I have an ea82 seca and I'm wondering if its possible to convert to awd, I see the aus rally awd corolla that isn't avail to public. Do the awds still have the east west engine setup? The awds are very rare to see and are mostly those crappy wagons. Do the ae82s have the body to support an awd gearbox with the shaft and rear diff? Has anyone done anything like this before?

 

I see a place for a shaft on the inside, but not really under the car. Does anyone have any photos of the awd driveline to share?

The Turtle was the only AWD Corolla released in Oz. You ain't gunna find an AWD AE82.

 

You can buy the TRD rally Corolla's, a guy in QLD has one. You just need VERY deep pockets.

 

The lump in the tranny tunnel is to house the exhaust and for structural strength, not for a tail shaft.

 

Unless you're a fabricator of the higher order, it'd cost..... well, a lot.

Well i am a biolermaker by trade and my father is a mechanical engineer, but the gearbox/diff will cost to much alone.

A manual conversion seems easy then an awd conversion.

 

The center diff is going to be integrated into the gearbox...so no chance of doing that unless there was a manual AWD gearbox to suit the application.

It wasn't brand new, it was pre loved, and I'd say in the six figure range.

I have a Tercel. Its selectable 4wd. It rocks. :D

Pretty sure there never was an AWD ZZE sold here, but there definitely are ones overseas. That being said, the Ae10x also had an AWD sedan variant, not sure about the 11x and 9x (apart from the 95), but they are very rare here.

 

To the OP, the Group N-P rally Corollas use the running gear from a GT-FOUR Celica, nothing Corolla about them (including the 3SGTE engine), so a lot of custom work is required

Body = AE82

Drivetrain = AE95

 

I think one way to make it easier to figure out what needs doing would have to get both an AE95 and AE92 up on hoists and take pics and measurements of the undersides of both cars. That way you'll get a better idea of what the AE82 needs to be modified.

 

But, like everbody else has said, its a waste of time and money. But on the other side of it, its left field, waaaaay left field.

GTiRs are dogs through corners (very front-heavy), gearboxes are quite weak, imported and turbo so insurance is a nightmare.....

And a custom AWD AE82 would be much easier to insure wouldnt it....
