the right place will be questionable. Given they are japanese not sure they will fit my gaijin arse/hips either!!
  3. Ha if its anything like the Celica it will end up shed bound and you will never see it on the road lol
  4. My panel beater reckons he can fix it.. so he is going to give the quote to the insurance company and see what they reckon. Think its opportune time to put the flat bonnet one it I have been wanting, and fling the nudge bar!
  5. I think the nudge bar would have only made it worse! Will visit the panel beaters today, I am pretty certain that the work required to restore the rail, inner guard, headlight bucket and rad support panel back to their proper place in the world will make her a write off. Sad :(
  6. Not the way I wanted to start the day. I fear she will be a write off with the insurance assessors.
  7. Its far from perfect, but its nice and neat. Digital photos hide many sins! No idea where it came from in Tassie.
  8. Why thank you. She looks good on superlites, and great on the work equips :) I am so stoked about owning her - having had a KE15 briefly and not having the ability to hold on to it, I never thought I would have the privelege again. Whaddaya know, circumstances have proven otherwise!
  9. About time I put up a rides thread on my 1969 KE15 Toyota Corolla Sprinter, since its been 6 months since I bought it. The purchase came about as I had a hankering to own another classic besides the Celica, which I could put on club reg and use for the odd spot of hillclimbing, Sunday cruising etc, and be less precious about it - the Celica spends more time in the garage than it should because I am terrified someone will open their door on it in a carpark, or its raining, or the day ends in Y... etc etc. I spotted a KE15 on ebay that was a bit rough around the edges, but I figured in time with some love I could get it to fit the brief. I called the owner, and he quickly worked out who I was and that I was the silver RA23 owner. He said the blue Sprinter I was looking at was too rough for me, but he had another one (this one) that he thinks I would much prefer. He sent me some photos and he was right... I told the other half the budget for the fun car had just gone up, and promptly dashed over for a look. So I went and looked, and it was pretty. So I bought it, without a good look over I must confess, but it was too pretty not to have! That failure to give it a good look over has probably cost me a bit of money in hindsight, but I love the car so all is fair in love and car sales.... History as I know it.. bought from Tasmania 10+ years ago with plans to become a Group Nc racer, but fortunately for me that never happened. The Tasmanian owner had painted it red, from its original white, and it was a nice tidy job. Its been shed bound since that purchase 10 years ago, explaining why it still looks good. At some point it has been fitted with a stock 4K engine and 5 speed. The guy I bought it from fitted a weber 45 to it, which was clearly too big for a stock motor, so my mechanic Peter Robinson Automotive fitted a stock carby to get us up and running. I will eventually sell the 45, and try and get something more appropriate for the engine, probably a 38 or 40. It sat in Peter's workshop for a few months (like 3 months!) while I was away in Ballarat, and he gradually fixed up for me a number of deficiencies the car had. She had her public debut a week ago at TCCAV's Cars Coffee & Donuts and everyone seemed to like her very much. Photos (mostly taken by the previous owner) When I first got it home Then I found these through rollaclub Which will look even more ace when I get a better tyre size/profile on them This is her at Donuts Plans are to do some or all of the following: 1. Fit a smaller Weber 2. Fit some suspension that is more handling oriented 3. Fit semi slicks to the superlite rims as my "race rubber" 4. Maybe fit some period styled race bucket seats, and harnesses 5. Racing stripe and period style door numbers 6. Enjoy :)
  10. And yesterday Pulled the garnish off the bonnet/hood today and gave it a good wash. She is looking good. Replaced a blown globe in the heater control unit so now it lights up again. I ran the diagnostic to try and work out why my check engine light comes on when cruising at 80km/h - no dice, no codes. Do they only get stored for a certain number of starts? (Turns out stupid me changed the battery first, neatly clearing the codes at the same time) I also put a new battery in it, thinking that it would cure my slow cranking on cold morning. Again no dice. Might have a starter issue. Le sigh.... Reckon the nudge bar is next to go.. and then ride height... and tints... and that stereo needs to go too. Really sick of AM radio!!
  11. Been a while since I posted... too many forums to post in LOL. Thread post from May on another forum... She is just about to roll over the 250,000km milestone - she has done a lot of km's this year already! I manged to score some AE92 rola roof racks off gumtree and fitted them up as soon as they arrived. Will be able to put a bike carrier on now which is one of the original aims when purchasing the family truckster. Pretty keen to lower it with some coilovers for the front and lowered springs for the rear. If I do that the nudge bar will come off. And still need to sort out the stereo and the window tint!
  12. Hi Matt... with facebook being so immediate we tend to forget to come and look at the forums much these days. Hopefully you came along, as these events are open to any one. Next one is at Westerfolds Park in Templestowe, so if you missed out please come along to this one!
  13. Not so much for building you a tough engine, but Peter Robinson Automotive in Oakleigh is good to know when you are looking for spares for your KE55 :)
  14. Bugger realised I have cousins visiting from interstate so I am out
  15. So you know Hanging Rock is this Sunday right Dave?? Meaning this would be a post Hanging Rock debrief maybe? I might bring the sillycar out to play....
  16. Sorry I don't remember now. I think I ended up using a drill to open the hole up a little from what ever I bought - Toyota Hilux ones I think. Tailgate handle no good. Crownman in Sydney was looking and thought he had one, but I never managed to get it off him.
  17. Agreed it should have them.. equally I have given a number of club race cars a flogging without them to no ill effect... so far :) The explanation was a cracker. Old mate told me there was a risk that the wheels would not be centred on the hub... I wonder what the tapers in the wheels and on the wheel nuts do then?! Anyways, I will fix that at some point, as it is something that is easy to make right.
  18. That did include 165 of road worthy but yeah, out of control.....
  19. So the RWC Inspectors were wankers... knocked me back on the following items 1. Front brake hoses perished 2. Rear washer diverter valve faulty 3. No hub centric rings 4. Wheels protrude from front guards 5. Front driving light cracked and reflectors rusty 6. Pedal pads worn Most of it I considered bullshit but what do you do, the umpires decision is final. They wanted $650 fix all that, and for me to fit different wheels. Suffice to say I took it home to do it myself The rear washer was a bit of dirt caught in the washer jet, the pedal pads were a little worn but far from dangerous, and the wheels are borderline, but what ever. What really pissed me off is they rattled the wheels on so hard that it took 2 hours to get them off, and I broke the end off a 1/2 inch breaker bar in the process of getting them off. Shit form really. Anyways I fixed all that shit up, borrowed some wheels and tyres, and got my roadworthy. Here she is doing an Ikea run
  20. Why did I miss this thread?!
  21. 7AFE or 7AGE would make it a remarkably fun car I think. As would a GZE or turbo. But all that kinda defeats the reliable daily brief, if only because it would be off the road for a period of time to do it :) Wheels and tyres are on. They look overrated! Thanks to bway for putting them on and doing the wheel alignment for me this morning. Needs lows and tints.. but I will stop spending money on it for the minute and get it roadworthied!
  22. Well the good news is she is off to a good home. A guy in TCCAV who has loved it from day one has bought it. He picked it up today. It will go well in his custodianship, and probably get the motorvation she needs to be a truly cool cruiser.
  23. Nope, just a humble 4AFE. Poor thing struggles to turn the airconditioning compressor!
  24. Front strut inserts were done on Friday. The ones that came out of it were the originals, and well stuffed. Also did the driveshafts, as the boots were torn and throwing the grease out. Monday will see her get wheels and tyres. Then will try and get a RWC for her. The engine light came on today when I was driving back from CC&D... wonder what thats about. Went off again with the next start. I wouldn't mind a 4AGE going in it... a bloke who used to work at Toyospares reckon they bolt straight in and use existing wiring harness if its from same era Corolla..... but standard -ish it is for the moment :)
  25. Since changes to my employment situation were forced upon me in December, I have been belting around in my mechanics AE91 Levin. Its been quite a pleasant place to be, but two doors didn't really suit having a 5 month old bub. So when this very clean AE95 wagon popped up on carsales for not much money, complete with rego until August, I thought it might be worth a look. Seeing some of the TCCAV lads's machines also helped the cause, their fondness for them is infectious!! Rocked on down to Frankston on Sunday, took it for a drive, did the deal and brought her home. I am very pleased with how clean it is. Allegedly owned by mechanics previous to the owner I bought it from, he seems to have used it mostly to go back and forth to the railway station for the last 4 years and had it serviced at Kmart Auto. There are lots of stickers from a detailing business in the glovebox, so I guess they are probably responsible for how good it continues to look, even with 245,000km on the clock. Issues it had when I got it were: *Cracked windscreen *Massively cracked dash top *Driver's seat wouldn't slide back *Shocks were as so soft they might as well have not existed *Tyres worn *Top of the console box cracked So given this is destined to be a daily commuter, along with something I can sling our mountain bikes into/onto, pretty much the plans are going to be get it roadworthy and start wearing it out on the daily grind. Things done so far are: *Windscreen replaced *Dash mat ordered *Driver's seat pulled out and sliding mechanism issue rectified *Inserted new KYB shocks into the rear. Fronts will happen tomorrow on a mate's hoist *Tyres ordered to go with the OZ wheels that have been sitting in my shed. The wheels are off being refurbished as we speak. *S/H console box sourced Can't find anything that shows when the timing belt was last done, so that is on the to do list. As is replacing the thermostat, as the temp gauge floats up and down much like a sticky thermostat would do. Have to try and find some era correct rola roof racks for it. Any one know of any? Anyways here is the pics which are "before" most of the work was done (other than the screen) High end audio Complete with ipod dock No power house but she will do To keep the nudge bar or ditch? Stack those lights high!
