mattress Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 KE11 restorer, mazda make a 14' steelie which came out on mazda E1600 E1800 and E2000 vans from the mid 70's to the early 80's. They came out in 13' 14' and 15' 110pcd so you may have to do a little searching. I believe the rims look decent painted up and wont require a hub cap. Also, if your gonna fit mazda rims take Felix's advice and file out the inner hub, they are a real pain to get off.... Quote
Felix Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 How wide are those mazda van rims? I would think they are too narrow to properly fit decent performance tyres. Quote
ke11restorer Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 I thought the Van wheels only came in 15" and they were on the front which meant that 4" of wideeee goodness :y: Quote
Felix Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 They look pretty narrow to me. You wouldn't be able to put much rubber on them without the tyres rubbing on the struts, as they don't seem to have much offset. I guess you could run spacers (illegal) or get the centers cut out and welded into wider rims. Pic I found of them below: Quote
jamesrolla Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 igot use to getting the block buster out when i wanted to change the front wheels i ran rx4 steelies on my car before going back to stock wheels with hub caps, couldnt find anything that looked quite right or anything like the stock ones in 13" except some austin 1800 hub caps that i now have but the only problem is that they go onto the wheel by clipping onto the innder ring and not by the actual rim itself, and my mazda wheels didnt have the inner ring so that was the end of that if anyone finds suitable hubcaps, please tell me i have tried, datsun 1600, escort, datsun sunny, austin 1800, would like mazda rotary caps but they are fetching to much latley Quote
kickn5k Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 iam still waiting for the swaybar to arrive so when its in ill post the change if any. stu. Quote
mattress Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Yes the van rims are 4.5' wide. My brother had two widened for $60 each. He runs 225 semi slicks on them for drag racing his 12AT mazda 1300 wagon... KE11 restorer i thought they came in 15' only as well. Recently i was at my mates work and 2 of their vans were early mazdas. One had 13' front runners and the other had 14'. While i was at the wrecker picking up my 15's i spotted a van there with 14's on it..... Quote
ke11restorer Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 I'll have to scope it out. Cheers Quote
Matmobile Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 Anybody know if you can change the box steering in a ke10 to rack with a straight swap? Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 hell no...... I will be doing this swap someday. Quote
kickn5k Posted May 20, 2007 Report Posted May 20, 2007 My sway bar has arrived and booked to be fitted tomorrow arvo. So i`ll post its change when i have a drive either tomoz or tuesday. stu. Quote
jamesrolla Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I'm gunna have a go at putting the rack into the k11 when i put the new motor in, went and looked at a ke11 with a 20valve and he has a ke70 rack and i mesured up a ke70 x member to a ke20 emember and the ke70 on is only about 1 to 1 1/2 " longer and I'm going to use the ke20 xmember with ke20 lcas and ke20 struts, have had a bit of a play around with datsun 1600 struts and with the ke20 strut top fitted the will bolt straight ontot he stock ke20 knuckle so that means 240k struts will fit in and they ahve massive brakes, will have to look into it though just a matter of playing around Quote
robj Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 James, it's nice idea to put in a R and P in an old car. first of all, I don't clame to be a guru of suspension/ steering. But from what I understand, it isn't just the x member width you need to consider. you'll need to shorten the rack a fair bit, as the KE20 LCA are long, resulting in a short distance (approx 51cm) between the inner pivot points of the LCA. AND the rack length will need to be slightly shorter than this again to elliminate bumpsteer (assuming you are using steering knuckles which are going to give you some ackerman). From a few sources I've talked it , and my own thoughts on it, it is no small project. I don't understand all the imaginery lines and centres invoved with steering and suspension. I recon when it is done properly, it would be a great thing. Keen to see this KE11 with a rack in it. PM me if possible, love to see it. Cheers, robj Quote
jamesrolla Posted May 24, 2007 Report Posted May 24, 2007 from what ive worked out, if i use sigma lcas it should nearly equal it out as to length, will have a bit of a lay with it anyway, then ive just gotta work out the coloumn not my car but it does club days etc, mate of my dads has it, fast little NA car, has a t series and all with trd 2 way, discs all round, coilovers etc looks the goods Quote
