then you get into the debate of power to weight,

zippy cars like ours shoot off so quick by the time some of the 8's reel you in, dinner is served

cause after that traction issues from so much power

did i open a can of worms? Haha

1UZs are plenty affordable, the later ones came with VVTi and are awesomely good for their size.

Yep, i'd sooner the 1uz over the 1j or what ever the twin turbo 6 banger is in the soarer/supra. But when you think of it the 1uz isn't as techno advanced as the 4's (or at least the last time i read up on it)

But when you start throwing in fly by wire (electronic throttle), spark control, injection control, vvti, variable vane turbos. All that monster torque really starts being controlled. And then throw in the control on the brakes yadda yadda you also get something with incredible turn-in response. EG that Porsche SUV thing, when you turn into a corner the inside rear brake is used to help the bus turn reducing understeer.

But from what from i've read on the LS1 its not a bad motor on its own right.

Damn it when am i going to get my hobby lathe :bash:

the J series of motors are quite decent though.

ive been reading up on them alot lately (in my quest to buy a chaser, anyone wanna buy a s15?). The later model 1j, single turbo, vvti (continuously variable, not on/off like many), and it being over square gives it that rev happy characteristic.

not to mention the sound, jeez the J engines sound good.

1uz is 87.5 mm and stroke of 82.5 mm, so over square as well. giving it the same rev happy characteristic.

but the 1uz is a 4L, and the J is only a 2.5 (or 3L for the 2j). can't realllly compare them.

ive just read up on ferrari donks...yeah whole other leage.

I'm serious, it looks like this (but still in the donor car):

Good for 1200hp with a freshen up, valve springs and turbos.

Its kinda pointless arguing about it really. There's nothing amazing about either side, its all a trade off. Want capacity? live with the weight. Want lightness? live with the low capacity. Throw engine loyalty out the door if you really want to win. Analyse what you need to win and use that.

The WTAC results are interesting though, two turbo 4cyls followed by a rotary, two more turbo 4s, straight 6, turbo 4, rotary, V6, turbo 4. More than half the Top 10 is turbo 4cyl. The fastest V8 that's been at the event was 6 seconds slower than the 10th position 4cyl (I noticed they didn't come back this year).

But that just means they suck (at the moment) at outright one lap circuit speed. The distribution would be completely different at a drag meet or speed trial event.

I love the engine to bits, but I don't have anything to put it into. The Silvias almost track ready again so I don't really want to f@$k that up. Glorious sounding engine though, I caught my father starting it and revving it one weekend :P

I thought about buying a cheap auto NA 300ZX and building him a retirement car but I haven't got enough dosh to do that at the moment. I need to get rid of the car though because I need the space for a trailer so I might just strip the engine and transmission and store it for later.
