dear fellow rollaclubbers. been discussing with a mate about building a shitbox rally car on a budget. we discussed options both toyota and non Toyota. we both wanted to do an engine conversion for the invaluable experience and just bit more interesting. finally we came to the conclusion sr20 into ke70 for a few reasons. these being, huge range of aftermarket parts, it's gonna involve a bit of fab work, wiring and fuel systems etc. plus it's been done enough before and there is plenty of information out there and people to give advise. now the questions I bring is how cheap does everyone think we can complete the conversion and I don't mean how long is a piece of string cause I'm not worried about losing money. I just wanna benchmark to try and beat for fun and a challenge. plan is non turbo sr20 into a ke70 or ae71. gonna run stock diff to start off with. I'm not sure if this thread makes sense so let me know. cheers Tom

I spotted a white ke10/11 from a distance in birdwood today and I reckon wagns ke20 couple cars back? I didn't go into museum cause I couldn't afford it! sucks!

my opinion on this is where do you start?! unfortunately being a corolla forum we range from ke10 to ae82 to well the ones with lots of z's in them. and unless you wanna specify one model then it's silly because fitting a 4age into a ke10 is so much different to that of fitting in a ke70 and unless we are gonna cover every model with each individual conversion then the silly questions will never end and as said about all the info is on the net just gotta search long and hard. plus just cause someone on here writes a thread on how to 13b a ke30 doesn't mean it's the best way. in conclusion I don't know if this reply made any sense and I'm not reading it again but yeah. cheers Tom

yeah altezza that's what I was thinking but my boss reckons that the cable also has something to do with modulation in the gearbox and you'll have bad problems if you don't have it? and yeah philbey I'm going manual but just wanna get it regod and home so I can fiddle with it all

ok I apologize if kick down is the wrong name for it but basically I have a ke10 with 4k and 2 speed toyoglide. problem is the way it's been set up it's still running an early carby so has a different linkage I'm suspecting a ke20? problem is I now have a 4k carby and adapting the kick down cable from the auto trans is becoming a massive hassle. now I wanna know is there a way to avoid using the cable? what exactly does it do? and say you were to put an aftermarket carb whether it be down draught or side draught how would you get the kick down to work? it's becoming such a pain in the ass I may just use it as an excuse to go manual but I kinda need to get it moving by next week. any information is greatly appreciated and sorry if my questions don't make sense cheers Tom
