Yea I think it would be more easy and cost effective if I just found a one in good condition.

 

to anyone that may be able to help the pics are in the last post on pg 5.

 

Just a few questions:

 

The block shouldnt have anything wrong with it would it?

The heads are alloy and thats why they wear out?

Can I use different heads on it? eg 3K-H?

And how do I clean the top of the block and the pistons? How do I wipe them? Do I just use a cloth and some cleaning agent or just scrape everything?

3K-H run a higher compression ratio so you can use them and you will get a bit more go power.

 

Also I think the 3K-H has larger jets in carby. Ill have to look in my parts manual but just in case grab the carby also..lol

Quick update: Car is not for sale anymore. Had a few people interested but never worked out on there halve.

 

Year 12 is going pretty well so I'm going to try and make some time every weekend to work on the front end.

 

I’m not touching the interior or anything. It’s totally overrated and is complete from A to Z.

 

Body wise I'm not really fust at the moment.

 

What I'm really going to focus on is getting this baby up and running.

 

Not going to do a custom engine conversion or anything extreme like that, but simply going to find a 4K/5K and dress it up with a few bits and pieces.

 

And here is where it sits...

 

Hopefully start striping the front end down this weekend. If not then on the Easter long weekend.

Plastic trims, grill, vents and taillights are off as I am getting them restored and plastic welded.

So I got this far yesterday.

 

 

 

As expected, I found no structural rust, just surface rust.

It had sat for 20 years under cover so it has sweet F all rust, which I think anyone would be happy with that.

 

 

don't have an engine crane at the farm so just stripping the engine down and pulling it out the hard way. (its no good so just throwing it away.)

 

 

Once the engine is out, going to go over the engine bay with rust converter and spray all the front end steering components black.

Didnt get a chance to work on it this weekend but over the easter long weekend I'm going to strip the rest of the front end down, prep it up, rust converter to get rid of the surface rust, prime it and spray the engine bay black.

Got me a new RUNNING engine guys!!! heheh its just a stock 4K-C. But I'm gonna fix it up a bit. Make it look a million bucks :hmm:

 

Next weekend get the old engine out, prep up the engine bay, rust convert it and primer it and then paint it black.

Once thats done ill fix up the engine a bit and chuck it in.

 

I also got a 5speed gearbox from a KE70. Would I have to modify the trans tunnel to make the shifter fit or is it the same as the stock KE25 four speed?

If yes I'm just gonna leave the four speed in.

 

Any suggestions on what I should do before the engine goes in?

I think that the shifter point on a KE70 K50 sits further back, nearer to the tailshaft entry, than a KE55 K50, so you may have problems with shifter position lining up

its easy enough to extend the shifter hole and then plate it up. well worth it for a 5th gear IMO.

Or do what I did with my KE36 and get a 5 Speed gearbox extension housing from a KE55 and swap it over :hmm:

The KE25 just going to be a Sunday driver you know what I mean.

 

Well anyway, I bought some rust converter, wd40, wax and grease remover and some acrylic primer.

 

What I want to do is clean up the front end a bit.

 

As you can see in the photo below it has a fair bit of surface rust on all the components.

 

What I haven’t got my head around is if I have the right primer. The guy at SuperCheap said I should use acrylic primer as I will be painting over acrylic.

 

But if I rust convert most of the area, wont it just be bare-metal underneath. Would I then need to etch primer it as etch primer is for bare-metal surfaces?

 

Also can I de-grease the steering box or is it meant to be greasy?

 

Also where can I get new bolts for the guards and front apron? I have some spares but a couple of the old ones broke so I have to get the studs out.
