Back on the Wooden Spoon thingy i maybe in the draw for the runners up with the amount of speed/rust holes in the poor girl! :( But ill be there it will be good to see the rolla's out and about! so count me in! |blink| Cheers, -Gerard -
So a cam shaft from a 4k will fit the 5k? I was told that you can only use the 5k cam only in the 5k engine. Because of the hydraulic lifters?
-
Well that's what the mechanic said down here in SA, i am getting the detonation problem! The motor has no timing or a dead spot between 2500rpm to 4500rpm The timing in the rpm range up to 2500rpm the timing is around the 10-15 degrees advance The timing in the rpm range from 2500 to 4500rpm sits around 0deg Then after the 4500 to about 6000rpm the timing goes to 15-20deg advance and has top power! So he said i am getting no timing due to the cam being "Too Hot" for the engine and thats causing detonation, then he said replace the cam with a standard one or a turbo grind cam and then get it re tuned!
-
Is this one for me? lol :D If so i wouldn't have a clue?? that's what i was told its overlapping! And the cam was in there when i got the motor! but it was running A carby turbo setup!
-
I Have that the problem with the cam overlapping in my turbo EFI 5k The car doesn't run well at all, i was told the cam is too lumpy! So now i need to change it back to standard! but i can't find one ANYWHERE!! :D
-
I have a 5k in my KE55 coupe, i converted it to EFI and i have Trubo'd it! and that goes good! But really it depend where you want to go with it and what you want to do! I have read a lot about the 5k engines on here and they seem to be a good motor! Good buy by the way!

I Agree the southern Areas do offer quite good routes for crusing! Count me in!

Ill come, If the curze is still on! Tho my rolla isnt in the best of condition it will be good to see all the other nice corollas all cruzing! :) -
Hmm cutting holes.. don't like the sound of that! but if it has to be done... thanks for the input! :-)
-
Hey all, Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but i haven't found anything so i thought id ask. I just blew the gearbox in my corolla, I'm not sure what type it is but its connected to a 5k now i have a 4k hi cam motor out of a ke70 wagon and was wondering if the gearbox will bolt up to the 5k engine? Also on that note will i need to remove the motor or can it be done while in the car? Cheers, Gerard
-
ahh i see... that makes more seance now! and thanks to Mybowlcut i have a better understanding of where the hoses go! Thanks everyone! Much appreciated! Gerard
-
Ill have to give it a go, and see what happenes If not i have seen a filter been placed on the hose that leaves the catch can? i guess that might work? Cheers
-
Hey all, i have been researching, but maybe not enough i recently got an oil catch can, i have seen on this site on how to install them on a carby but not EFI I have an EFI 5k Turbo setup, there are 2 outlets on the rocket cover one in the middle and one towards the end (firewall) the middle one isn't connected to anything and neither is the back on it just has that check valve (one way valve) the problem i had is when i connected the middle hose to the EFI on de acceleration it was sucking oil from the engine into the manifold and blowing an insane amount of smoke! i have an oil catch can but not sure where to connect everything to. the way i see it is if i connect the hoses up from the rocket cover to the catch can and then back into the manifold its just going suck the oil back through the EFI and blow smoke again! so i'm a bit confused, i have had a looked on Google and still no real help? Can anyone help, maybe with a rough diagram or something? Cheers. Gerard

The Compression test came back all good, he said it got good low compression (don't know ratios) I haven't touched the motor when i got it so i would say they would still be hydraulic! I will need to take the efi off and have a look tonight. Also kickn5k would that mild cam be ok for the turbo? Cheers, Gerard
-
How can you tell if its a hydraulic cam or a standard? whats the difference?
-
well.. I'm looking for a stock 5k camshaft.. Can anyone help me out? Cheers, Gerard
-
Update.. The car doesn't blow smoke anymore due to a vacuum hose going straight into the rocket cover! The cam shaft needs replacing with a turbo one. The one that's in there at the moment is too "Hot" for the engine and a smaller cam will give me more power. Where can i get a cam now haha? :hmm: but the car is getting High 80rwkw and drivable!
-
Ah ok then well... more problems then! when the motor was running the carby it was getting 94rwkw with the dyno print out not sure how much boost was going through it. now i have the fuel injection running 70rwkw something isn't rite!
-
yeah well.. 70rwkw on a fuel injected inst good at all The computer side of things is all ok it had major timing issues the guy said. The ecu controlls both ignition and fuel Yes it is a electronic dizzy and yes it has been welded!
-
Well its bad news and bad news.... I was told from the dyno tuner that the car is only pulling 70 rwkw.. He also told me that the advance and the retard timing on the car is so negative and so advance or something and the compression ratio is really high, like 11:1 or something, he may think there is a cracked piston!? on deceleration its blowing insane amounts of smoke! :hmm: What are peoples thoughts? where can i go from here?
-
Well after all the work i had spent and stressing out, the problems that it came down to was the Microtech computer needed to be mapped and the injectors... The Fuel injectors where flooding the motor that bad that the spark plugs could not ignite! the injectors had been turned down to allow minimal fuel at idle, they said there was that much carbon build up on the plugs and the exhaust. The car is finally running and sounds great with the lumpy cam :y: and is now getting its final dyno tune then we will see how much power this baby really has! Thank you all for the input and problem solving! will post back on how the dyno tuning goes! :hmm: Gerard
-
I have replaced the injectors with some new 330cc injectors
-
Yeah i know, i am going to book it into the mechanic where i got the computer system from and let him find the trouble! I will post on here what was wrong with it when i find out! :y: Thanks for everyone input and help! :o
-
Well like i said, i have new leads on there way Also i am running a Microtech LT-10s and as the wiring diagram says, Cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4 but i have canged them around to see if that would make a difference! but i still have no luck! I guess now i just have to wait for them leads and if it turns out to be no good then i think it will be time to take to the mechanic!
