Good work there Johno! You are really doing a great job with what you've got. Another fact for you. I had to replace the rear rh window winder assembly on my series 1 Ae82 hatch, so I bought one out of a series 2 hatch and it fitted and bolted up to the inside of the door fine, but the channel in which the glass sits in differs from the series 1, so it turned out be no use to me in the end as the glass and channel could not be pursueded to fit.

Ke Ping's 2nd Rolla - Stocko Runaround Ke55 Sedan
Ben-89 replied to KE ping it real's topic in Rollaclub Rides
That is such a nice example of an original ke55. I agree just keep it like a stocker as these are getting harder to find in that condition. How many kilometers does it have? Was it a one owner car as it certainly looks like it. Great find, keep us posted! -
You've done a really good job Leah, If you keep it up the car will last a lifetime. Having said that though, if you can accomodate the car in the garage, it will be even better as it will protect it from the extreme elements (hot sun or wet weather etc) in the long run. Its amazing what armourall does isn't it, those bumberbars grill and other black plastics look like new. I would recommend for you to buy some "Forever Black" it is a black pigment that you apply to plastics for a permenant sheen that can last for years. And does not come off after car washing.... Ive used it and the finish is perfect. I gave 3 coats for each bumper after letting each coat dry for 10 mins until I got it how I liked it. Armourall is good but after it comes in contact with water it virtually washes off and leaves streaks, needing to be re applied again. Which is what turned me off.. The chrome work came up great!! did you use the same polish that was for the paint? Having polished the chrome too, I would recommend for you to use either Autosol metal polish, or Eagle One metal/alloy polish if you wish to. Did/are you going to polish the mag wheels, or leave them until you upgrade them.

This link below outlines the transer of rights for vehicle registration, this should help you. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Regist...ferOfRights.htm About time theres another ke70 thats close to the Greensborough/Watsonia area. Where abouts in Camberwell are you located. When you get your car registered and cleaned up you should come with a few of the Ke70's for a cruise.

I Bought a spare radiator yesterday from Pick a Part For my ke70. Its absolutley perfect, its probably a year old but overrated and its for a manual too, no transmission lines. The ke70 I got it from was in preety bad shape, and you wouldnt think that such a good radiator came from it even though it did. Its taken me 12 months to track down a really good one. This radiator is the early model ke70 type that has the black shroud that screws onto it which covers the cooling fan entirely. Unlike the 1983 model flat fronts that have the radiator with the little metal shroud on top. With the cooling fan visable. Pick a Parts price for a radiator was $ 75.00, Mr Radiator said a new one is worth $ 375.00 for a manual one minus transmission lines. When dad and I went to pay for it, the guy said radiators are on special so its worth $ 40.00 instead of $ 75.00. Talking about a bargain! I gave it a flush and inside its clean, so now i'll just buy some good quality coolant and probably swap it over and clean out the old one properly.

Hi Leah welcome, that looks like a nice and original ke70 you've got there. I agree when you said you would like to keep it as original as possible, while including a few different touches to your car just to make it a little bit different. Just take your time when when polishing it and don't rush. You'll be suprised with the results, and being red it will only be better even more. Apart from the cigarette burn, the interior looks preety good. Your ke70 like mine also has a genuine left hand mirror..... very hard to find as you had to pay extra for it at the dealer when new. You still have the original registration plates too like me, going by the registration, i'd say your car was registered in probably jan/feb 1982. Not 83. As your reg is BI----- and Mine is BJ-----. Where abouts in melbourne are you from. Keep the updates coming.

Air conditioning was an option, though the original owner never orderd it. If I wanted to I could put it in along with all the piping, ducting, condenser and wiring etc from another ke70 fitted with it, though I can't justify it as the car is rarely driven. As for decals, the only ones that Ive seen are one in the engine bay from nippondenso that is silver, and another sticker that says Toyota Air that goes on the glove box lid. As for the a/c switch itself, you could either pull one out of an a/c Toyota provided its genuine Toyota and put it in, or you could put the entire switch panel out of an a/c equipped ke70 and put it into mine and you could say its factory. So if I put a/c in the ke70, It would still be considered original as all the components are oem, except for the gas.

No way do I want to upgrade it to xx or cs-x specs. Any of the extras that you can see on the car were Toyota Accessories that were specifically for the ke70 series that were acquired over time. The car is the SE model so its preety standard, however Toyota gave buyers the option to differentiate their car from all the other Corollas. The car looks like a CS as it has the exterior pin striping, rub strips and chrome wheel trims. Though these were still listed as options for lesser models like mine. With the ke70 accessories brocure I have, I will list the options they offered, and I'll asterix what my Ke70's got. *Perspex headlight protectors* Front nudge bar *Body decals/Pinstripes* *Number plate frames* Air conditioning Solid metal sunvisor Roof racks Tow bar *Weathershield* *Rear venetian* *Front and rear mudflaps* *Boot release* *Sheep skin seat covers* *Chrome wheel trims* *Left hand mirror* *Floor mats* While my Ke70 has all these (original) factory options, It is still an SE model regardless, only the previous owners and myself purchased accessories to make the car original looking but at the same time different from other Corollas.

Thanks Jip, yes that radiator shroud is 100% original. I'm keeping the look of the engine bay as it is, "original as possible" but also immaculate at the same time. The engine bay has been polished, along with the rocker cover, ignition coil, original radiator cap, brass heater pipe joins and the chrome clips on the air filter...

The Ke70 is a keeper, On boxing day I was approached by two young guys asking if I was going to sell it. They were absolutley head over heels. However I said it was not for sale as the car is very sentimental to me as grandpa owned it. There are no major updates, but quite few more recent photos of the exterior, interior, and dash. Just the day before I spent an hour and a half slowly cleaning every part of the interior. Like the indicator/wiper stalks, window winder handles, interior door handles, the chrome handles to open the door from the inside, seat belt buckles (orange button) and the chrome part that clicks in and locks.. Last but not least I wiped down all the vinyl seats with warm water and a cloth. The water in the bucket afterwards was a bit brown, considering the car was very clean already. After wiping down the seats thoroughly and letting them dry, I could just smell the new car smell on the seats.... after nearly 27 years. I'm in the process of looking for some SE door cards/trims as the ones in the front doors were both cut to have speakers put in which I don't like... Ive looked at a few wreckers but the only blue ones they have are the CS ones with the map pockets and carpet. Or the late model or slant front ke70 with the really dark blue trim which doesnt match with the lighter blue. I'll just keep looking until I find them, or I'll buy them off some one on here if they want to sell them. The dash underneath is absolutley perfect with no craks. When grandpa had the car it had no dash mat but the car was and still is under cover. Though at the wreckers I was lucky enough to find a mat that was blue/grey to cover the dash. The car is very close to reaching 130,000 km, but is curently at 129,997. By keeping my ke70 stock and original as possible, it will begin to look different from the higher portion of Corollas which are being done up/modified. For the age of the car and the condition its in, Its nice to take it on a drive because it attracts positive attention.

I've got a series 1 AE82 Hatchback on here, Its under the title of My Corollas. Show us some photos of your AE82, Is it a single cam or a twincam?
-
Hi, this sounds like a good project, looking forward to seeing some current photos when your camera works, And eventually seeing the finished product. Are you going to give the car some some of the senior citizen enhancements. Like a rear venetian, sunvisor or the like? I gave my ke70 the rear venetian, weathershield and finely outlined the side walls of my tyres white, to give it the old school flavour.. Looking forward to seeing more progress with this car. Thanks, Ben.

That looks tough, those wide turbine style rims suit the looks of the car. Good work, Do you have anymore photos from the day, looking forward to seeing some more.

Hi, as stated by RedKe30, have a look at a self serve wrecker, such as Pick a Part or you pull it. These wreckers are generally larger than others so the chances of finding a mirror are greater. Is the LH mirror for the slanted front ke70, or flat front.

Can you please put up some more photos from when you did the body polishing, interior cleaning and glass cleaning, would love to see them, For a car with 250,000 + kms, that is a really nice example, Have a look at my ke70, the thread is called My Corollas.
-
Hi for a daily that looks really clean, fix up the little bit of rust, replace the boot lid and give it a quick polish with a few coats or armour all on the grill and bumpers to bring up the gloss black, and it will be overrated. Also how many kilometers has it done. Keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks for taking those photos, were these extractors custom made, as they look preety good and is all the emissions gear hooked back up to the extractors? Apart from not idling properly, how does the car perform in general, is it more responsive during accelaration.
-
Welcome mate, for a sedan that looks preety tough, Its the red body and the matt black wheels that set that sedan off. Got any other interior and exterior photos, would love to see them. Look in my thread under My Corollas and you'll see on pages 1 and 2 photos and a bit of history on my ae82. don't sell it if you don't have to, it looks too good.
-
Hi Wayne welcome and good work on the interior of the seca. I was unaware that you could get extractors made up for a 4AC fwd mounted engine. Do you have any photos of these extractors on the car at the moment. Thanks

Did some exterior/cosmetic work on the ae82 a few weeks ago. As the top pinstripes were peeling and breaking in places I decided it was time to freshen it up and replace them. So carefully with the razor blade I removed both top pin stripes, cleaned the surface and then applied the new tri-stripe or tripple pin stripe. These stripes were the closest I could come across that were actually black. But looking at these stripes, they blend in and complement the lower decals and stripes as they appear bolder. Theres nothing like 80s style pinstriping that can make a Corolla look a little more unique. The lower Hatch decals were a genuine dealer option, over the four years of having this car, I have only seen another four or five hatches with the same decals. I also replaced the normal Toyota badge on the grille with a series 2 Corolla badge with the "C" logo, then cut down, filed and smoothed and fitted the badge to the grille before it was treated to some paint to outline the C and the three over head stars as they were stone chipped. More photos and updates soon.

Hi nice ke30 you've got there, it looks preety tidy. You seem quite determined to learn further with this car which is good. Good choice of wheels, even though I prefer the black and chrome stock wheels. Ive got some photos from 30 years ago when dad had his 1.5 year old ke30 at the time, same colour too with brown cloth and vinyl interior. He even painted his stock rims gloss black and added the chrome trims and eventually painted the letters on the tyres for the tough look.

Went out today and bought spark plug leads, condensor and points for the ke70. Recently I put in new spark plugs, rotor button and distributor cap. So they wont be getting replaced, as the car in the past 12 months has only travelled just under 2000 kms. My ae82 the daily, will be getting new spark plugs soon when I service it next as the current ones are getting worn, as the kilometers have built up over 2.5 years.

Hi and welcome to the club I really like the side deacals on your car, It adds to the tough stance. Its good It went back to someone who will do the right thing and look after it too. According to the colour chart in my ke70 brocure, The proper name for your colour is Big Bad Orange. More photos would be great.
-
Welcome, you have a preety clean Corolla indeed, nice to see another clean white ke70 around. Your intentions on the car sound good and sensible, without attracting too much unwanted attention. keep us posted as you work on it.
-
Your are right, these cars are so fun to drive!! and youre one looks preety tough with the wide wheels too. Shame about the rust though. I would definitley look for another one when the time comes up that isn't too bad. At least youre getting enjoyment out of this one anyway.
