  1. back to the rocker cover... masking up.... spraying base..... also painted the crank angle sensor cover...... 2nd coat of colour clear coat...
  2. just before i went to do that had to shoot off and get some stuff, but as i was driving along in my daily roller ,(that never gets attention, just abuse) i hear this nasty sound coming from the brakes, thought to my self oh dear god hear we go more dramas lol,any way quickly or should i say slowly back to work ,using the hand brake most of the way , got there with out crashing into any one,lol any way jacked up the car and took the wheel off, this is what i found... a nice gouge around the disk edge, most likely the horrible sound i was hearing, funny thing was the brakes seemed fine???? wierd,, any way pulled the caliper off and found the brake pads were practicly non exsistant!!!maybe 0.5 of a mm of pad left :lolcry: with a small stroke of luck i remembered i had a set of brand new pads that i bought for my other rolla about 3 years ago ,and i managed to find them! so was pleased at that, this is what the new pad looks like vs the stuft one,i know this is a little off topic but in the greater scheme of things the daily,is part of my build, with out it i couldnt get around lol any way after a bit of stuffing around got the bits back to gether, bleed the brakes, took it for a quick test run, and they work great ,way better than before ,the pedal is firm as,just want to cain around so i can slam on the brakes hahaha, pitty the engine is stuft :bash: any way that little drama out of the way back to work........
  3. leaving those parts, back to the rocker cover ,here started polishing the lettering... well looks alot better than it did.... then changed the spark plugs, the ones that came out wernt to bad,not sure if they were in there from factory, the ones i got were from america, iriduim ngks, the gap was set at 0.30, the site i got them off said that they were pre gapped ready to go, only thing was the old plugs had a gap of 0.36 plus not sure if thats casue they wear out or if thats what they were set at,any way ill leave them at that for the moment, got all the old masking off and cleaned up ,spark plugs done , letters polished ,ready to mask and paint...
  4. finally after all the painting and parts baked and unmasked heres what i ended up with, see what i mean there was a few bits.... loving this colour
  5. heres at 1200... had a break from that and went back to painting parts.... main pulley plenium... throttle body... oil thingy... idle air contraption (loving this matt black)
  6. after the rocker cover was sanded then had a look at the lettering, started with 400 on these ones, there were fairly smooth so didnt need to corse to start with, can see the 400 took care of the surface corosion straight away... didnt want any sludgey water geting into the spark plugs and all over the engine so went crazy with the masking lol process i used on these were 400 dry,600 wet,800 wet ,1200 wet,1500 wet here its up to 800
  7. next big misson was to clean up and paint the rocker cover, thought about it for a bit ,and was going to take it off to do it,but well i took off the nuts, it wasstuck down pretty good,so decieded to leave it on there and just mask up the engine, took a fair while to do this part, inbetween running around getting bits and pieces was a long day! was pretty dirty ,and the lettering had a bit of corosion on them , used prepsol and a scotchy, got all the old grease and dirt off,and sanded it up, found out it was made of alloy so wanted to have a go at polishing up the lettering ....
  8. once i got all the parts cleaned and ready it was into the oven , had a few bits and pieces of differnt stuff, brackets, throttle body pelium chamber, engine mounts, pipes, clip things all sorts of bits ,just off the dam motor,
  9. can't believe how many parts are on this thing, spent at least 5-6 hours cleaning and preping a few parts that i wanted to paint up, this is the idle air control valve, no idea how this thing works or what the hell its realy spose to do, but it had a bit of carbon rubbish in it ,so decided to clean it out before i gave it a bit of a spray, i used some carb cleaner ,just sprayed it in there, hope that was ok and it didnt do any damage, heaps of black goop came out and it was left pretty well cleaned up, also done the same to the throttle body thing, again abit of black carbon stuff in there but wasnt terrible, the carb cleaner and a brush got rid of it all...
  10. well closer look at the clutch and decided it was totaly rooted, can't believe i was going to atempt to use this thing!!! , had to fork out a fair bit for a new clutch, these sr20 parts arnt exactly cheap like the old 4 k stuff!, fresshhhh
  11. well heres the fly wheel ,got it machined instead of leaving it sanded, thanks for the advice on this one guys, much happyer knowing its right and since it was only 33 dollars i can't complain,
  12. holly crap what a mission, been hard at it the last 2 days ,just got home finally get 10 mintues to chill then sleep and go again, crazy stuff, any ways heres abit more of an update.
  13. haha cheers guys, kinda didnt think it was going to turn into this ,i was only realy going for a quick clean and a bit of paint ,but as things go always end up being alot more work than first thought, so yeah may take abit on this, but yeah its looking pretty now, just need it to stay that way for the engineers lol after than not to fussed, dunno how auto paint will hold up , probably fall off when gets to warm, lol aw well it looks sexy in the pics lol
  14. not so much of an update as ive been stuck with other commitments at present so the cars getting pushed to the back for a litle bit, but heres where I'm at, still working on the engine havnt done much ,just working thru things very slowly ,in the way of reassembley, polishing ,painting and general tidying of old parts ,trying to make it look respectable and refreshed, added a new thermostate and polished the thermostate housing added a new front seal added a new water pump added a new exhaust gasket and heat painted the exhuast manifold added the water pump pulley added a new sump and a magnetic oil drain plug thingo thats about it couple of shots :::::
  15. haha love a custom tank but just more hassels and more money that i havent got right now , by the way pm sent
  16. well on advice from you guys took my fly wheel into the brake shop and ended up getting it machined, dude there told me i could use it as is ,but most likey the clutch plate would end up being chewed out with uneven wear and id be pulling it back off again , so told him to go ahead and do it, fairly stoked at the price a measly 33.00 dollars ,better to be on the safe side i guess and at that price i can't complain,at least i don't have to buy a new one ;-)
  17. dude thats sexual,so jelous ,wish i was at that stage, haha congrats shes looking overrated,
  18. yip can relate there, ive been working on this for over 13-14 months ,same deal,i realy only get to put in decent hours on the weekend, other commitments during the week most of the time ,so a couple days a week ,just isnt enought time to make huge progress, can get frustrating some times , but like you said before a lil bit here and there,
  19. i think its just the case of if your doing something properly then it just takes time,to get it right, thats how i find it any way, how long you been on the silly car for now?
  20. base clear this bit looks crap ,got messy with the sealer stuff :bash: :bash: :bash: thats about it for the moment
  21. check this beast out!!!!!!! its a new trolley jack my boss got ,its completely made of alloy!!!!!!!! and it looks sick as!!! some sort of pimp my ride trolley jack!!! hahahah i love it, this thing is soooooooo light you can push it with one finger, beats the old 20 ton things you have to drag around the shop and it looks sick!!!! did i mention it looks sickkkk??? well it does  rolling on the yellow brick road, or should i say the mdf wood road lol so doors closed temp on 30 degress ,sitting there ready to spray, and i thought stuff it id paint it yellow... no not realy ,this is the etch primer, just helps the paint stick abit better to the surface,
  22. hahaha yeah he was like convinced it was a sick way to do it , :hammer:
  23. half way thru cleaning the front this section was probably the most dirty part of the hole engine and it wasnt realy that bad, even cleaned up the bottom.... another thing ive read about the sr is not to run the engine if you have dents in your sump!!! woops :bash: ,well at least i didnt have it running terribly long so can't see why it would be damaged, any way closer inspection ,the sump is stuft with a big ass dent... so another part to buy lol, heres somewhat of a surprise to find, the s13 sr20 have rather a small oil pick up and it you install a s14 oil pick up its considered an upgrade due to the size in the oil pick up opening , SURPRISE! some ones already done it on my motor!!!! so that was a bonus  here ive moved to the intake side and the top part has been cleaned and masked up.... due to my water pump being stuft ,the bearing was grinding and squealing,( i suspect the fan belt mite have been a lil to tight)had to replace it with a new item, and finally after many many many hours of cleaning and scotchy and fingers getting slamed in to sharp sticking out bits ,its all clean and ready to do something with, now pretty disapointed in my self here :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: usualy do better work than this , think i was just so tired from scrubing for 2 days, any way, i was to lazy to find some special heat paint so opted for some base coat silver ,it will probably fall off eventulay , but meh if it does the block is clean as hell any way lololol, should be enuff to get me through engineers any way, so on with the masking, was gona spray it out side ,then decided stuff it ill do it in the oven, how ever how to get the stand in the ovem???????? becasue the grating on the floor is all spaced the stand wouldnt roll over it to easy , so had to go get some mdf boards and make myself a road hahaha, seemed to work pretty good ,one foot in front of the other type of thing....
  24. hahha yip got that one thanks evan, this technique sounds the most sensible from the ones ive read , one guy was saying wack it with a hammer!!!!!!!! hahahah what a helmet,
