  1. alright managed to get my car into wok today (mechanic) and my boss and I had a look at it, we have replaced ignition, ( coil, dizzy parts, plugs, leads) we retuned the carbs.. and still no luck. so we moved on to timing which was well out.. Timing will most probably be the issue unless it has a worn timing chain. Trying to set the timing on my car was impossible as the timing chain was so stretched it would'n't hold the timing and as a result was about 30 degrees retarded. we kept trying to get it to hold until my carb backfired, ramflo caught fire and melted and generally sh#t hit the fan. bad news... tomorrow I have to go into work and replace timing chain and tensioner. good news... my new cam gets to go in early. the round about answer.. check your timing and timing chain.
  2. mine started doing the same thing, and for some reason mainly when its colder. perhaps its not overfuelling, but under fuelling?? I turned my mixture screws a quarter turn richer, see how it goes today and will post tonight, if it is not already fixed.
  3. When removiung the camshaft on a 4k, am I able to pull the lifters out of the engine through the head or do I need to use a magnet to hold them up as I slide the cam out?? I am aware that I will need to take off the rocker gear and pull out the pushrods.
  4. I have seen a guy on trademe ( nz) that makes the adjustable tops I think They are around $400 for a pair.
  5. you my friend are a legend.
  6. Hi All, when I bought my second 4k quite some time ago as well as the complete motor the guy I bought it off gave me a cam with iot that has already been ground. now on the end of the cam the code " T121 " has been manually ground into it, does anyone know what grind this may be. the guy I bought it off was from west Auckland in NZ. I was just hoping maybe someone knew so I don't have to pay $100 to get it camdoctored just to find out what the grind is. I need to know because I need to find out whether I will need to upgrade the bvalve springs or not.
  7. cool, thanks for that :)
  8. Hi All, I know this has prob been covered but I don't have time to search as I am at work. when painting a ke30 I know it will be about 4 litres of paint required but how many litres are colour and how many clear??
  9. sounds sweet dude, I still gotta do my flares I had my 30 lowered and want to pump out the guards, had some fibreglass flares but I don't want them anymore, they looked tacky So I am going to pump out the standard guards and get some SSR meshies, I like your Idea for a satin paint job, I want to do my car satin black, then do all the badges and grill e.t.c. green and keep all the chrome blinginn....
  10. loooks like your cars got some potential there... you got any plans for it in particular or you just gonna clean it up and leave it stock ??
  11. I am using mothers metaklk and alloy polish.... made my alloy wheels go mirror finish, next is rocker cover and thermostart housin, thenb the wiper motor e.t.c again.
  12. when you Polish stuff like thermostat housing, rocker cover and wiper motor.... how do you stop it going dull ( alloy) and more importantly , rusting ( wiper motor and little metal blocker plate things.. any help would be much appreciated.. :bash:
  13. I have a feeling that it may be the chg light itself thats faulty because when that turned on the fuel gauge stopped working, might have a fiddle with my dash later, also I have done like 300 k's with the chg light on and it still staert first turn every time, and the stereo was left on accidentally overnight... so my car could be playing tricks on me... oh well...
  14. Hi all, the charge light in my ke30 is on, could someone please tell me what this means?? I checked all my electrical connections and such and they all seem fine and my car drove fine last night and this morning....any ideas?? also, my gas gaugge moves up very slowly and I'm sure it reads wrong because I canrt have used $60 worth of gas on a 10km trip to work.. please help. thanks in advance..
  15. My 4k did it for a while, here is my solutions. new plugs, run some carby cleaner through it ( I run my car on premium unleaded) and finally, leave it to idle for a little bit (1 min) before switching it off, hope this helps...
  16. I actually just bolted the 14's of my mates R31 on to my car, wee bit of dish that polisghed up chrome gonna paint the centres black, with 195 tyres :hmm:
  17. you could mount it in the glove box, I did that once, or on the parcel tray above the passengers feet. Also If You are getting an aftermarket gauge be wary of the size of the sender, as the sender that came with my one and all of its adapters did not fit. So you will need to get an adapter that is the right size or find somewhere other than the stock temp gauge point to mount your sender. hope that helps. :)
  18. Hi All, It's me again with another possibly dumb question. IOn my carbs I have a few vacuum connections, and I wanted to know what the vaccum connection on the top of the carb just below the lip for the airfilter is for. (# 2 in pic) I have one on both of my Aisin carbs on my twin carb seyup. Also Why is it that only one of my carbs has the connection for the bottom vacuum that I believe goes to the Vacuum advance. (# 1 in pic) around there. sorry for bad picture any help would be much appreciated. P.S I don't have as many vacuum lines as the one in the pic.
  19. OK sweet as man. takin them out is probly easier than jamming them open to be completely honest haha :). thanks for the help.
  20. ****Note - all thins is being taken from a single carb and not a twin carb. But either way i can't see there being anything different. The other carby should have a vacuum connection in the same spot as the "main' carby it'll just have it blocked off - try swapping the gauge over and see if there's any difference in readings. Both readings should be pretty close together***** the second carb does not have the vacuum connection in the same place.. The vaccum connection on the carb I am using is the one down the bottom of the carb however both carbs have a little vaccum connector at the top just below the airl filters.. should I be using that part. ??
  21. I don't even have 4 carb intake runners I think. I have the hose from the PCV valve to the manifold. the vaccum advance from the main carb to the dizzy (second carb doesnt have one) and the hose from the brake booster to the manifold, also there is a large fitting on the left side of the intake manifold but I never connected rthat to anything.
  22. Hey Man looks like you are getting along real nicely with the car, just curious as to how you applied that bog with the tape?? could you teach me the ways??
  23. Hi All, I know this has probably been covered before, When I installed my twin carbs I never bothere dhooking up the choke mechanism as I was missing a couple of bits from the l9inkage set up and It doesnt take all that long for my car to warm up. so anyway cutting to the chase... Am I able to remove my choke butterfliies?? If so will there be any difference to anything?? power, Idle, Induction noise, fuel..... and is it as easy as unscrewing them?? please inform me if you know.... cheers Jono!!.
  24. well currently I have it on the line from the carb to the Dizzy but when Idling it reads as zero then when I accelerate slowly it goes up to like 20 then when I floor the pedal or give it a bit more gas the needle goes back down to zero so it looks like some kind of anti-boost. So I think I need to find a different spot. how about the hose from the rocker cober to the manifold??
  25. So could someone please tell me the correct hose to Tee the connector into, photos would be helpful, I don't know which vacuum hose to use. I have the aisin twincarbs. thanks again all, Jono.
