Hrmm... After some more playing and a brief chat with one of the developers I think I might go back to the original server software and probably JWChat. The facebook bar does have a few issues, one key problem being that theres no function to add buddies which is fairly crucial for our implementation. Its also lacking group chat and a little bit of internet explorer compatibility plus a few other little quirks that should really be fixed.

Nah, just an AASA "licence" you can get on the day. Basically public liability insurance. From memory its around $50/yr, something like that.

Oh very nice! -
Good news! I FINALLY got the facebook chat bar thing working with different server software. And I can report its freaking AWESOME! Need to setup the live server and then deal with some integration issues but it looks good for release in a couple of weeks. I'll make sure I keep posting teasers :hmm:

Yes! Very much so. Bad fuel regulators make for a tuning nightmare.

We don't really have enough interest to be able to rent a track for ourselves but I go to the track with the Time Attack guys. http://www.timeattack.com.au/ Alternatively you can head to the QR organised saturday afternoon sprints. http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/main.php?menu=qre01 Both make it pretty damn easy to get on the track.

Likewise which is why on RC guests can view everything members can. I see no benefit in forcing someone to signup for an account when they have no intentions of returning. Sure it saves a bit of bandwidth but we're in the 'business' of providing information, if that informations not easily/instantly available then whats the point of providing it? As for the original idea, I had started writing a big long technical explanation but then I realised that to anyone but me and a few others its just going to be white noise. There are some things on the technical side that need consideration. Yes I will let you turn it off but it probably wont be from the front page.

Supercharged V8. The blurb is a bunch of crap written by a sensationalist moron. Still a cool car though.

It's not hard to do BUT there's a couple of issues to consider. I'll explain more when I get home. There is a solution using AJAX though if you can handle a 0.2 second delay between mousing over and seeing the data.

lol, I apologise in advance to your boss.

Yea I'm starting to think its not even worth bothering if its not like that. Going to try some other server software tonight and see if its not as touchy. Fingers crossed.

Not really adding anything... -
Theres a couple of others I might screen capture but I still have to set them up. Probably only emite, Ajaxbber I guess. And the one that doesn't work :P This one (pending what it's integration behavior would be like i.e. persistent sessions) is by far my favorite but it doesn't work. Logs in fine, but as soon as you try to send messages or the BOSH connection tries to refresh the server boots the client for sending incorrect session information. I might try to contact the author and see if I can get him to fix the offending code and recompile the javascript.

#4. iJab 0.1.7. Alright, still fairly young code so not really as polished as the others. Still works fine though. Has a cool avatar feature so I could display forum avatars in the chat software.

#3. JWChat. Just had a bit of a bitchfight to get this one working. Works well, opens individual windows which may or may not be preferable. Nice configuration options for the end user. Could be a good option. The floating window makes it very desktop like and keeps things nice and tidy. p.s. geeky space background ftw.

I've got a little test system up and running. Servers working well and integrates fine with our user database. Only major issue was people who have spaces in their name *glares*. The xmpp protocal doesn't allow for spaces but I've worked around it by replacing spaces on the chat server only with dashes. Even if there were a username conflict it would just result in one or neither being able to login. Shouldn't be possible to spoof another persons session because of the way the authentications setup. Also server side, you will need to add a user as a 'buddy' and have them approve it before you're able to talk with them. There is the provision for global chat rooms though the client I end up using will determine whether they're used or not. Also the server does store messages sent to a user who is offline and delivers them once they come back online. Should solve the issue facebook has with not delivering messages. While it is the same protocal it's not the same server side software as facebook. Client wise theres a bunch of options. I had hoped to get a facebook style bar working but that particular piece of software is buggy as hell. It will connect but for some reason the way its storing the session id isn't correct and the server disconnects it as soon as it attempts to refresh the BOSH connection. So thats a bit sucky. I will keep trying to get it working but we probably won't launch with that. I'm not sure if (I don't think) it persists connections between pages either so theres always that issue. I might post up some screenshots of the possibilities with an RC style layout and maybe demo the favorites. Most of them behave like a typical desktop messenger program, flash and make noise when you get messages etc. None of them are particularly obnoxious about it and you can turn that off anyway. I've shown Teddy a couple and he likes them, but he likes everything I show him :P hehe. Its also possible to use desktop messengers, I've tried pidgin and miranda so far but any xmpp messenger will (should) work. Beyond that all thats left to do is transfer my local testing configuration to a live server, little bit of integration and away we go. Like a lot of the RC things I've been getting done lately, turning out to be a lot simpler than I first thought.

Its probably AM cam. Easier to write 160 rather than 1600kHz. The frequency range for commercial AM broadcast in Australia is 531kHz to 1602 kHz. Whether the broadcast format is the same as Australia is another thing but I'd be guessing theres a fair chance that it'd work.

Nothing in the logs either. I guess you just forgot to hit post.

I might have to start a services section under for sale with moderator approval on topics (to keep away commercial traders). I'll let you know in the next couple of days. I would be quite happy for people to do this but the biggest problem is with commercial traders seeing individuals posting up and taking this as permission for them to do the same.

I can't find any recent threads of yours that have been deleted. What was the title?
