progressed to 20 or 25 genuine contenders

I dunno about progressed but anyway. I feel you might as well roll the dice a few times, it'll yield better predictions. The race is too long and variable to predict a winner. That said I would like to see Seton finally win one.... Hes an old Nissan boy so I feel comfortable barracking for him.

Well the richards/winterbottom car has pole, and is looking quite good.

For the record, my dark horse pick is the 17 jim beam car, very quick, right from the get go.

Like most people, I would love to see Seton get his first win. However I know it will never happen. If its a close knit finish with numerous cars battling to the finish line, Seton will easily get pushed aside. I've seen it all too often where the regular racers have more determination/experience to get past him and almost make it look easy.

I just don't think Seton has what it takes to get out infront of the pack and win by a decent margin.

On another note, I would love to see Paul Morris, Rick Kelly and Max Wilson retire with mechanical falure on lap one. I cannot stand them.

Hopefully Lowndes, Ingall or Murphy win. I'm not really a Holden or Ford man....I barrack for the drivers I like. After all, not much of the actual car is Holden or Ford anyway.

How I wish all three pile into each other at the start

FPR, HSV Toll, HRT or 888. I considered FPR the dark horse before qualifying! I think, however, HRT have the fastest car. It looked like Skaife freaked out on the last sector, losing the time to Frosty. If Skaife drives well tomorrow, HRT should have it, but he'll have to have an eye out for the other boys.

888 seem right off the pace, but we know that they have the best tyre wear. HSV... I'm not so sure. I think Garth Tander is developing sort-of an attitude, and considering that no matter where he finishes he's still going to be the same points margin away from Rick, I think he might throw it away.

Seton has absolutely no chance. Very slow for the car's performance potential, plus the penalty., while Murphy won't win but look out for a surprise podium. That car is at the top of it's potential curve.

I'd love to see Holdsworth/Canto win.

Race is on in a matter of hours!

What an awesome finish! Would have liked to see 17 on the top spot of the podium, but they did well in trying conditions.

Up the fords!

All I can say is GO THE FORDS

Great race, great finish, great result!

Seton was the highest placed HRT/HSVDT car, good for him!

Yes it would have been good to see the 17 on the top step, but 3rd is great.

I do feel sorry for the super cheap car, out before it began! And for jason bright, the team should never have changed tyres!

Another year, another great race...

It was good, most definitely. Rain makes a race. Frosty lost it at the chase! Great race from Johnston. Flawless from Lowndes and Whincup once more.

Jolly good show!

What a race! Lowndes and Whincup do it again. I thought it was quite an exciting race, especially the last 20 laps. Anyone could of won. I agree with you kangaroosa, support the drivers not the cars as they are pretty much identical now anyway. Anyway, it was a great race and I was on the edge of my seat thats for sure.

The rule is its the lead car on the previous lap. What if every single car crashed when it was red flagged? Who would have won then? Caws no one would have received the red flag at the start finish line.

V8 Super taxis have had their day, its time for a new formula caws quite frankly this is f@$ken boring! Going by the success of the Group C Historic touring cars theres certainly a growing interest in the old Group A/C etc formula. Theres a number of Nissans making a homecoming from other nations to Australian owners specifically to compete in this category.

For your viewing pleaure:

R31 vs Army Reserve falcon. listen to that RB20 scream!!

p.s Long live the GTR! I wanna see the R36 come whoops some bogan arse!

I believe i asked about this bathurst, not the bathursts that had 6 genuine contenders, and 60 mobile chicanes!

Although it was good to see the good ole days with various makes and models, but in this day and age racing has progressed to 20 or 25 genuine contenders, and made things more interesting and more safer.

Discuss...

I was thinking about this topic while watching Bathurst on Sunday (excellent result BTW - good to see Lowndes do it two years in a row). While I'm not a big fan of the V8's themselves, it does provide good competition. It's not like a single car can dominate too easily, unless every other team has unreliable cars. I would however like to see a cheaper, more accessible, more relevant category. Especially since none of the cars drivetrain is common with the road cars.

What about V6 Supercars? All cars could run 3.5L 24-valve V6's, in either RWD or FWD. This would mean that Holden, Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi could all run vehicles. Mitsubishi would have to destroke the 380 V6 back to the Magna's 3.5L capacity (all the parts are easily available), and Holden would have to drop down to 3.5L from 3.6L (again, shouldn't be a big issue). The engines could be run in a fairly high state of tune, though probably not to the extreme of the V8 Supercars, as it would be good to see costs come down. Aim for something like 350hp (at the engine) instead of the current 600-650hp of the V8's. It would also be good to see manufacturers using gearboxes available on production models. However as the Aurion is 6-speed auto only, this might prove too difficult.
