Its getting there, slow and steady wins the race :y:

Very nice progress, and its great to see an early model RT series corona (1975-1977) like this one. They just looked that much nicer, maybe because they werethe first imported cars. And yes, York Motors N.S.W (The reddish sticker on the firewall) back in that era was a very, very big importer of Toyotas. Keep up the good work

Great photos Justin, but that last one is awesome! How did you manage that?

Cheers guys, it good to steer behind the wheel of this for a change. Just need to need to do an oil and filter change *every 1,500-2,000kms or 12 months* And I need to replace the battery as its playing funny buggers.... Yesterday morning was adequate for lighting, much better than today so Ill put up some quickies for your amusement.

Great to hear Dan, good stuff. I saw the pics from the jdm car meet last saturday night, a classic photo of you peering out of the window with the bonnet up. One unique car for sure

Hey Aaron I spoke with my unlce and he said it was just a mixture of 2 pac paint he had in the workshop, as far as brand or anything like that theres Dupont, Glasurit and many other brand which I can't recall off the top of my head. Quantity of paint was one litre which was made up and there is 1/3 left incase of touch ups... Hope it sheds some light for you. More news! Last week I recieved my painted door bits and they are insane, the finish, match is just spot on! Photos don't do it justice. Opening the doors and hopping in looks more so like a brand new car as it all matches along with the aroma of feint paint from being closed up :D Today my uncle and I did the polishing of the bootlid and the entire sides of the car and its spot on the money. After cleaning off the polishing compound I gave it a thorough wash and rinse to check for leaks which were nill. The boot is sealed 100%! Few teasers ;) I wasnt suprised to see it rust free in there when it was stripped of paint and seam sealer. Crisp. Thats all for now, more to follow later :)
-
Cheers Aaron, unsure what brand of paint and thinner ratio but I can find out for you. My uncle mixes his own paints and has done so over three decades. Its 2 pack in Peak White (AA) so its got the proper tinting to match the car.
-
Hmm I think I know where you going, will the design or colour choice be modern or 80's spec? Either way it should be good.
-
That looks quite good, atleast it can be reversed if you change your mind as opposed to painting it with vinyl paint. The curved bits would be time consuming to wrap though.

More progress, my boot seal that was destined for the old ae71 2 years ago got put on today. I got a little worried as it was so tight working it around the boot opening but it now fits like a glove. Being an ametur the stanley knife jumped out of the groove a few times when I was making the incision deeper for it to sit on the lip so there are some cuts in the rubber... Eventhough the rubber sits flush with the metal the overall profile is nice and high and you can feel a slight resistance when closing the boot knowing its actually sealing unlike the pancake that was there.. Had a go with my uncle at shaving a few areas where some particles got under the paint causing little bumps with a flat edge safety blade. Mainly on the boot so I'll finish that tomorrow and give it a wet rub with 1200 paper and soapy water followed by a polish by hand with a cutter and then by buff. I removed the window winders and the lock/unlock buttons as he will be colour matching them with the same blue the used for the interior door bezels as they are sun bleached like anything.

Everyones heard it all before but I believe keeping things visually clean and standard(ish) still makes it unique or standout if you prefer, particularly if its on an older car like this example. Chrome bars will look the business for sure! Pinstripes?? Theres an abundance out there to choose from, you can get off the shelf stuff from autobarn as no one else stocks it or possibly a vinyl cutter (signwriter) or panelbeater may have old stock laying around. Ive put stripes on all of my cars, starting with the ae82, ae71 which was harder as I had to apply each stripe seperately while perfecting the gaps to replicate the originals and lastly a blue set on the ae92 which came out great. Josh, A proper CS 1981 to Aug 1983 (non hicam badged) featured a single stripe. Colour of striping was determined by body colour. From September 1983 (hi cam badged)the flat fronts had the triple stripe which again was dependant on body colour :y: A few examples for you, both easy to come across. One single stripe the other double black or blue would look the business :y: What are you planning on paint wise, acrylic, 2 pack or?

Great pick up mate, good to see some upgrades happening too. This is one car which stands out all for the good reasons!

Maybe ABS auto parts would be the go for the brake hoses. After converting the ae71 I had them custom make a hose for the clutch slave cylinder and it was great. Might cost a little $ though, for my length 250mm from memory including fittings was around $45.00. In saying that I had to wait maybe a week for it to be made, possibly with the hoses it could be quicker as they more off the shelf as a rwc item. Heres one close by.. Corner of Lygon and Stewart St Brunswick. http://www.absauto.com.au/franchise.php?mode=viewstore&fid=51 If you've had and are satisified Lovells they should be okay in the Corolla, particularly if there specific to the model. Most common brands I heard of are Pedders and King Springs. Are you still chasing an indicator lense? Ill dig around for you at home.

Cheers Rob :y: , the thought has crossed my mind just for laughs but i'll leave it as it is. Short answer: None, she was as standard as they came back in 1982, I'm guessing the owner wanted top option it up a bit with the money they wouldve saved from buying a mid spec CS that would have been around the $1,500 mark dearer. This retailed for $5,990 brand new. This looked more like the silver CS on the opposite page which must've been produced in higher numbers for the masses unlike the fleets like the SE which explains the rare sightings of them. Mum had an SE from 1994 to 2001, it really was the identical twin. Same rego combination BJH, but was re registered, month of build and similiar body and engine numbers. We sold it with 200,000 on the clock. Mums ke70, photos taken the day it was sold. Me in the drivers seat! The yellow "Golden Wattle" example. I'm going down tomorrow so I'll get some photos of the spots for you Justin.

don't worry guys i'll let you guys know when the Corolla comes out. There is a Bowls club nearby in Brunswick, unfortunatley I couldnt put the car on there if I tried. Still though it had the big old sign saying its a bowls club. There is also a velodrome not even a kay away... that would actually make a photo for your twinky Justin! Ill find photos of both for you guys.. EDIT: Big big win! Managed to find and purchase a very good SE Spec bailey channel for the drivers door with a solid spine. Unlike my rusted out one which pops out when the window goes up. Ill put it on tomorrow!

Thanks guys, Its come up really, really nice. I just took my time putting it all back together (particularly the front end) as far as gaps and fitment is concerned but seeing it all one colour is a nice change. The front bar got a chance to be readjusted as it was tight on the LH corner so now it sits 5 or so mm away from the front beaver panel which is what I was after. Same too for the rear bar as the bottom corners of the end caps were rubbing onto the 1/4 panels. When I was fitting the door cards back on I realised I hit a snag..... I forgot to put on the passenger door mirror! You'd usually think there is two nuts welded inside the door skin like the drivers door but no. This mirror had the self tap scews encased in these plastic thimbles which plugs into the door skin and is later secured by those metal square clips which screw on. I felt like a contorsionist bending my arm up through the door frame around the window regulator to get to the little suckers but it was worth it. Then later I put on the door cars (making sure the winders are all on the same position) :) Just need to fit the new boot rubber and badging then its ready for a clean and drive! April 7 marked 30 years of being registered. There is a bowls club down the road Sam, so I might just do that. Maybe if Rxsammy gets his reg+rwc we can go there, when its all complete and cleaned Rxsammy I'll come past

Any more updates on the car Jarrad, saw the photos of it on fb at a car meet which looked great!
-
What I love about this car is its a twincam ae82, but it has the later small port engine and other new goodies which make it specialall under the skin :D Theres nothing wrong with long arms, they came in handy when I was re installing my passenger door mirror with the nuts, screws and washers!
-
Thanks Josh, I'm guessing its direct gloss as thats how its come out of the gun and cured.
-
Looking good Luke! This and RollaBus are the pinnacle of ae82s!
-
And more.... No more dents. Colour coded door handle plates, were blue but turned to aqua and now the blue again! Took some photos of the car after 6 tonight but it wasnt lit enough, will put up some outdoor ones later on.

Bit more of an update :) , the car was sprayed last weekend but with other commitments I have not touched or seen the car since then. So today was put aside to reassemble the car, couldnt wait! My uncle gave it a good coat of AA Peak white, all tinted accordingly and the 2 pack finish is unreal. I said it before and ill say it again, its staying stock standard. No fancy trimmings like before, less chromework, just the bare essentials like a real se should be. I'm still contemplating about the weathershield, headlight covers and numberplate frames...... As I'm not putting back on the chrome wheel trims I gave the wheels a prepwash and layed down a few coats of "aluminium" finish wheel paint as the chrome rings scratched the wheels. While the taillights never leaked I resealed them with some Permantex Black Silastic for good measure, Just need to double side tape the badges, vacuum the inside of it out throughly, clean over the engine bay and wash it. 15/04/2012 - No more nasty blacking out the front end or sill panels!
-
Agree with all of the above, the overall stance is tough
-
I like it a lot, can't say ive seen that shade of blue. But it appears to be same shade throughout the entire car so its got to be original. I think a yellow would look nice on this, 78 7k rolla had the midnight blue 2 door sedan if you want some more ideas.. Put those ke35 hubcaps on it with some whitewalls too. "L" was the base model, "SE was the midrange and "CS" was the range topper for the ke30's. Good to see the badge is still fixed on the rear. Should be good
