  1. I'm Stewart (Gecko71) I have a AE71, 4A-C Motor has a 32/36 weber, I grinded the intake manifold a bit, T50 box, Monroe Shocks, Kings Springs, Fulcrum Steering rack, produces about 58hp at the wheels, 90 at the flywheel. Putting a 4.3:1 diff in soon, looking for some nice extractors (if they exist for a 4A-C).
  2. Gecko71 = Rolla Name Stewart = Real Name Beige AE71 with a few mods
  3. I ask myself why. But then realise, why not?
  4. Actually, I have been told that an Auto AE71 diff is a 4.3, so it gives acceleration, whereas a manual AE71 / manual Ke70 diff give top speed. don't quote me on it, it's what i've found.
  5. Thanks for the info. I reckon i'd valule acceleration over top speed, also, the engine has no overheating problems. I have a 4.3 diff already (got it from an Auto AE71). Thanks again.
  6. G'Day all, I'm running an AE71 with a 3.9:1 Differential on it, I have a rear axle with a 4.3:1 Diff on it and i was wondering if there is any advantage in putting this 4.3:1 Diff into the car??? Known Advantages and Disadvantages would be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Name: I'm Stewart, The car's name is Manfred (Don't let your girl friend name your car!) Car: 1984 Toyota Corolla AE71 (originally was a KE70E with a 3K, but got a 4A-C transplant at some point in its life i'm guessing) Motor & Driveline: 4A-C Motor with a 32/36 Downdraft Weber, Also has a T50 gearbox with heavy duty clutch Suspension & Breaks: Monroe Shock Absorbers with Kings Performance Springs (Standard Height), Standard brakes Wheels & Tyres: Standard 13" Alloys with Michelin Energy Tires (175/70) Interiour: Standard Blue interior, has an Autotecnica Sports Wheel (my knees kept hitting the standard wheel), Also has a Pioneer unit and two 9" speakers, no over the top sound system. Body: Beige in colour, a few knicks and dings around the rear doors, some idiot also tried to pry the boot open with a Crow Bar :P Also equipped with CIBIE Spotlights on the front bumper Other: The car is in good condition, it's fun to drive, might go for a 4A-GE one day, also might look at a new diff (it's making that whiring sound) Update: Just Replaced the Differential with a 4.11:1 Ratio Diff (was a 3.9:1). Bit more torque all through the rev range, although it's lost a bit of explosive power in the high rev ranges. Still a better outcome.
  8. Mate, you're too right. The engine may not be that powerful, but i just installed a nice set of performance springs and shocks, and new tires are on the way, doesnt matter that it's not fast, it's still bloody quick on the curvy stuff. all the more reason why i can't wait for a 4A-GE, icing on the cake it will be.
  9. G'Day all. Thanks once again for all the posts. I have done the proper thing and written to QLD transport, unfortunately after reading my arguement and discussing the issue with me, they have concluded that i cannot install a 4A-GE. Guess i'll just have to wait until i'm on an open license. Thanks again. Gecko71.
  10. I think it's starting to become clear that the answer is no. I've sent a letter to QLD transport asking for a final Yes or No answer, see what happens i guess. Thanks to everyone who replied. Gecko71.
  11. You'd think so, but it goes into more deatil. I've already done an engine conversion (from 3K to 4A) which was perfectly legal, so it is legal for P-Platers to do engine conversions, i just want to know specifically if i can go from 4A-C to 4A-G.
  12. Mate, with all due respect, i'm trying to do this the legal way. If i didnt care, then i would of gone ahead and done it already and wouldn't have made this post. The purpose of this post is to find out if it is LEGAL for me to do it, not if i can get away with it.
  13. It's not the answer he wants, Rob. Issue is that P platers cannot drive a car with plated engine modifications. The 4A series of engines are 1600cc, and the 4AG head is a straight bolt on but....... the change of the induction/fuel system from the original (carby to EFI) would require plating. That would therefore not be acceptable. The alternative would be to fit the 4AG head with twin 40/45 Webbers (which would end up being more powerful than with the EFI anyway). The carbs & manifolds would cost more that your left nut. Qld transport need a reality check... but don't start me (and everyone else on Rolla club) on the engine modification debate.
  14. G'Day all, I have a bit of an issue. I currently own a AE71 with a 4A-C motor in it, I am a P-Plater, and i'm unsure if it is legal for me to put a 4A-GE (103kW) in an AE71. I'm asking if anyone knows for sure, whether it is legal or not for me to install a 4A-GE in my AE71 (i.e. P-PLater Friendly). Also, does anyone know if a P-Plater can drive a car with mod plates? It would be greatly Appreciated. Gecko71.
