Nope I went there last week and there were a couple of secas and one or two series one sedans. One of the sedans had a custom twin pipe exhaust put on, standard size but the chrome tips were just notable on either corner of the rear of the car. From the flange back obove the axle was the hotdog and flange I think, wouldve sounded great. Pity it was for a sedan/seca floor pan :n: Check out campbellfield for a red series two, I think there was one there:y:

I have seen seen at least 4 or more with a/c when going through wreckers over the past few years. I suppose the ae71 under dash ac unit and ducting is usefull but the a/c pump bracket, condensor and lines are a different thing all together. Coincidentally I was reading about installing a/c and its quite involved. Better obtaining it off a complete car so you know you have all the associated bits together. (as highlighted in this ke70 aircon manual). Carby idle needs to be adjusted, along with the fitting of the vtsv valve which is on the passenger strut tower. And the chopping of vaclines to accomodate t pieces etc, etc. If you go genuine you this will usefull, aftermarket will be expensive. http://www.ke70.com/Toyota%20Corolla%20Air%20Conditioner%20Ke70%20Instructions.pdf

Tough little rig Ive seen on d.c, certainly has some cred :y: I recall this being for sale on trading post some time back. Did you remove the chrome trims from the roof channels. Oh and please leave the plastic front bar on, everyone has chrome. This bar is straight as an arrow. Very refreshing wagon to look at.

There will be a few ke70s popping up for sale, so keep your options open :) Go and check it out first. What appeals is its an honest car in the sence it hasnt been cleaned up for the sale and "what you see is what you get" It appears to have been repaired possibly early in its life so the problems are coming back. I can just see behind the rear bar the beaver panel along the seam is rusting along with the more obvious spots pictured. You'd need to strip those areas or even better the rear end to see extent of the damage. But if the pictures are anything to go by it looks quite serious and fixing it properly so there isnt a repeat of this will cost $$. The cheaper the car usually ends up being the more expensive.

Its good cars like this are going to people like yourself who appreciate them. I'm sure Grace would be pleased :) . Will you atleast creat undercover accomodation for it as I assume you want to keep it long term? Look after her :y:

Cars coming along nicely Nathan, should be a head turner when its done :y:

Sounds like a good little car, Ive driven a ke70 with close to 400k on the clock and while it was tight, smooth and refined to drive it certanly wasnt inspiring to drive. Youll notice a manual conversion will transform the car straight away :y: Once you acquired all the appropriate parts it should take a good day or weekend to do, especially with good assistance :) So no pictures

Both versions of grill look great Dan, it certainly gives it the novelty look :y: Any more updates?

Looks great and original, Those stripes are absolutely priceless! Please keep them on, Love it :) You know that steering wheel cover is atleast as old as the car, as you said you had to wrap them and stitch them for a snug fit. A much cleaner car to breathe a little life into :y:

Cheers Matty, Just break up some steel wool into small portions (size of a 10c piece so its more controllable) and polish till your hearts content. Same applies with those pin type clamps too. To finish it off use autosol, eagle one or any metal polish that suits. My old thermostat housing outlet for the heater pipe snapped off 4 years back. After frantically tracking the same housing as the hi cams differ, I pulled off the inlet hose (which was flaky inside) to the brass pipe off and consequently pulled off those pin clips and replaced them with those wirery looking types so atleast every thing matched to an extent. Now that ive got this il put it on :)

Its getting there Matty, only getting better with time! An alarm is a mans best friend :y: The pic of you with the car looks quite menacing!

Coming along beautifully mate, its all the little detailing which takes the most time! It never ends! Rad support paint job look mickey mouse :y:

Glad to see progress on this Doogs, keep up the good work and enjoy the new job :y:

Ha nice jingle to the pic Jimi  I'm getting fussier with age I think :hmm: Well done some more low key tidy ups if you'd call it that. Some of it was in preparation for AJD and then it eventuated into doing things in preparation for its 30th Birthday in March. The Hi Cam badges I have pulled off, they were never ever put on 1982 built Corollas, stupidly I stuck it on 8 years back because it looked "cool" Its much neater without them. Secondly, back in the day this was getting around with some big hellas on the front. When the front bumper was changed the lights were taken off and never installed. (They are undamaged and weigh an absolute tonne!) Again it looks cleaner without them. There is a red wire which comes from one of the rubber firewall grommets which was for the lights, many friends on here and at AJD noted this imperfection so I have corrected it. Went down to the wreckers and got a lenght of that black tubing trimmed it accordingly, put it on taped it up so it matches and gave it some armourall. I insist its been there for 29 years ;) I decided to replace the radiator hoses, the top one was the never correct profile from the beginning. While I was aware of that 4 years ago I let it go as it never affected the cooling efficency, until Peter Robinson (The Toyota guro of olde) politely advised me of the appropriate hose which was the straw that broke the camels back on All Japan Day. He was one of the people who noted the red wire too. Recently with the radiator out, I gave it a sand back (light rub), undercoated it and gave it few lashings of satin black. SHlong13 gave me the idea :y: I also gave the fan cowling a good wash down with thinner to remove years of forever black and armourall. It now looks better than before - not so tacky. Oh and also the bypass hose too! I replaced the 4K-C and Castrol stickers with a cleaner pair :) I also grabbed a vacuum line from booster to inlet manifold as mine has a few cracks, so as usual I gave it a good clean and blacked it up a bit. Good as new :y: After a few weeks I went down to Centre Rd wreckers, I keep hearing about it and decided to go and got a perfect inlet heater hose assembly, and one Ive been hunting for a long, long time a centre cap  One on the car is all dented in, so after fossiking through two large crates all dad and I could find were ones with the red T centre for corona, celica or cressida. And then dad found the "one" So gave them a good clean up and will put them on when I bring the ke back home. New hoses L shaped upper, lower and by pass hose. Red wire along firewall, incorrect top hose, too shiny fan cowl, gloss finished all replaced corrected. Also put back on some or the missing oem clamps for the by pass hose etc. Before Bottom two is todays efforts :y: No before only afters. Shiney :hail:

Thats off the ke55 Jailbar grill (with the additional two vertical bars), out the two different styles (the other grill with the sapphire badge) this is certainly the rarer one. Ted is that new old stock as the gold in the c looks realy nice along with the black contrasting in the chrome. I have the sapphire variant of this type in my collection still with the blue badge attached. A lot of people must assume that the centre was meant to be blank as they easily fall out! Just noticed it n.o.s Link to the grill its from http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/26635-ke55-jailbar-grille-30/

Good decision on going for a Corolla :y: For the money your willing to spend you should be able to pick a up a tidy ae92,93 or 94. If you are picky, look at models built in late 1991 to early 1994. The were the update models and had many standard features compare to the 1989-1991 models. Eg air conditioning, power steering, fuel injection, nicer trim levels etc, etc. Avoid the metallics, they will fade. Solid colours are the best for wear/rejuvenating. The likes of rust are apparent, so check above the front windscreen, below the rear screen on the hatchback and seca models and possibly the roof gutters. Other general wear and tear items can be replaced with new/aftermarket parts, or good second hand units for a reasonable price. The 4afe and 5 speed goes really well and like to rev but have plenty of bottom end pull to compensate, depending on your driving nature it may be more sutable than an ae93 with a 4age as they like to be revved out which can be a pain in daily commuting. My average comsumption in city driving is 7l/100km with ac on, to give you an idea. Take your time, theres plenty around there its a matter of find one you like :y:

Welcome to Rollaclub Jonno, looks like a reasonably tidy base for what you have planned. The roof is a little sunburnt! Will you give the car a quick respray in white to freshen it up once the rust work is done. Should turn out nice :y:
-
Hi Matt, For $300 it certainly looks like a good buy. Particularly if you have the ability to undertake the repairs yourself :y: Should be a good build thread :) Would you be able to take a photo of the diff. I'm guessing its an se built in 82, most I have seen including mine have the Jap diff fitted instead of the Borg Warner.

True, white walls werent a factory option. With the previous tyres which were 12 years old with some paint marker I did a white wall band and it looked okay, but I didnt do it with the new Bridgestones. Hubcaps, popped them on for a bit of fun, they were off the ke30 and ke35 2 door sedan and hardtop in the very early series from 1974. One bloke had three for sale only so I didnt bother asking and three hours later on the oter side of the swap meet there was another guy selling one. So I grabbed that one and went back and the remaining three. Just a pretty hubcap to hang up :y: Sorry Mr Josh, Low is a foreign word for this.

Correct Spencer, That is the more or less the front beam which links both front chassis rails (Which is covered by the beaverpanel) Take off the front bumper, headlights, grille and beaverpanel so there is plenty of room to play with and clean it up. If you have a welder have a go at welding it up first and painting it black. Bog will only make it pretty but not as strong:y:

Good work mate, Looks like a good clean base! Keep scrubbing you'll be suprised how much actual paint is under the dirt/grime. If you have a gurney and some carstands, on the level ground steam clean the undercarriage. Youll be amazed and cleaning bug will kick in :y:

Back in Melboune a few weekends ago we hosted the first All Japan Day car show, an event hosted many times in other states if I'm not wrong? Got the ke70 all prepped up, and I couldnt believe how much dirt/dust etc I removed from the car from all the little nooks and crannies. Took the grille off clean each bar and the rag was brown, a shot of Nu Finish polish had it glistening. While the grille was off I lightly painted the rad support panel in satin black and continued the mission into the engine bay. Just cleaning things like the chrome airfilter clips left a whole lot reddish brown on the cloth! Then everyones favourite.... the copper fittings for the heater lines came up like a mirror! And a little more Nu Finish on the gloss black airfilter housing beautifull. While working on the heater line I replaced all the clamps with some oem units so its all uniform as I threw them out many years ago when replacing the thermostat housing and offending hose :y: Even the teny tiny ones for the little by pass hose from water pump to thermostat housing  As usual all the external chrome trims above the doors, on the doors, and on the wheels were shot with some polish too, And later some tyre shine. It was the first major event the car has been to and the recognition was very strong. Plenty of people wanting to know of its history, whats been done etc, etc. So in all its livery here are some photos :y: These two are some of the photos gladly taken from Chroma Canvas. Some hubcaps I bought at Ballarat Swap Meet, Different? they are now hanging on my garage wall.

This looks perfect, you could almost eat it because its so tantalizing. Really Matty, hats off to you for pulling off a quality and detailed build in such good time as it would take others countless months or years to achieve the standard you have shown us :y: . When is a little more complete put it in the sun and go crazy with the camera! Left hand mirror... bloody beautifull :)

They are old school wheels from the mid 70 to mid 80's They were produced by a company called Delta Wheels and that style which I have always admired is called "Turbine"
