  1. Welcome Jesse, There is 79 model ke55 at campbellfield pick a part, and there is a hardtop of the same year at kilsyth which I heard has a 5 speed gearbox still in it. Good to see redke30s shell is still in the family :y:
  2. Thanks gents, Looking at the car without the moulding or decals dosent cut it for me, it looks too plain. The rubstrips are a definite and so are the decals, they are what made this car standout out. This time around I wont be replicating what I had on the doors. Reason being the positioning and size of the decal combined with the black sill panels and back front beaver panel gave the car a really high ride look. So with those areas in white and having much larger decals spanning the length of both doors just above the sills it should give the car a normal stance. Despite mine being an se, therefore having no stripes and strips these are the strips I have acquired from a CS wagon. Thinner with a lower profile. The decals you'll see when they're on the car! Glad to see you saw pictures of the old ae82! Not a back thing for high 300thousands on the clock. I just hit the ninjastars with a drill and buffpad and soem cut and polish for the initial clean. After that it was regular polishings with autosol or eagle one alloy polish. True was good having a chat and checking over your beast on Sunday :)
  3. Hi Mick and welcome. If you can, please put up some pictures as it does help fellow members gauge a *rough valuation* of your car. I understand sentimental value can come in but as Jono said it doesent really have an effect on the cars value. While some ke70s are purely bought as track hacks there are the odd few which arent. As I said, if you have photos of the car which back up your description I can't see why it wouldnt fetch well above the average. In most cases if people want a track hack they wont pay $4000+ for an example like yours. At the end of the day you have the option to say no to offers if you arent happy.
  4. Hello all bit of an update, I replicated an old sticker that was on my radiator cap from 1982, Nippondenso in English text. The picture will do the talking :y: Finding an original cap is impossible! Now after 6 years of being in my possession the ke70 is getting the love it deserves. Over the years she got a few little love taps, scars and two isolated spots of rust above the tail light. While it still presents well it can always be better! Both front doors have a dent, more so on the front passenger door, the right hand rear wheel arch and quarter panel and also the left hand quarter panel (caused by insecure jack put in the wrong way in the cradle). It sounds worse than what it is! While were at it I still have a brand new boot seal which was for my old ae71, so it will go on once the specs above the light is fixed. The automatic antenna mounted inside the rh quarter panel recess needs to make way so a hammer and dolly can do its job. It makes no difference to the function of the radio and looks like an eyesore so created for it is going to be welded up. More or less from where the mouldings were down to the sills its going to be blended white, under the rear bumperbar the paint is rather thin so its getting a shot of paint too which will extend down into the lower ares of the quarters. Ive removed the mudflaps and in particular the rears the amount of dirt which I though I had cleaned out was still remenant, after washing the area down with prepsol the area was tidy. The front beaver panel currently black along with the sills have been prep washed and sanded in preparation for a coat of white too. The current rubstrips are now off. With the help of a heatgun and plastic applicator they came off quite cleanly despite the amount of dirt trapped underneath. I was happy to note the skins under the mouldings were fantastic. Nice and straight, no filler which would come off with the mouldings. I have acquired some replacement mouldings (originals) which are thinner and the profile is lower, Just much neater overall putting it simply. I'm still chasing some little rubber end caps for the moulds as a few are missing. So this stage only the door moulds and front guard ones will go on. The quarters will be last. I have probably misssed some things which ill add later. Liners removed for dent removal access. Beginning the removal. All Japan Day 2011. Debut at cars, coffee and donuts before its bodywork session.
  5. I'm going good mate, its a completely different car! Should look great with a coat of paint on her for sure :y: Those flared arches look tough! This would be seriously cool if it had all the interior back in it though, just for the family car look :) I'm in the process of prepping the ke70 as its getting some dents, scratches and a hint of rust removed. So all the rubstrips are off and are being replaced with originals. It looks different.
  6. Yes ill be attending, should be good weather for it too!
  7. Good photos Justin, not the dreaded cv throwing the grease out trick!? This happened on my old ae82 so I replaced them only to have it occur again :n: The wheels came up awesome :y:
  8. It doesnt sounds normal at all, Ive test driven an auto ke70 with close to 400 thousand on it and it went really well driven under normal conditions. As I live in a hilly area I put the foot down and even though it kicked down into 1st or 2nd it was very quiet and civilised and got moving. I think the motor needs a good tune and possibly a fluid change in the auto. My ke70 with 4k goes beautifully and keeps up with the traffic, and I'm not one to labor my cars when driving as I upshift a little earlier. Should've specified mines a manual :) But the sooner you find a manual package the better :y:
  9. Anymore progress? :)
  10. Hi Shazza, 3/4 does seem a little high, just a few good flushes and a thermostat should the trick :y: Glad I prompted you about the Forever black, its a good product but you may need to apply it a couple of times depending on the weathering of the rubbers. The current aftermarket moulds I have on my ke70 which I'm replacing with your type came up great with it but make sure you have a damp cloth so you wiper excess off the paint. Keen to see the finished product, but if you consider pulling the strips off let me know :y: For a 30 year old car the paint looks really good. Nearly two years ago I had a red ae71, previous owner had it parked up outside for 12 months or so and it was weathered to the point that undercoat was bleeding through the high spots. With a good quality cutter though the car came out like a lolly and always attracted attention. So yours would be much better. Whats next, just detail under the bonnet?
  11. Bring it up to a rwc level and let it go :y: Then focus on the 55 :y: The condition of the car and the driveline someone will snap it up.
  12. Your photos look much better than the ones on the ebay listing, rc member chichbra had this advertised on here I think. While having the MR2, older cars have more character so I can see why this fitted the bill. If you decide to remove the black rubber body moulds, please let me know :) Looks like its in good hands :y:
  13. Why strip it, just clear whatever needs to be done (should be little) and sell it for some $$. Most of the work done wasnt outsourced so youll get back something. I agree two projects is a handfull. Or just put the 4ac back in it? Just seems a waste after the work youve done to let it go.
  14. Good to hear things are progressing on this, I wasnt aware the windscreen was capable of doing that. One brute of a machine :y:
  15. Thats come up great, keep it up Shay! Are you only doing the rears or the front too? Glad to see some progress on this :y:
  16. True once you do the thermostat, coolant and flush it a few times it should be fine. Being suc ha basic engine they respond quite quickly to that treatment. Wheres the needle sit on the gauge when your on the highway? Ive attempted at removing the plastic cover of from the reinforcing and gave up! So just replaced two over the years. Regarding the mouldings there are two options, first one is "Forever Black" basically a black pigment dye which soaks into the plastic. I have used this and its good particularly after a few coats. The other option is Meguiars plastic restorer in a cream form I think, Ive seen it used on a faded louvre and it came up great. Could be a little more user friendly :) Perhaps attempt at treating those moulds while their still on the car, pulling off will be messy and installing may be time consuming. If you do decide to remove them please let me know as I may be interested. The paint came up great, whats its like under direct sunlight. Any thin spots along edges?
  17. Good progress, is there any change in the running of the car since the service. I.e not overheating? How hard was it to remove the dent from the corner of the bumper, because from memory there is a 90 degree iron reinforcement inside which would make access difficult. I replaced my rear bumper twice, because of this due to me finding a cleaner bar every time :laff: Will you straighten out the passenger side corner of the front bar, looks a little further back into the parker light from a small bump. :hmm: So are you going to keep the stripes and body moulds for a standard look, or remove them later on. Regardless its going in the right direction and looking forward to more progress :y:
  18. Type in Corolla SX or GTI into ebay australia and there is a wrecker in Country? N.S.W who is wrecking a red and grey one with spoilers.
  19. I may as well add mine :) These are only Corolla, but I have corona, celica and cressida somewhere too.
  20. Apart from the damage to the front it looks quite good, the two tone colour combination look cool too :y: And for the ke70, people pay for that look :rolls: Keep the updates coming!
  21. That is brilliant! I have some old Corolla ads from 78/79 and early 80s flaoting around :)
  22. Nice pick up Shazza :y: Looks to be very straight and original too, have you considered fitting an orginal tacho dash and just swapping your current odometer inside it. It'll be easier than retro fitting an aftermarket tacho. Ive got a ke70 and as you said the bumpers are not that desirable when dull. Perhaps try Meguiars trim restorer as I witnessed trim in that condition to look as new. What are yuor plans with the rub strips, keep them or remove them? Keep us posted :)
  23. Agreed, one of the finest examples ive seen of this model corolla. Hopefully the links work. Please excuse the different image sizes :) Depending on locality and market, there were quite a few variations in exterior trim. Sedan Grey centre garnish (series 1) Coloured garnish, (series two) Seca (hatchback). Series one with or without garnish. Series two with coloured garnish.
  24. Yes they did produce them when new, there is a site called about time spares which is all new old stock and they did have a set in the original red box some time back. After reading this thread I tried looking on their site but they werent there. Perhaps call them as they may still be around :)
  25. Hi Jason, I bought mine off ebay brand new reproductions for $30.00. They needed a little shaving in places to ensure a good fit but they did the job. Unfortunately the seller no longer has them... I had a pair but sold them after my car was written off. Never fear, check your pm :y:
