Engine go bang 11:1 compression plus 8psi is certain to fail. don't bother. Not without low comp pistons anyhow. Report
October 27, 200718 yr comment_205556 Tuning....If it is tuned well, and driven with respect, it will last Report
October 27, 200718 yr Author comment_205559 yeah we have very high compression in all our cylinders. so i didnt think it wold be possible without some sort of internal work being done. Report
October 27, 200718 yr comment_205568 WHat the point in turboing your car if you gonna treat it nicely, Lower the compression and run 14psi Report
October 28, 200718 yr comment_205594 Holden V8 LS1 engines have 10.5 c/r and when they turbo them and run 8psi they seem to last well and put out 400+rwkw and becasue of the high c/r they have alot better throttle response and torque. Just make sure you have an excellent aftermarket EMS and get it tuned spot on. Report

Just make sure you have an excellent aftermarket EMS and get it tuned spot on. The only reason that people boost LS1s stock is because they don't have the cash to rebuild a v8 beforehand. Sure you get more power but something will go bang. They don't have 10.5:1 either, its 10:1-10.1:1. Report

October 28, 200718 yr comment_205599 new turbo audis/vw have high compression - its all about the tune. Not that high. What motors are you talking about, the new TSI turbos are 9.6:1 and they use a variable lift and valve timing system to lower virtual compression also. Not options on an ae111. Report

It is a bit of a high c/r to start with but if theyre keen on doing it go for it. I personally would run 6spi max until you can afford some 9.0 forged pistons. Report
October 28, 200718 yr comment_205622 The only reason the ls1s survive is because they have an extensive and brilliant knock sensor setup factory fitted, which prevents any damage to the motor before it even happens. I personally wouldnt do it, i think it would be possible to tune it so it doesnt ping, but at the same time by running so little timing advance you would be removing most of the power benefit anyway. October 28, 200718 yr comment_205727 Blitz do a turbo kit for the AE111 20v using a K3-330R turbo. Not sure on maximum boost levels, but it's intended as a bolt on kit, which indicates no change to the standard compression ratio. Report

Not to mention the larger crank and rods and heavier mains, Bit of a stupid comparison. Report
October 29, 200718 yr comment_205750 if you're that worried about the compression issue, why not simply have a thicker head gasket made up, from metal of course, there really is no need to go swapping pistons with such a low boost pressure, and as we all know, the GE bottom end is pretty damn solid in the first place! October 29, 200718 yr comment_205771 blacktop has piss weak rods. if i was you id just keep it na. and if i wanted turbo get urself gze rods and low comp pistons for the 20v. then you will be fine. Report
