I'm not sure yet, are you in a hurry? As I've got to get new dampers before I can start selling stuff.
-
It's all ADM AE86 gear, one set may have either slotted solid rotors or vented rotors, not sure which rotors I'm keeping. The struts have a steel weld-on type coilover sleeve. I'll get pics soon.
-
Supras are rear wheel drive, AE92s are front wheel drive.... :no2: What's wrong with the gearbox from whatever corolla came out with the 20v?

What type of setup do you want to use Mitch? The spare pair of coilovers that I have use 200mm 8kg springs with a 3inch(?) helper spring, the other spare pair use 200mm ~7kg springs. One pair will have newish KYB AGX SW20 inserts and the other will have Koni red 86 2602 inserts. Both have hubs, caliper brackets, calipers and rotors, I also have on pair of AE86 power steering arms and AJPS RCAs. Both pairs of coilovers have scratches, fades, worn paint etc from normal road use, nothing bad though. I don't mind separating stuff as well, if I were to make a for sale thread I would list everything separate with the option to buy the complete coilover setup. The only problem is that I need to get another pair of inserts before I can finish the ones that are going into the brown KE70. Which will require me to save some money.

I put the T3 camber plates, upper spring seats and Eibach 4.9kg springs in the blue car.... holy buttface 4.9kg is nice to drive on! Though now I've got like 3 sets of coilovers, I think I need to sell some stuff. More pics soon!

They seemed to ride better than the KYB AGXs that are in my blue KE70. I think the brown car will end up with either Koni Sport or Bilstein B6 dampers, depends on what I can get for whatever price.

Turns out that the gland nut looking thing on to of the insert was not a gland nut. This is what I thought was the gland nut: But then I flipped the coilover upside down to find this: It's a shitty picture but that's an in-hex bolt in the bottom of the strut. When I undid the bolt on the bottom of the strut I could get the insert out, so there's nothing holding it in at the top. The inserts are Koni reds p/n: 86 2602. Which when I searched the part number turned out to be out of an Audi or something. The inserts are about 520mm extended and 330mm compressed, a pretty good size. Tomorrow I'll put the coilovers into the blue car with the new 4.9kg/mm Eibach springs to see how it works out.

I've used a chisel and hammer before to get my old shitty gland nuts off, but I had new ones to replace them so it was okay. Lol. I'm going to get a angle grinder tool this afternoon so I can get the gland nut out. It's the only way to do it because the nut sits inside the tube a little bit and I can't grab it with anything. And thanks for the link Rob, but what do you mean by T6? This is the tool:
-
I would normally use multigrips or a vice or whatever but the gland nut sits down inside the strut tube by a few millimeters and there is no way to get a grip on it other than using that tool or one of those universal disc changing tools for an angle grinder. Which is probably what I will use as they are cheap, but really flimsy. I'll get pics soon, threads are better with pics!

I'm also interested in making fibreglass panels, do you know how to do it? I remember seeing TRD KE70(I think?) using fibreglass panels on the rally car, I wonder if he still has the molds... EDIT: I just checked TRD's rides thread and I don't think it was him, must have been someone else. I also remember reading that the Grid Vs weren't all that heavy, can't remember where I read it though, I think it was on a MX5 forum or something.

That's why I'm trying to move the top of the strut back instead of moving the wheel forward. I just thought I would try and get the caster back that is usually lost when putting AE86 camber plates into a KE70/AE71, it may or may not work out but I will find out later on. So I brought the coilovers back to my parents house to get them apart, I still need this tool to get the gland nut out: Then I will take some measurements and see what insert I can use in the strut.

Okay I did some research, it turns out you are right Luke. The AE86 strut top bolt pattern is the same as KE70, but the AE86 strut tops push the shock shaft forward and reduces caster, whereas using the KE70 strut top pushes the shock shaft back and adds caster. I thought I had noticed the AE86 strut tops in an AE86 sat to the rear of the strut tower, and this is what gave me the idea that they are a different strut pattern, as AE86 strut tops sit towards the front of the strut tower in a KE70. But it turns out that AE86 strut tops also sit towards the front of the strut tower in an AE86 as well. Either way when I swap the AE86 camber plates from left to right and re-drill the inner holes in the KE70 strut tower I will end up increasing the caster, which is good. OR I could take the bolts and lower plate out of the upper plate in the AE86 camber plate and flip the upper plate over than bolt it all back together, and this would have the same effect(I think? See the last pic for a reference). This is an AE86 strut top in my blue KE70 Notice the shock shaft is positioned more towards the front of the car. This is a standard KE70 strut top sitting on top of an AE86 strut top in a KE70: The bolts between the strut top are lined up as best as I could, and you can see that the Ke70 strut top would position the shock shaft further back. And this is what gave me the idea that they were flipped, this is a right side AE86 camber plate upside down on top of a left side KE70 strut top. Notice the bolts line up perfectly, the nuts are actually locking both the bolts from the camber plate and strut top together.

They are slightly different, I'll get picks in a sec.

I like the Rotas, if only genuine TE37v's were affordable... Hey are you any good with photoshop? Throw some d's on that bitch! ...I mean photoshop some wheels onto your car.

I've heard that most are illegal, though I've also heard that the spring seats can be locked/welded in place and this will allow the coilovers to be engineered. Which would detract from the purpose of having adjustable coilovers. Also it doesn't seem right that adjustable suspension would be illegal, what about airbags or torsion bar suspension? Those are legal? The RTA and TMR are silly. I'll give the authorities a call one day soon to see if I can get a definite answer. By the way what are your engine plans Jake? Still going for something crazy?
-
Yeah I will get it rego'd eventually, but I want to get it finished before I rego it. Otherwise I'll pay for rego and just have it sitting there doing nothing while I do the conversion, which will probably take months lol.
-
That's a good point Rob, though I want to get everything engineered so I can drive it like that on the road and not have to worry about defects/void insurance etc. So all the parts will go in, then it'll be enginneered and then rego. But if there are parts in it that won't pass engineering then I'll just have to ditch those parts. I'll have to look into it though. Nah no rego Spencer, it doesn't need it anyway because it won't be going anywhere for a while. And if I do have to take it places it will be on an unregistered vehicle permit, it's pretty pricey moving it that way though.

Haha I know right! I've already spent easily over a thousand dollars on it and I've only had it for a week :blinks: So progress is going to be a bit slow as I'm a uni student and that means I'm poor. But I'm on holidays at the moment and I'm working a fair bit so I should have some moolah to spend. Soon I'm going to install my gauges, new rack ends, T3 steering arms, T3 RCAs, Eibach springs, HEL braided brake lines and T3 camber plates. With the camber plates I'm going to re-drill the inner hole in the strut tower, as the AE86 camber plates have a different bolt pattern to the KE70 strut tower(it seems to the KE70 strut top bolt pattern is just a flipped version of the AE86 strut top bolt pattern), and this will allow me to fit the camber plates to the correct side, which won't effect the caster like it does when people put the camber plates in the wrong sides. And then I'll be able to put the strut brace on the right way aswell. Stay tuned RC.

What's under the bonnet? :hmm:

Thanks man, I was lucky to get it, if I didn't message Luke when I did someone else who was coming up from Byron Bay with a trailer would have bought it. Was that anyone on here by the way? Do I know you Mr Byron Bay Man? Are you the guy with the 2 white *E7*s in Byron Hills? Totally. Breaker bars are what's up, I have this 650mm one that makes undoing bolts so so easy. Needs more poo brown IMO lol.

Also keen. Lol at the title description btw.

Lol! That's my housemate's stupid cat, it was running around on the roof of the car while I had the boot open, and it slipped down the back windscreen and face-planted into the open bootlid which then slammed closed as the cat tumbled across it and fell on the ground. It somehow landed on it's feet though, so I guess it's not completely uncoordinated.

This afternoon when I got home I pulled the coilovers out to check them out: The coilovers have around 7-8kg springs, unknown inserts(I haven't got the right tools to get the insert out at the moment), Otomoto(?) weld-on sleeves, D2 camber plates, unknown brand RCAs and slotted rotors yay! Next week I'm going to take the coilovers back to my parents house to try and get the inserts out so I can take some measurements of the strut tube and also find out what type of insert they are.
