  1. You're all getting warmer guys, 1974/5 had the chrome bonnet inserts across the range. Possibly halfway through 1975 was the changeover period the vents in the bonnet were we're stamped flush to complement the venting on the surrounding scuttle panel. Personally I'd go for a 1974/5 bonnet with the chrome vents as they look more finished with the chrome and the way the vents are raised for that meaner look.
  2. Happy New Year Jay, good work on the rear tail lamps! Keep the updates coming :)
  3. Now the ae92, done a few bits to it. I had enough of the amber front bar indicator lenses so I replaced them with some clear units from ebay. Good quality considering its a non genuine part which dosent leak. The amber bulbs supplied wouldnt secure properly into the sockets. So I dyed the original bulbs with some model making lense paint.....WIN! These lenses are for a series 2 front bar which are longer overall than a series 1. Back in August I cleaned my interior in it, you know with a bucket of hot water and endless cloths. It came up alright considering I finished with 3 yes 3 buckets of brown water. Still though I had this annoying mark on the back seat which I tried removing with the spray on foam which did bugger all. After some time I went into Woolworths and hired "The Rug Doctor" which included the antifoam, cleaning detergent and automotive upholstery attachment. If you think your interior is clean think again, there will be human slime! Brown water came out of the seats, in total the seats were cleaned 4 times inbetween cleaning the following door trims, boot carpet, parcel shelf and floor carpet. So in total I had it for 6 hours so I was hammering it till I was happy..... I got there! I'll be doing it again in 12 months or a bit earlier as what it sucks out is crazy. Though it shouldnt be as bad next time... I need to take more pics as these are "after" shots. Everything looks much richer in colour now! Best $60 you can spend. Half way through round 1 End of round 2 Back seat cleaned, door trims cleaned and floor carpet.
  4. The amount of heat this thing generated was concerning. You can see a conventional switch where the optional a/c would've went but then on the opposite end another hole was added! A really nice tarnish free replacement was sourced And its done, take a seat in 1982! Now featuring radio, 4"speakers in the kick panels for that nostalgic sound. Virtually impossible get handbrake cover and shifter surround blanking piece. Another from SubaruKid. Another from Jimi. Thanks again for the great photos guys /\/\ Now another thing ill mention. My cousin got married in December 2012 and I was honoured to be asked by he and his wife to be if I could use the ke70 to ferry them after the reception to the airport before their honeymoon. Down in Melbourne on the 8 December it was 38 degrees, The wedding was 1.30 in the afternoon so it was peak heat and the mighty ke ran like a boss. I on the other hand..... no a/c and vinyl seats need I say more! During the end of the reception, speeches were made from my cousin(s) so the car and I got an honourable mention for the work I have put into the Corolla in the past 12 months and also in memory of my grandfather who passed it onto me. So as the reception was wrapping up at 11pm, the 130 or so guests formed a guard of honour in the forecourt leading up the ke70 awaiting the Newlyweds. Lets say it was a talking point as no one was expecting that car. They loved it! Before we knew it the sparklers were lit, the Bride and Groom were coming and in the jumped in the back seat of course! There was plenty of legroom for them and it was a comfortable 60km journey for them. I don't have photos yet.... hope fully soon. The first ke70 used in an Australian wedding?!
  5. Back again, since my last post I have done a few things on the cars. You know its those little jobs which take a long time to do but the outcome is priceless! Well down in Melbourne most people who know we had the second Classic Japan show 2012, In the lead up to that I was a busy beaver tracking down those perfect condition interior bits and exterior.... In my previous pages I had some pics of the audio system in the ke70, PLEASE don't gag from the shock but I have since removed the Retro Eurovox radio/tape deck, traxton equalizer, and big pioneer ghetto blaster parcel shelf speakers. The speaker covers are living in another members ke70 for a retro look ;) the rest was binned as it was old gone. At the same time I took the liberty to remove the aftermarket boot lights, boot release (being electric) and redundant wiring which was previously used on some hella spot lights. Funny thing was though, after tracing the wires they ran off two separate toggle switches which were cut into the lower dash fascia. There was so many unnecessary joins poor soldering jobs it was a pain for me but fun for Paul who applied his expertise :) Thankfully the original loom under the column wasnt touched. So after tracing all the necessary wires then it was just a matter of pulling them out, But then there were additional electric antenna wires nestled under the gear shifter surround which ran directly under the carpet and then fed into the wire channeling under the scuff guards on the drivers side doors and into the boot. The amount of wire pulled out was questionable. Okay so once that was all done, then began the preparation of new *clean* wiring to be made up for the radio for the accessories mode and wiring to the front speakers which were 4" units mounted back into the front kick panels. The original owner removed these to install bigger units in the front doors. Now with the radio antenna I was not keen on drilling into the clean front guard at the base of the a pillar so I opted for a internal unit which mounts inside the rear window.... Only problem was the length of wire was not long enough, So I decided to mount it under the dash pad and out of the way. Then it was the reinstallation of the dash which was an easy affair after doing it 4 times as I was chasing wreckers for a matching gunmetal grey uncut dash fascia to cover the radio, I did eventually find one and in addition some bright spark chopped into the Corolla insignia located just above the glovebox.... seriously why?! So again a 70km round trip back the wrecker where I got the dash fascia resulted in disappointment as the car was gone! So big thanks goes to bAker who happened to have just what I was after, after running around you really learn how much variation there was in ke70 trim plastic colours... Be careful when looking. At this point the dash is complete and is looking shmick, at the same time I was hunting for a aqua/bluey manual shifer surround with rounded blanking plate and handbrake cover. The units in mine were from a CS so it was full lentgh unit, so many thanks to RXsammy who was happy to exchange his SE units which were in the same colour! The lower din console where the equalizer was is still the same one, I made a black infill in which the "Toyota" blanking plate clips into so no need for another unit. At this point I had redundant speakers in the back parcel shelf, being an SE meant it never had a carpeted parcel shelf. So the hunt was on again, there are bugger all SE trim levels around and if they are they have most likey been cut like mine or they are beyond repair. Mr bAker came to the rescue as his identical parcel shelf was uncut so a deal and exchange was done before being sent off to my uncle so he could spray paint it in the proper blue and flat finish. Once this was installed the car was ready for All Japan Day. If it wasnt for the help of these blokes mentioned it wouldnt have been possible :) Long overdue photos! Taken By Silverra28 Taken from SubaruKid Replacement Parcel shelf after paint. Retrofit under way.
  6. How bad is the crack in the lower radiator support? Maybe it can be rewelded? Removable is possible but you would want to reinforce the surrounding areas as to retain the rigidity it initially had as these were spot welded in. You could use a rad support from a flat front ke70 but things such as mounting holes for for lights grille etc will need modifying.
  7. I second Adams suggestion, go down to your local woolworths or Safeway and hire the "rug doctor". For $57.00 I had the machine for 24 hours which included the anti foam and upholstery cleaner and while my interior looked clean the water that came from it was putrid. The interior dried off rather quickly and the results are well worth the effort.
  8. In the time I had my AE82 it recieved oil and filter changes every 3,000kms without fail. Mind you everything was done at home so it was cheap do while being beneficial in the long run. I purchased it with 284k on the clock and sold it off at 350, again it went on for another 22,000 thousand before being sold off to a friend of a friend. Recently I heard its still running strong. And yes under the rocker cover it was clean as a whistle!
  9. The series 1's are appealing, you don't see many of them either. Maybe another item on the to do list is go to centre rd wreckers and grab a pair of clear indicator units for the guards in place of the amber ones ;) I saw some last week! Dave's right, this 7afe would have the facory header/extractor system. The blue sedan I minded when I pm'd you had them....
  10. Like everyone else has said, its aircon. There were two types, the integrated unit which strictly ran along the passenger side of the engine bay behind the radiator and into the compressor. Then theres this style which I never really understood, as it looks all over the place... as long as it blows cold thats all that counts.
  11. You're close Dave, I believe he was known as Breno. He seemed more active on the ke front 4-5 years back.
  12. Haha that is a cool photo, all triplets in the front and the shy one down the back  Really though, what are the odds of that ever happening again!?
  13. If you love noise bolt on a straight pipe, Ive heard one in the past and it sounded okay. If you want to compromise get a nice aftermarket muffler (not cannon) with a bit of exhaust pipe at the tail so it looks standard but sounds nice without losing any more oomph. Without exhaust back pressure these motors wont like it.
  14. Tidy pick up indeed, You don't see many series 1's twincam Secas. From memory thats got a changeover engine with lower kms I believe, so there should be plenty of enjoyable kilometres to be had :)
  15. Good to see the this thread come up, Mark going by the photos it looks like a great example of that vintage of Corona. And this is what Goulds attached to their number plates. With dad growing up back in Brunswick East he had his as new ke30 cs which he and grandpa repaired which he drove for many years. He remembers when the ke70 was released late in 81 it was on the showcase in XX trim of course! He wanted to trade in his immaculate car which they offered a pittance for.... Also in my stash is a manilla type folder from Goulds containing "Handy Hints" that covers the Toyota range I believe.
  16. I said it on fb and i'll say it again, those seats look brilliant! Its something about the vinyl which gives the interior that ambience. In the time this car has been public, its seriously gotten better and better. Also who owned the red ke70 xx and ae71 csx in those car shots? They looked quite tidy and original.
  17. Dupli-Color Wheel Paint - 340G, Silver is really good wheel paint, after removing the chrome trims off the ke70 I needed to repaint the wheels particularly in the dish part where the clips scratched. After doing multiple coats including drying time the finish has come up close to original as possible. Down in Melbourne this particular brand can be bought from Repco. Other alternatives are VHT also. While its referred to as wheel silver, some brands market it as "aluminium" finish wheel paint.
  18. The tail light extension and front lip look the business :y: Which car did the lip previously come from? Do you know you can get front bar clear indicators off ebay for a series 2, I recently bought some from ebay in Sydney and I'm very impressed, they would tie in with your rear tail lights I think. You can even get "crystal" lensed fender repeaters or alternatively, vy commodore repeaters can be adapted also which I have chosen for less bling factor. Keep the updates coming!
  19. Beautifull ke30 mate, its refreshing to see one just like it is being clean and standard. Bridgestone Turanzas are a pretty good tyre too, noticed in your pics.
  20. That gear box came up a million bucks! Nice one, you are getting that rust area welded up arent you? Bog will not last in that spot I can assure you! Keep the updates coming.
  21. Cheers for the heads up Hingwaah, I went down and got the dash fascia from that wagon Pity someone else broke that centre console. In the wagon, did you see the sales reciepts from the dealer back in 1983. $11,500 including all accessories and the horrible ming rust proofing! I also got some genuine headlight covers for the ae92!
  22. Looking good Andrew, keep up the good work. Did you inquire with that wrecker about the early ke30 I linked you?
  23. S1 and 2 guards and corner lights are interchangable, the only thing is S1 don't have the guard repeaters fitted so you would need the s1 indicator/parking light assembly to make it legal so you have an indicator.
  24. Your information is warm, from September 1991 the ae9x series was facelifted and revised. Series 2 had the longer more wrap around indicator assemblys, there were additional amber indicators placed in the front guards - which made up for not having them incorporated into the parking light assembly like on the series 1. Look on ebay for some indicator lenses, you can get amber units for cheap or there is the option of getting clear units also. Both of what I'm suggesting are Taiwanese productions but the fit and finish is still better than buying used 2nd hand units. Recently I decided to purchase some clear units for $49.00 and I'm quite impressed with them. 25. AE94 denotes the car being built with the 4af(e) or fuel injection, unlike the ae92s which had the carburettor. Rollaclub member Blindkidseeks may be able to answer some questions for you, perhaps send him a pm.
