August 28, 200719 yr comment_194316 I was thinkin to my self.....I'm about to waste (well not waste) spend shall i say......300ish on a fourage ....when i could pick up a almost NEW barra motor for around 500..... My question is....has anyone done it.....or know someone who has a similar idea?? comments more than welcome :D scotty~~ Report
August 28, 200719 yr comment_194317 barra motor is the ford 6 right ? Well for starters its a big straight six, Aint going to fit unless you find a massive shoe horn and i doubt it will be legal in a Corolla. If you were going to do that id go the whole way and pinch an engine from a F6 typhoon, 270kw and 550nm or torque i think. don't know of any other barra's ? Edited August 28, 200719 yr by AE70 Report
August 28, 200719 yr comment_194320 closest ive seen is scotts old XF powered rolla. what are you intending to do with it? it would be a heavy old thing that would pretty much only be good for burnouts, and drags with some work. Report

August 28, 200719 yr comment_194348 its not that it weighs more that will be your issue. its that the length of your motor vs the engine bay will likely shift your centre of mass quite a way forward. Edited August 28, 200719 yr by philbey Report
August 28, 200719 yr comment_194356 It's not just the length you have to worry about, it's the height of the barra as well. The Ford 6 is a lot taller than the old "K". You may have to cut a huge hole in the bonnet Report
August 28, 200719 yr comment_194375 if you absolutely have to use a 6 cylinder, and it has to be under 2.6 litres, get a BMW all alloy 2.5. ...but i wouldn't be planning a conversion based on certain bargain engines you can pick up - there is heaps more involved. August 29, 200719 yr comment_194453 there was an old toyota six that is 2600. it was in the old crowns and could be made to go fairly hard......but is it worth it? cheers brian Report
August 29, 200719 yr comment_194471 there was an old toyota six that is 2600. it was in the old crowns and could be made to go fairly hard......but is it worth it? cheers brian That'd be the old 4M. Basically worthless unless you REALLY want to spend money on it, then there are heaps of better and more practical options. The M-series are renowned for their strength, potential, huge-ass size and supertanker-like weight. The first two are desirable characteristics, the last two definitely aren't. If you were sticking something in an old MkII or Crown and wanted something authentic, then it might be the go (then again it should have the 4M in there already anyway), but anything newer and there's no point. Inline 6 and under 2.6L, the 1G-series is probably your best bet - been done before, smaller and lighter than the M-series, plenty of aftermarket support for it, plenty of potential when turbo-ed (200-odd kw at the wheels), modern, reliable etc etc Report
August 29, 200719 yr comment_194474 1gs are the butt of a few jokes. What about a 1jzge? They go really well atmo, and not too expensive either. Report
