  1. Got the gearbox fixed. I found out that the problem was the pressure plate was to big for the bellhousing. I went back to pabs and they said that there is a difference between ke55 and ke70 boxes. I went home and looked at a ke70 box that I had in the shed and it has a much bigger bellhousing :( . So what I have done is put the 4k flywheel and clutch on the 5k and used the original ke55 box. Got it all bolted up and put the water in the radiator and oil in the motor. :y: :P . Started it up and got it running and turned it off to check water and oil, And noticed oil pouring out from between the back of the motor and the gearbox. :hmm: :) :n: :( . Checked the gearbox oil and it hadn't gone down, but the engine oil had. Going to the machine shop on monday to find out what is going on. :hmm: :hmm:
  2. The 5k flywheel would be heavier i take it. I wanted to keep it all stock, rather than mix and matching bits. The full rebuild including diss-assembling and re-building with all new parts including new oil pump, valves, pistons etc and everything machined and aligned came to about $2300, which was trade price. :P Have got the motor in and just have to add oil and water. But now have the gearbox out as it has a crack in the bellhousing, Getting it welded up and hopefully will have better luck when I put it in. What I think has happened is that the spiggot bush wasn't pushed all the way into the crank, and when I put the motor in I had it located in the dowels and just pulled the extra 3mm gap up with the bolts. And as I was doing this the gearbox was trying to press the bush in more and therefore putting pressure on it and the rest is history. :hmm:
  3. Well got my 5k motor back from the machine shop today. Fully rebuilt, bored, new pistons, oil pump, bearings, shaved head, new valves, the lot. Should have a bit more power than the old 4k. Also got a excedy heavy duty clutch kit for it. Had to get it made up, as the 5k clutches are 200mm in diameter compared to 180mm 3k and 4k's and the 5k's are 21 spline and the 4k's 19 spline. So what they did was put a 4k center in a 5k clutch. Should be putting it in this weekend if all goes well.
  4. Thanks! Will have to listen out for you soon when you drive past with your 5k motor. ;) ;) I have another 5k motor getting the works done to it, so then I can put it in my 55. It seems that both you and I have the same coloured ke55's with tinted windows and now we both will soon have 5k motors, It's just that mine is a sedan and your's is a coupe. :D
  5. My 5k motor is bored out, flat top pistons, shaved head, mild cam, port n polished, electronic ignition and I have to run ultimate petrol as it has high compression. cheers, Mark
  6. I managed to find out what my webers had in them before I got them tuned, they ran ok for me to drive down town. Was a bit to much fuel for the motor though. Chokes 32, main jet 120, emulsion tube F15 now F7, air correction 170, idle jet 45 F9. Will get other specs of linkage kit tomorrow as previously mentioned.
  7. Hi, this is what I have in my worked 5k with twin webers which brad sherriff did for me. Emulsion tubes are F7, Idle jets are 55 F8, Main jets I'm not sure on. I do have a weber workshop manual. With my redline linkage kit the instructions actually had what jets to use for a 3k and 4k standard and race engine. So I will have a look for that tomorrow and post up the specs. By the way it cost me $740 to get my webers dyno tuned, $350 was for jets.
  8. Heard Sturgey blast his air-horns as he went past my house.
  9. The motor is off to the machine shop tomorrow to get bored out, get flat top pistons and a mild cam grind and new valves etc etc.
  10. Hi, I just pulled the head of the 5k because when I bought it they told me it was seized. It has flat top pistons :y: . There was a lot of rust in the bores and around the top of the pistons so I cleaned it up and squirted some crc in the motor, but it still wouldn't budge. I then removed the sump and squirted some more crc inside and I looked at the pistons and stamped inside them reads, aisan and toyota. I gave the crankshaft a bit of a hit with a block of wood a few times to loosen the motor but nothing happened. Then I put the sump back on and was about to remove the flywheel, started to undo the bolts and then the motor turned a little. Kept on turning the motor back and forth until it loosened up. :y: :y: . Looks like I will be taking this motor to get reconditioned rather than buying a dodgey exchange engine.
  11. Yeah that's it. :y:
  12. I removed the manifolds and air injection from the motor today. And I was looking above the engine number, and casted in the block reads 1486cc which my other 5k hasn't got. :y: hope to get pics soon.
  13. Thanks guy's for all your comments :y: I pulled the rocker cover off tonight and it has hydralic lifters. I will try and get a couple of pics of it tomorrow, Cheers mark.
  14. Hi all, I have bought a secondhand 5k motor today out of a Liteace van, and I noticed that on one side of the sump there is a solenoid with a wire coming off it, also along the manifold side of the head are some small pipes that screw into the cyl head. :S So if anyone has an answer about what these two things are used for, then that would be awesome. :y: :bash: as my other 5k in my ke20 doesn't have this stuff. Is this 5k I picked up today a later or an import motor????? Cheers, Mark. 8| :y:
  15. Spotted Simon in his van. Almost didn't realise until he had driven past me and gave a little rev, then I looked and saw the green logo on the back and it clicked. :(
  16. Any more pics????????? please. :P
  17. Nice score Dan, :y: where abouts did you pick this up from? It looks similar to the old ke55 I had a few years back. :( and yeah more pics please. :P
  18. Hi guy's, well I managed to pickup another PBR brake booster and a straight rust free drivers front guard today. :D  I put the booster on this arvo and the brakes are working much better  So all I have to do now is get the new guard painted and and get a little rust cut out, tint the windows and I should be just about done. I'll post some more pics when I've completed these things. Cheers, Mark.
  19. My ke55 4k temp needle sits at 1/4 aswell. :D
  20. No worries mate, no harm done. :locked: 1166cc = 1200cc 1077cc = 1100cc. Just means you have a bigger motor then you first thought. :y: looks like a very tidy ke25 Cheers, Mark. :y:
  21. No your wrong mate, all 3k motor's are 1200cc, :locked: A 3K -H is a high compression version, hence the letter H. A 1100cc is known as just K. :y: found in ke10 rolla's. :y:
  22. The 3K motors are 1200cc. :locked:
  23. Yeah thanks mate, she's not a bad daily at all, and the interior is very neat aswell. :locked:
  24. Hey mate with your pics if you don't reduce them as much then they will look a lot bigger and better. :locked: I reduce mine buy about 50%
  25. Thanks Murd, :locked: Yeah I am usually the same with modern rims on old cars, some people don't have a clue what suits what, but these seem to go well with the body shape. Should look even better when I get the windows tinted. Thanks, Mark. :y: :y:
